Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: Thermal gel solution has QC issues.
Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.

AOC Q27G40XMN: Nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor if you win the QC lottery.
Bad one causes HDR content to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option [Strongest].

SSD recommendations happen to be all-WD/Sandisk because they're performant in both Windows & Linux.

RTX 5070: buy if its price/performance is good & if you're willing to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks in the future.
RX 9070 non-XT: current 9070 prices in the US are too close to the 9070XT's to justify a recommendation.

7800XT has a higher raster perf (better than 6800XT).
9060XT got some FSR4 stuff if you care for it,
None of the upscalers are perfect btw, it's whether they are "good enough" for you (no right answer).

Repaste the GPU with an MX4, MX6, or PTM7950.
Open the card up carefully if you want to re-use the thermal pads.
You can find accurate thermal pad measurements for your card if you ask the customer service agent or visit the official forum of your AIB.
Or you can rely on outside sources.

It's important to get the mounting pressure right (make sure GPU is making contact with the cold plate & the thermal pads aren't too thick/stiff to damage solder balls.)

Let's also do gap cards - used cards that fill in pricing gaps, obviously only if the used card improooves.

The used gpu market in the $150 to $350ish brackets is actually still pretty good. Not as good as it was late last year but it's not totally fucked like the sub-$100 portion. At one point the reference vega 56 was like $30-$40 if you bought multiple and the 980ti was $50ish. $100-$150 is kind of weird and has been for a while, it's usually like the overbuilt 3rd world tier cards or sometimes barely functional nearly burnt out blower versions of the better cards.

Something quick, haven't checked prices in a while so basically a guess. A k2200 for old games at $25-$30
Vega 56 if you can get it for $65ish or under, actually great if you use linux still.
5700 if it's under $100
2070/super, maybe the 2060 super or 2080/super for the $150-180 category
2080ti for $250ish and under
3080 for under $380
After that you just buy new.

What is best monitor that has *big*?

I'm currently using an ancient dell 30" 2560x1600 monitor (and some random 1080p 24" monitor as a secondary). The pixel density is adequate. I'd rather have higher density, but I also want a physically larger screen so I could use just a single, centered monitor. There are 43" 4k monitors that would have about the same pixel density, are they any good? Why doesn't anyone make an 8k 43" monitor? Dell makes an 8K monitor but it's only 32".

Also I don't want to do any scaling, shit on my screen almost looks too big as it is, I want everything to be smaller lol. Really I feel like I need 16K to get good density so I can have better looking fonts and shit and still have stuff tiny. Like 16K scaled to 8K but in a 40-50" package maybe I dunno.

Also I'm poor so what's the best, most affordable, biggest high res monitor? Need full viewing angles too don't care about brightness though I keep my monitor on the lowest brightness setting.

I am doing a gig of building a PC that can house a RTX pro 6000 blackwell 96 GB workstation editions, but needs to also work for dual RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell workstation editions if the client wants to expand in the future.

What hardware other than the GPU's do you recommend? I have about 3k-5k budget for non-GPU hardware. So far, I am considering an Asus X870E Hero, AMD 9950X, arctic liquid freezer iii 420, G.Skill DDR5 Trident Z5 RGB 2x32GB 6000 (or maybe 4x), Cooler Master M2000 Platinum, fractal design 7 XL case.

Gaming motherboards dont seem to have nvlink these days... and i dont really have the budget for a WRX90 (AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7970X) or W790 (Intel Xeon W-3400) board.

