I want to get into linux system admining. What are some projects that would be worth by while?
>>105760623 (OP)>Unemployable Tech Workers GeneralBeing unemployable is the direct consequence of mass jeet import. Elon the Betrayer fights tooth and nail to keep them here. The rich tech bros are the poor tech bros' biggest predators.
I hate this.
I pray to God for guidance on if I should change my career path and don't seem to get an answer.
I want to be a semi-functional member of society at the very least.
Woke up at 7pm today, went to costco right before it was about to close (when the store is empty), then went to get myself some coffee.
Now I'm going to grill myself a steak and wait an hour or two before going to the gym.
God I fucking love being unemployed.
>Wake up >Take ~1/4 of edible (so like 2.5mg THC) >Watch Futurama while eating breakfast >Pass out on the couch for 7 hours >Wake up incredibly thirsty Not my most productive day. Evidently I needed some sleep though.
>>105760986holy based
>>105760986Damn I want to be unemployed again
I'd quit, but I need to stick it out another 6 months to keep this sign on bonus and get my stocks
Is it worth pursuing the CCNA certification? I've taken the practice exam and got 75% of it correct, I could probably study from a book and get the rest of it to pass, but is it an actually desirable cert now? What about CCNP?
>>105760623 (OP)Finally got the offer letter bros. Hunting since January. The interview went on for a whopping 2 months. You're going to make it bros.
>going over a recorded video interview I have to send
>zero anxiety
>look and sound like a giga autist the entire time
fuck it we ball
>>105760790Deploy a kubernetes cluster on premise and deploy an app to it.
>>105761680I see you're on step 17 of the application process.
>>105760986how do you manage to coast by like that while being unemployed? in my experience i'm always piss broke because of bills and insurance and shit
>>105762671if you rent a small apartment unemployment will easily pay all your expenses
>>105762671NTA, I live with my mum. I'm a leech and I want to change but people (justifiably) don't want to hire a neet. But I also don't go out and spend money like that guy does, I try to keep my expenses as low as possible.
warehouse never replied to my job app
>>105764560>You don't have a masters in loading boxes into trucks? >What about forklifting? Surely you have 5 years experience in this specific model of forklift right?>You're just not going to cut it in this market like that.>What? "No experience needed"? Where?>Oh, haha, silly me. That's supposed to be "No, experience needed!">"The Simpsons"? Sorry, I don't watch cartoons.
I am so sick of this gay economy where there's supposedly a labor shortage in every field yet I can't get hired anywhere meanwhile roasties are getting paid to make tiktok videos in the office.
>>105764560can't you just move back home and try getting a job in tech? working a warehouse job seems like a death knell to your tech career. also you need time to learn things and build projects.
>>105765267>can't you just move back home and try getting a job in tech? >also you need time to learn things and build projects.that's what i've been doing for the last year, my ambitions are already crushed
Is it really that bad? Office worker burnt out and I really wouldn't mind a year break now. Starting to get really depressed.
>>105765294I would slum it out for another 6 months before entirely giving up. you never know
>junior sys admin requires senior support tech experience
Is that a thing?
>>105766172Yeah if you don't have any other credentials.
>>105766940What about a junior software dev who can't find work?
I guess I don't know enough about linux or networking desu. I can use them but definitely not well enough to be considered higher than other candidates.
>>105766967have you thought about getting into retail?
>>105767107why should he?
i'm starting to realize that the "indian nepotism in tech hiring" thing doesnt apply if you're muslim
will changing my name to be more hindu sounding help me find a job?
>>105767238It'll probably help you land interviews.
Some Polish dude in one of these threads talked about how his surname is 1 character away from a popular jeet surname and when he showed up for the interview they were visibly disappointed.
>>105767217better to realise you're not getting a tech job sooner, rather than waste a year applying
>follow along with a 40 minute react tutorial
I know react now.
But seriously, I don't like the back and forth between types of braces, it's annoying as shit. Half of my bugs while following along were related to using { instead of (.
>>105767385() is for params
{} is for objects
whats so confusing?
>>105767481Every function ends with ]})} or some shit like that and that can be hard to read when you're half blind. And you forgot that {} is also for javascript code.
But, at least while learning it, you don't necessarily know what's an object instead of a param.
>>105767566i forgot {} is also for jsx.
you should learn to code with plain js well enough before getting into react
use https://javascript.info/
>>105767598Jsx is the html syntax not the inner javascript which the {} is surrounding.
I've learned a little bit of javascript, I'm not great though I usually use jeet languages. But react's nothing too complex, it's just nesting components. I really just needed to learn the general syntax, how it was laid out and how components were assigned to the screen. I'm used to dragging and dropping in winforms or writing it procedurally with something like XAML.
>>105760623 (OP)I could max out these threads for the next month just posting "after careful consideration" emails
Why do HR karens post job ads like this?
>>105760623 (OP)Reminder that it is entirely your fault for being unemployed and you are the only one to blame for not getting into tech. If you didn't even go to a top CS university, don't even bother, we need McDonald's and Taco Bell workers.
>been unemployed since I got laid off last September and my unemployment and severance are about to run out.
>I've currently got 2.5 yoe with python, spring boot, js / ts, react, and Azure experience.
>Rn, I'm learning angular because I see it being used in a lot of enterprise stacks.
I've started applying a couple of months ago and I'm getting nothing but rejection emails. How screwed am I? Should I just change careers?
>>105769193just say you're non-white trans for the minority token job

