also im pretty sure it has to do with privacy as an overall theme. socials are dying because of the era of employers ruining careers over facebook posts by 21yos. after that you can get privacy through anonymity, exclusivity, or both. people seem to prefer the exclusivity/partial anonymity provided by discord.

They didn't die. There's the main site (4channel) and second tier altchans. Same way there's Twitter and second tier bluesky and mastodon or whatever.
For every different social media usecase there's one big site and some shitty copies

I'm here because the anonymity allows a unique social experience, but for someone who doesn't get the appeal of that (which isn't obvious from looking at the site) its a poor experience

It's not just imageboards, every online discussion platform is dying. Forums, IRC and textboards died long ago, wikis are dying, digg was replaced by Slashdot which was replaced by Reddit which is dying (replaced by discord). YouTube killed all video hosts then because an advertising platform with no real room for discussion.

Normies are fine staying in their tiktok and Instagram bubbles eating whatever garbage the algorith serves them and nerds are segregating themselves into discord servers which are unindexed and moderated by trannies and glowies.

The internet is little more than a gigantic billboard and psyop distribution method right now. Most of the people you talk to are bots or paid shills