Any suggestions?

yes, with larger case (ATX vs mATX) you have ability to create much better airflow and to use larger fans. but depends on the build tho - high tdp and power-hungry components will definitely feel better in large case (120+w cpus and 250-300w++ gpus), while for low-tdp components (i.e. 60-isn watt cpus and sub-200w gpus) it does not matter much, but larger case will still win.
but don't go full-retard mode with the size - you don't need those 1-meter-tall xxl-atx cases - just standard atx size is a sweet spot

Changed the SSD and video card model (Prime has decent build quality, Gigabyte currently has some QC issues with their thermal gels).
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MJLjkf

I agree with the other guy that you should consider getting a 2TB drive.
The board has more than enough VRMs to power that 7800X3D, but you need to update the BIOS to the latest version before you install that chip.
https://videocardz.com/newz/asrock-goes-on-record-confirms-ryzen-cpu-failures-are-linked-to-bios-settings-offers-warranty-support

I don't think the savings from the 7800X3D to a 7700X or 9700X will be enough to move up to a 5070 Ti (unless you get lucky with the $750 PNY restocks @ Best Buy).

I don't know who needs to hear this but if you're doing a full PC build half the budget should be going to the GPU
everything should then be built around whatever GPU you bought
the next most important component is the PSU don't cheap out on the PSU! if you buy a high quality one it will literally last the rest of your life, if you cheap out it will pop and take half your system with it.
then the Mobo
then the CPU
then the CPU cooler
then the RAM
then the storage
and very last is the case, everyone rocked pic rel at some point

I just ranked the components in order of what gets your money first
you want to "bundle" the CPU+Mobo to make sure the Mobo actually has the power phases to power the CPU you're selecting
if you try putting a high powered CPU into a shit board it'll be very unstable, especially nowadays with how PBO works you're better off getting a great Mobo then just upgrading the CPU later if needed, the right Mobo will last you 10 years
for gaming CPUs reeeally aren't that important, a 7600x would be fine for that build

>Why doesn't anyone make an 8k 43" monitor?
Not enough demand for that type of display, especially not for gaming.

>Dell makes an 8K monitor but it's only 32"
It's probably one of their UltraSharp professional displays.

>Like 16K scaled to 8K but in a 40-50" package maybe I dunno.
You must have an insanely good eyesight.

>Also I'm poor so what's the best, most affordable, biggest high res monitor?
If you're poor you can't get a 32" 8K or a 43" 8K display

Get a 42/43" 4K TV that works well as a display, I think the monitor guy likes the C4 WOLED.
OLED displays have burn-in issues btw, but if you're low-brightness bro it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Resolution greater than 8k doesn't make sense in any size of screen. It's high enough resolution that you won't even be able to resolve the pixels if the screen fills 110% of your field of view. The only reason for 16k and beyond is CSI shit where the display is an entire wall and you walk closer to it to get a 4k view of the reflection in the victim's eye.

On the other hand I want the three exhaust fans on the side and back to be always on full so theyโ€™re venting the CPU fan all the time, and thatโ€™s accomplished by leaving them on that powered hub
idk tho, my dumb ass has been trying to figure it out for a week

Newer midrange or better motherboards have a CPU-less BIOS update option.
AM5 board owners and Intel 13/14th gen -K processor owners should use that feature to get the latest firmware for their CPU before installing the CPU & memory.

It's probably the same, 6950 has a better binned GPU and maybe a few more power stages.
The card dimensions are the same for what it's worth.

I look down upon ye frame-technology non-believers. Ever since finally getting a card that was not from the previous century I've been able to press the frame generation button and see what the real world benefit is; my GPU is able to run ice cold because it actually only needs to achieve half the framerate. My 165hz monitor might not be the best but a 160 frame cap is still plenty, and turning on framegen means the target render is merely 80 frames a second. I was shocked to see a temperature read in the mid-50ยฐCs range on a AAA game on all maxed settings, even if it was a non-action scene, and in the summer no less.

Less temps means less power draw means less noise means lower room temps means a comfortable experience that a person wiping his screen with his nose looking for visual errors will never have. There is being poor and then there's choosing to live like a poor.

The latency increase is a thing, which is why Nvidia bundles Reflex with Framegen and basically requires it all the time and why it isn't implemented in competitive games. Sure, untreated, the latency can be worse than framegen + Reflex but it's less of a free lunch than upscaling but yes, for a game where reaction time does not matter which is most non competitive games, it's good enough of a tradeoff.

