It's a stub wayland compositor to run Xwayland in it
Xwayland is still a wayland client and needs something to run inside, this xwayback is just the basic bitch compositor for that to essentially replace xorg with xwayback+xwayland instead and then you can run your favorite X DE inside this instead of xorg directly.

Clearly the developer believes that maintaining a minimal compositor to run the actively developed and maintained xwayland is superior (either out of a false political dogma, or genuine technical belief) to running what is admittedly a memefork(it may not be, but that's what it looks like right now) that has yet to prove itself.

This same tranny literally admitted he rejects Xlibre for political reasons.
I'll admit metux is terrible at communication and PR but I genuinely have faith in this project. It's something that needed to be done for a while, and going by the issues/pull requests on it's repo it's getting good support.

I'm aware of that and that's why I mentioned political dogma but there might additionally be genuine technical belief that Xwayland will continue getting more and better maintenance than xorg, xenocara, xlibre or any other potential fork. Two reasons can compound, they are not exclusive.

Anyways, I hope Xlibre is a success but that's a long way to go before we see it.

There are no sides anon, just individual beliefs. Do you want me to die on a hill defending wayland or endorse Xlibre unconditionally when it hasn't even proven itself? That's retarded.

But regardless,
>why anyone would want to use this
It's lightweight, probably would be single digit kloc of C code by the time it's done, containing.
And because there isn't a canonical "Wayland" like there was xorg for x11. KDE has their own, GNOME has their own, so a small wayland compositor to run Xwayland exclusively makes a lot of sense to me.

It's not for your PC obviously.
Not every PC is a top of the line gaming rig using an HDR TV using exclusively hardware from this year. Most PCs aren't, and most people who use Linux like it exclusively for its support of older hardware.

Those are the people who use X11 the most.

It’s because some of the few commercially used software (like kicad) gave the wayland the middle finger.
Waylanders don’t know what to do when it involves real software.
Mainly, they just wanted to promulgate their horribly written windows-like gnome environment…
Which I never really see or use that much. Twm and Athena widgets are fine for me.
And they should be for you too.

Xlibre is a copy of xorg which is a copy of XFree86, which is a copy of the MIT/Xopen original.

You seem to think Xlibre started with an empty repo, and has started to re-implement X from scratch with
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
/* Todo: someone put X Windows implementation here */

I strongly encourage you to look at how software works before posting again.

>everything seems fine at first
> Picture in Picture windows don't stay on top
> video starts flickering in fullscreen because of poor VRR implementation
> no custom resolutions
> lower performance in certain applications
> clipboard doesn't always work properly.

I don't have any major love for x11, but this shit will drive you nuts , also tearing is fixable by turning on TearFree in the config or using a compositor.

And heres the kicker, Xorg's xserver has been in a maintenance like state since ~2013, no new major feature work has been done. fractional scaling , hdr ect all can be implemented if the work is done, hence the fork. It could've all been done a decade ago, but instead we've had to wait for gayland and all of its problems, just because the xserver's spaghetti code hurts the freedesktop people's feelings. It's such a god damn waste of everybody's time.

Kind of hard to ignore something that actively harms everyone involved in FOSS. I don't agree with Lunduke's sensationalism either. But this is something I've stood for before grifters like him took it up. Redhat acts like a shadow Microsoft for Linux, and everything wrong with the Linux desktop can be traced back to them in some way.

I did not sanction the reason, nor did I claim it was better, only for the particular usecase the maintainer envisions this to be useful, it is.

The contribution is that everything is Wayland based and you can use normal Wayland GPU drivers and expect everything to work. Xlibre already broke the ABI so good luck running that shit on Nvidia.

Also - not having a project driven by politics helps a lot since it attracts actual programmers and not fix-the-readme nocoder chuds (Sneedacity etc)

no, the point of using x11 is to avoid the latency issues and other weird edge case shit with wayland drivers. otherwise xwayland on the de misses the point. wayland also sucks on nvidia. you've gone absolutely mask off with this post as a wayland shill so I'll stop here.
and I'll ignore the absolutely braindead argument you followed with. anyone who can't spot the blatant contradiction at first glance deserves to stay in the dark.

Moving the goalposts. Wayland also has explicit sync support so latency in sensitive applications is a nonissue.
>other weird edge cases
>wayland sucks on nvidia
Now you're talking out of your ass.

Nta but you literally shitting FUD:
The project "broke" the ABI once and all it did is just to require to recompile the drivers without any precautions needed, regarding nvidia proprietary drivers they made exceptions to keep them working as-is.

Imagine claiming that a project that is marked as experimental and that doesn't even have a build is "working.

It is all lies with you guys.
At this point i think that you jerk off to the thought of lying someone straight into the face:
>hahaha, yes, i am lying, what are you gonna do about that? :^)
