They refused systemd but lost that war and refuse to acknowledge it. Now, Gentoo is wasting a lot of time to use everything from systemd ecosystem excepting systemd itself resulting in a hybrid disgusting half assed environment. They also have a chuds problem and had to delete the off-topic forums.

doesnt take that long on modern cpus, and if you have anything with 12 + cores , probably take < an hour for a bare minimum setup.

I'm been using gentoo for so long I don't think I could go back to arch. I've only had one issue where I broke the system due to messing around with grub but ive long switched to efibootmgr

its a rolling release. not updating for a couple of weeks breaks your system. rolling release is an inherently retarded design philosophy

its a huge amount of work to set up and maintain. you become a slave to the OS, rather than it becoming a slave to you

the optimizations from compiling yourself are slim to none

devuan is better. you can get a system up and running with an easy installer. its stable release. you can go back and modify the kernel after you get a working system up and running. you can compile software yourself if you want

gentoo is a meme for faggots

No, and even if it does one, you can update in steps, package list is a git repo

shut up fag. gentoo needs an internet connection too. devuan is fully offline with its dvd. it has deboostrap so you can do the autism install if you want. its superior in every way

gentoo is stupid and gay

github is cancer. being reliant on internet for anything is gay and cancer. github, cloud etc. if you rely on that in any way, you dont own your software

Since when? I don't update for months at a time and my system runs fine. Only occasional breakage on the once every few month updates

I use gentoo on PC and devuan on steamdeck not to waste battery on rebuilds, kinda friendly fire. You just don't understand how good gentoo is.
>its superior in every way
On devuan you often can't have very old version of some package and very new version of other package. It's either stable or testing or unstable for all packages. Yes, there's preferences or policy or something like that to do it, but it shits itself in 90% of cases. On gentoo it always worked for me.
>autism install
On gentoo installation indeed takes some time but who cares, you install once and use it for many years.

you never need the new version for any software. updates are almost always downgrades. the only new software you need is yt-dlp. literally nothing else

The advantage is that you don't have to worry that package maintainers were tortured and forced to add a backdoor before building.

yes, it's super annoying. it's laughable how no one has seriously tried to solve fix. though eix and metadata caches do mitigate the issue a bit.

I donโ€™t know. Iโ€™ve got a 1950x, which admittedly is on an old architecture but thatโ€™s still 32 threads with 32GB of ram (maybe I should double it) and last time I made a full install it took hours and I didnโ€™t even compile a web browser.
I wonder how much faster it would be on a 9700x even with the lower core count.
