I worked under contract in seattle for microsoft. I was the only non-indian guy in a sea of 300 Indians in our group.
There was one white guy, the manager, who always came in with a shirt and tie. He literally sat up front at a desk and watched us like a sweatshop.
We’d be, like, 4 to 6 people to these tiny apartments.
I was lucky, I got just one other guy in my apt who wasn’t indian, but didn’t work in our group.
This was in the early days of dot net. A lot of us were writing assemblies that dealt with AD security.
As far as I’m aware, I was the only one (again, out of 300) that proactively looked for issues with the automated tests that had to do with code I wrote and fixed it immediately. Every other developer waited to be assigned the issue.
This was almost 2 decades ago now.
I think it was an interesting experience, I quit after a few years of that shit.