CPU fan has to Motherboard CPU_FAN header via 4pin PWM
CPU fan also has a 3pin ARGB cable

Five case fans (two big intake ones on the top [240/280mm] and three exhaust fans on the side and back [120mm)

The case fans came with an RGB hub, depicted on the lower left from the manual.
Right now the hub is powered by the SATA cable so the fans are on max all the time, but the hub and the CPU fan both each have a 3pin ARGB cable, currently unconnected

I got the ARGB controller seen on the upper right, but I donโ€™t know how to best set it up.

I think that when the hub is connected via that 4pin PWM cable to the Motherboard CHA_FAN2 header, all the fans plugged into the controller will be regulated by that temperature sensor?
So I should disconnect the two intake fans from the hub and run them through that controller instead, which can also operate the ARGB for the hub case fans (exhaust) and the cpu fan?

Please render whatever aid you can I fear I am legit brain damaged, fans should not be the hardest part

It's a good case, commonly recommended last year.
You'll have to do your research to compare the difference between that and the 207/217.
A common complaint of the 216 case is the loud front fans at stock speeds, you need to set a custom fan speed/curve for those.

What are you trying to accomplish with that? It doesn't show anything. 5 fans on the left, 5 fans on the right, 5 fans on the bottom?
Shit makes no sense.

Just go find an angled shot of your case and MS paint some lines pointing to where fans are (in actual 3d space) and people will have some thoughts for your setup but with whatever the fuck you have here.. lmao. You've gotta be trolling.

I already have the corsair CPU cooler in my current system so I'll reuse it. Is it enough for the 9950X3d?
I also have a 750W PSU, but it doesn't seem to leave much of a buffer with the current configuration, and this is before adding the drives and other things that will surely drive up the wattage.

DDR5 memory modules are stressful on the memory controller, those two separate 64GB kits won't run at advertised EXPO speeds without manual tuning (might not even work).
Drop down to 2x 32GB or 2x 48GB at 6000MT/s CL30 if you want better EXPO compatibility.
If you want the 128GB memory capacity, you'll have to sacrifice speed/timings.
The first 7~8 min of this vid will explain it.

>I already have the corsair CPU cooler in my current system so I'll reuse it. Is it enough for the 9950X3d?
If the CPU isn't running near full utilization for an extended time, it should be okay.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d/22.html

1000W should be fine for that setup, even with the storage drives.

Monitor first > use case (productivity/gaming) > CPU socket generation > CPU > GPU
This is the actual correct parts selection pipeline. CPUs are more important to keep up-to-date now but the truth is still that people will upgrade this part the least because it can entail replacement of other components, namely motherboard and memory. Whatever is picked will likely stay until the machine is sunset to 2nd hand or the garbage bin. The choice of the CPU will also inform the budget of the entire build; no point in picking a class 70 or higher if you must settle for a midrange CPU (ie _600 - _700 no 3D cache).

This class is simply not overkill for 1440. You turn every graphical setting up to max and it will stress the card, especially any ray or path tracing options. It is simply the correct match to maintain high framerates. Anyone going to 4k with these class of cards will always be compromising on a lot of settings.

Looking at possibly upgrading from 32GB to 64 or higher, is it worthwhile getting faster DDR5 for the 7900X? Looks like the fastest my motherboard officially supports is 7200 MT/s, is it possible/worthwhile overclocking it even higher?

your xmp isn't even turned on anon. you've been running your memory at 4800mt/s. go to your bios and enable your xmp profile.
ryzen 7000 and 9000 memory controller peaks out at 3000mhz at 6000mt/s and will have to run in half speed higher than about 6200-6400mt/s meaning it drops to only 1800mhz at 7200mt/s and loses performance. If you want high speed ram for OC autismo, 8000mt/s is worth running as it overcomes the half speed penalty but this is only possible on single rank 32gb or 48gb kits.
64gb and 96gb kits tops out at about 6800-7200mt/s and will require a lot of manual fine tuning to get there while 6000-6200mt/s will just work with better performance.
tl;dr no.