why is that general filled with such assholes?
>applied for over 200 jobs on indeed alone
>sent personalized cover letters with deliverables (something unique demonstrating my skill set)
>56% of the fuckers don't even open to view the application, not a rejection or anything
>apply directly to one of the local jobs in my area on their website

kek, such a waste of time. I've been doing less job search and more setting up a small business
>>105769341Becoming jaded is part of the job.
>>105769492it's not even jaded, it's being an actual asshole.

Wonder if in the future Chinese people will give their children names like "Rohan Li" or "Surya Wang" in order to qualify for Indian nepo

But then again with Trump in power and souring US-China relations, there might be fewer Asian parents out here in general

>>105771586You're probably screwed unless you just decide to stick with academia.
Ageism is a real thing and even being in mid-20s with no work experience is a death sentence for a career. You'll have to spend a few years in help desk hell making no more than $60k before you're considered for junior programming/networking/sysadmin/cybersec jobs.
I just spent like 10 minutes lighting potato chips on fire on my stove. I should really get a job. Anyway I'm going to shower and head to Costco bros
I'm 34 and going back to school next year for a CS degree. I'm in it for the love of the game.
>>105771167>2011+14>Still believing mythsISHYGDDT
>>105771167Yes, typically 30 minutes after applying
Another week of zero replies. Been applying for 6 months now, only a couple of interviews.
>>105771997>lighting potato chips on fire on my stove.but why?
>>105772071They taste absolutely delicious but they destroy my stomach, presumably because they're so oily, so I microwaved them to see if that would boil some oil out or whatever, and it sort of worked but not very well, so I kept microwaving them and they got burnt and I was like lol, and then I remembered how Cheetos are flammable and I was like I wonder if these are too, and they were, but not enough that the fire would spread to the rest of the chip unless the chip was vertical (so the flame would be hitting the rest of the chip) and all my tongs are rubber-tipped so I started stacking them to see if that would get it going and it sort of worked and uhh yeah
>>105772999based scientician. a true explorer of life. wouldnt hire though, too much free will/ability for independent thought
>>105769446>apply directly to one of the local jobs in my area on their websiteIt'd be nice to know how fewer applications there are when you're taken off-site, I know it adds obstacles but surely that isn't enough to reduce it by much in this climate.
>>105771940If you can't land a junior role in the next few years you're fucked, LLMs will probably be able to replace juniors within 5 years.
Is going into networking viable? I hear it's one of the most jeeted fields but they'll always need people to plug cables into boxes and set up routers, right? Currently working on getting Network+ and Security+ certs to compliment my degree.
>>105771940can't speak for him but i'd take helldesk at this point, even those jobs are getting harder to land because now you have to compete with over qualified layoff cattle and H-1Bs that will work themselves to death for remittance money. i've been seeing posts demanding fucking masters degrees for junior positions
Why is this thread so much better than /twg/?
>>105765239it's only a labor shortage for cheap Indians.
>Be hiring manager

