like for example a fixed AP and a fixed station. the signal strength would be constant between them typically, but if something moves roughly between them, that strength could go down or fluctuate
more advanced setups can even figure out the shape of rooms or objects in them using radio/wifi signals, but just as a motion detector this would not even require different hardware to what is in consumer devices already