Guess I'll wait for shit to get cheaper then. I really don't push this system to its limits very often, but I noticed Red Dead Redemption II and having a bunch of tabs and shit open was eating up a surprising amount of RAM.

ram is really cheap right now so you can consider getting a 2x32gb 6000cl30 kit of ram
though if you ever intend to move to a zen6 cpu, you might as well wait and see since amd will be revamping the memory controller and infinity fabric links on that generation which might make 2x32gb or 2x48gb of 8000mt/s ram viable to run for max performance

Ran out of money. Bought the CPU, motherboard, and RAM on holiday in Japan where it was cheap at the time. The RX 6800 was meant to be a stopgap (got it on eBay for AU$550 in '23, decent price at the time) while I waited for GPU prices to come down to something reasonable, then I just never got around to upgrading because new titles are hot garbage and the 6800 runs everything I play, and I haven't needed more than 32 GB RAM.

I still think that sapphire pulse is superior because it's a 3 slot cooler vs the 2.5 slot asrock one however there's no tear down of the asrock card to compare VRM
if all the asrock has going for it is back plate pads you could always buy silicon pads and stick them on the pulse

The 500Hz QD-OLED monitors have DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification (500 nits peak HDR brightness, 300 nits peak SDR).
But this (MSI 272QP X50) might be over your budget or not available yet.
https://displayhdr.org/performance-criteria/

Other 1440p OLEDs, all similar with some different OLED panel protection.
I believe MSI has the strictest panel protection settings out of the list.

ASUS XG27ACDNG
Alienware AW2725DF

I don't care for DP2.1 & UHBR20 for these 1440p monitors, the premium isn't worth it.
Better to move up to 32" 4K for that cost.

WOLED, I would wait for the new Gigabyte monitor released later this year (TB500 cert)

AMD bulk orders the GDDR chips to get the most favorable deals and sells the VRAM + GPU as a set to AIBs.
I think AIBs order the rest of the board components (including PCB and cooler).

On Linux they all use the same RADV driver too.

Each GPU chip can contain various hardware blocks (also known as IP blocks), and each of those are separately versioned. We usually refer to hardware generations by the main version number of the GFX (graphics) hardware block.

Each hardware generation has different chips which usually only have minor differences between each other, such as number of compute units and different minor versions of some IP blocks. We refer to each chip by the code name of its first release, and we donโ€™t differentiate between refreshes of the same chip, because they are functionally exactly the same.

mostly correct
all AMD cards use AMDVLK as their vulkan driver
RDNA2 and below use SCPC as their shader compiler, while RDNA3 and above use the industry standard LLVM
(SCPC and LLVM are both pretty slow, ACO on linux is ~60% faster)
for DX9/DX11 RDNA cards use DXNavi, while GCN cards use an older, slower driver

What should I buy for gaming if the 1080 is gonna be EOL due to losing driver support?

I want to get a P40 for the 24GB RAM for SillyTavern and SDXL / illustrious, the 1080 was actually decent for ST with an 8b model but I gotta step up from SD 1.5. I don't want to spend ยฃ600+ on a 3090 and do everything on one card.

Should I get a newer Radeon or a 20-series? I've seen mixed anecdotes on whether P40 and RTX drivers get along so maybe an AMD card doesn't care as long as it's the primary display GPU, idk. The only games I really play are GTA V, the valve source games, unity games and atlus ports. I don't play new triple A shit.

My version came with a 1TB NVMe.

According to above

Could the 1TB limit be an error on their part, due to the original NVMe drive only being 1TB?

Capacity limits on NVMe slots aren't an actual thing, it's just PCIe in another form factor. It's just the capacity of the drives it's sold with (they have to write "up to" for legal reasons because the full 1TB isn't actually usable, partition tables and such take a few kB).

Looks good, if you're going for Win 10 choose the B650M instead, otherwise no wifi and bluetooth. If you don't care about that or going with Win 11 the board you've chosen is better since it has pcie 5.0 16x.