Lads, I got my job by lying my ass off on my resume. I researched the company and found out what systems they used, did a half hour youtube tutorial on all of them, threw them on my resume to make myself seem like the perfect candidate, got to the interview and did my best and got the job. No joke one of them was a PHP exercise and I didn't know it at all, but it was similar enough to XML/HTML that I just fucking guessed my way through it.
When I interview I'm not really looking for 10/10 1337 technicians, I'm looking for resourcefulness and drive because that's what actually matters in the job. If I were to hire someone who knew everything from day 1 that'd be like hiring some kind of unicorn. It's just not going to happen and every company is different.
Tailor your CV
Lie - We need X many of Y. Oh you have that. Of course you do. Believe me nobody has the time to call your past companies and check. I barely have time to shit most days. The hell am I calling your past companies and getting through the phone tree to whoever my contemporary is (who is probably also rushed off his ass and doesn't have time to answer stupid questions from non-affiliated companies) and ask them questions about you. HR won't either, they're too busy persecuting men who farted in the wrong direction or dealing with racism complaints because someone said they eat pussy a little too loudly and some old bitch decided they wanted to ruin someones career over it.
Research - what the company does, what services it provides, it's financial reports.
Put a fucking suit on for your interview video call - It shows you're serious and that you actually want the job.
Good luck gentlemen.
>>105773936How do I lie about apps Iโve never made or published to the AppStore? How do I lie about having 2+ years professional experience working with litany of different frameworks and libraries?
>>105773959>"Yeah I worked for "pick a company" for X years and we produced "Pick 1 app from their lineup". it uses "The shit they want" and I was part of that project team for "X years. You'll fall flat on your face if you can't talk about the frameworks and libs, but it'll get you through the experience check.
>>105773936Yeah that's great and all but how many dozens or hundreds of times will I have to do that? You can't be an expert in everything, especially not well enough to pass the interviews.
>didn't graduate recently (been neet for a while)
>see a company advertising for a graduate role, not explicitly asking for them but obviously looking for recent grads
>surely they have junior positions
>nope, all senior+ lol
>look further, there's a single "developer" position on their website, not advertised at all elsewhere
>needs 1-2 years commercial experience
Just kill me already.
>>105765239There's a shortage for high level positions. It's mostly just entry level that's dead.
Every company's job openings page reads:
>senior>senior>senior>senior>senior>lead>lead>lead>manager>manager>manager
>>105773936>Lads, I got my job by lying my ass off on my resume.Every other person you speak to about job troubles will tell you this, and every last one thinks its some secret esoteric hack that's your key to the big leagues.
Hundreds of indians do this for every single opening. And you know what, now they don't believe the things that I actually have done.
>>105773959Lying about your employment history when applying to a large organisation is pretty much impossible now since they are all hiring third-parties to investigate your background. Yet another nightmare hoop to jump through in the hiring process.
>>105774426It doesn't help that most people have an aversion to lying.
>>105771940>>105773632I'm European so it's not like openings exist in the first place
>>105762849Same here but I don't want to be a neet, I just can't find a job kek
>>105773936Adding to this because I've been in an interviewing panel.
My boss is a real fucking stickler we're literally looking for unicorns the only reason we hired someone was because he had a close connection to a friend of my boss and he's willing to forego some of his communication issues (tendency to overexplain) otherwise he would've not gotten picked either.
If your interviewer is a woman or white, GL! I find they're the pickiest of the bunch.
>>105775161OFFICIAL INTERVIEW RACISM POWER RANKINGS
>JEW INTERVIEWERyou only got the interview because he thinks you're "in on it". you're guaranteed to get the job if you dont spill your spaghoots. if it were a fake job or otherwise not the case that this is two old boys hanging out, he would have sent a goy to deal with you instead.
>NIGGER INTERVIEWERtyrones and shaniquas are not attracted to hr and not normally let into hiring positions anyway. to be interviewing you they're probably a massive uncle tom and true believer in capitalism and the hiring process. your interview will go well if you are at least as competent as the baseline desired and, more importantly, truly believe in your saelf.
>CHINK INTERVIEWERbred from birth to get where he is, he will tolerate nothing short of absolute perfection in anyone else, even if deep down he knows he's not perfect himself. likely to be fooled by unicorn resumes and bring you in for an interview in good initial faith, but will grill the fuck out of you and you will not survive. if you are genuinely 2000iq he won't care about your race but if given the chance between a 200iq white and a 197iq chink he will take the chink (but dream at night of personally executing every <193iq chink though)
>SLAV INTERVIEWERsimilar to a nigger interviewer, but there will always be a pang of superiority within him, whether it is because he's a rich oligarch wannabe or someone who escaped an ex-soviet hell and overly proud of it. either way, he thinks he's better than you and will not be afraid to show it. will probably crush your hand during the greeting handshake.
>JEET INTERVIEWERif you aren't a jeet yourself you ain't getting the job. and even if you are a jeet, if you aren't of the appropriate caste for the position relative to him in the org chart you're also SoL
>WH*TE INTERVIEWERthe job was fake. you're only there to be documented as failing the interview so he can just import more jeets (or slavs, if in yurop)
>>105775323>if you aren't a jeet yourself you ain't getting the jobExtremely true. If you see the interviewer is a pajeet, you might aswell do a 360 degree turn and walk straight back out the door.
>>105775323Meanwhile, if I ever enter a hiring manager position (lmao, more likely to become a brick layer)
>White or fuck off
>>105775513esl jeet pretending to be wh*te... los creaturo de la merde...
>>105775540You speak spic, there is a 100% chance you're browner than me.
>>105775323Bullshit. Chinks are identical to jeets but also totally retarded and if you say basic tech things (that is far beyond them) you're automstically out.
There is no EI in cucknada

>same review when the few months have passed but no raise. Ask for raise.
>fired on the spot without severance because lmao cucknada

>sell everything I oen to make it 5, now sleeping on thr floor with only a phone for belongings

>suddenly EI case is closed, no denial or explanation

>close it again the next month
>do it sgain another month
>now bankrupt, owe 1 month of renr, forces out of the xountry to get a job because this is cucknada and jobs have never been a thing here
Cucknada owes me 20k and I won't ever see a dime from it in my lifetime. I paid several hundred k's in taxes like a good canacuck straight into the most corrupt politicians on earth's pockets.
On the plus side being forces to leave showed me that the world is 10000x better than the crabs in the bucket lied about, it's just cucknada that is a 4th world shithole with unironically lower qol than fucking brazil.

>>105776541They don't look at them but they do ask if they exist. If you say no, into /dev/null you go.
>>105774426I got away with it to cover an employment gap on my resume by using a non-tech company that went bankrupt the year my fake employment with them ended. >>105772034Recently received a rejection email from a company I applied to over two years ago. Going to guess it was generated automatically when HR closed out the position, probably from it being eliminated rather than filled.
>>105777251Yes, that is correct.
>>105776541they definitely look at your projects if its a small startup and you're approaching the founder directly

>>105777330>probably from it being eliminated rather than filled. They ran out of money because they weren't doing work because they weren't hiring devs.
I did it, I applied to a factory.
Can't wait to be ghosted.
>>105777465It was HCA Healthcare. Maybe the Medicaid stuff freaked them out. In general healthcare is one of the few sectors that has shown steady growth, including in employment. While I've never worked for a healthcare company directly, I did work on some projects for a consulting company and saw IT in heathcare is generally a huge, fucked up mess.
>>105777485factories are usually desperate for workers, would be surprised if you didn't hear back
>>105777659Well I say factory, it's a timber mill. Unironically looks like a good place for an aimless person to make a career.
I hope I can do the work if they hire me though, I need the money but I'm a typical computer nerd, the heaviest thing I've lifted is my dog.
>>105777748i refuse to believe its this bad in the west
>>105777824You have no idea.
>>105777306When I was doing it, they wanted a contact from each of your former employers who could confirm your employment. If you couldn't provide them with a contact they could reach, they started digging deeper and asking for loads of stupid shit like tax returns, bank statements and Government forms.
>>105778734They never asked me for any of that but yes, those would be more difficult to fake and wouldn't be worth the effort. Most companies aren't going to bother with anything that can't be done through automated means but once in a while you'll find one that's ambitious like the one you're talking about.
It's funny to note that Georgia Tech had a football coach who lied about having an advanced degree and no one caught it. Not HR at the university, not the sports writers covering the football program, not the producers of the games. Not even when he won 'National Coach of the Year'. He got away with it for decades until he left to coach at Notre Dame and the lies were unraveled.
>The biography, which had remained more or less unchanged for two decades, stated that O'Leary had earned three letters in football at the University of New Hampshire, but when The (Manchester) Union Leader called The University of New Hampshire to research a feature story on him, the school informed the paper he had not even played in one game.>He then admitted that he had not earned a master's degree from "NYU-Stony Brook University": this was a non-existent institution named after two separate schools over 50 miles apart. He had taken only two courses at Stony Brook, and never graduated. When this inaccuracy came to light, Notre Dame promptly forced O'Leary to resign.
>>105775589>chinks are identical to jeetsgood morning saar
is it a good sign if the company I just finished interviewing at put a meeting in my calendar to "discuss the results of my interview"?
I can't imagine them scheduling a meeting just to say "sorry you failed" but at the same time, I don't want to get my hopes up prematurely...
Only think I can think of is that they'll go through the mistakes I made and explain why I failed, but I heard that most companies avoid doing that so they can't be sued for potential discrimination
>>105777404absolutely not. I have 13 yoe and half of those were specifically in small startups.
>>105779039Well they'd just email you if you failed.
I guess expect to negotiate salary. There is the remote possibility that they're psychopaths that want to explain to you in detail how terrible you are, but it's quite unlikely.

And yet his interviewersโand/or the HR department, if your company has been infested by that bureaucratic parasiteโswear that they only hire above-average/A-level/top-1% people.
Itโs a big problem, especially now. Thereโs a boom on. I get harassing emails from recruiters every day. Everyoneโs desperate to hire developersโฆbut developers are not fungible. Let me offer a humble proposal: donโt interview anyone who hasnโt accomplished anything. Ever. Certificates and degrees are not accomplishments; I mean real-world projects with real-world users. There is no excuse for software developers who donโt have a site, app, or service they can point to and say, โI did this, all by myself!โ in a world where Google App Engine and Amazon Web Services have free service tiers, and it costs all of $25 to register as an Android developer and publish an app on the Android Market.
