I just upgraded to a 5800X3D a few years ago, I'm set on an evergreen CPU, the 2600K or 1080 Ti of this decade if you will.

And until microdicks takes their filthy hands off of CPUs and removes pluton I won't be interested in any upgrades.

I am still on my 5800X3D and my system runs perfectly. 64 GB of RAM, 4080S runs everything I throw at it at high settings, with high fps. Zero reason to upgrade as of now.

I was tempted for a moment to upgrade to a 9950X3D but the benchmarks show itโ€™s not really worth it, and rumours are that sometime soon they might make a 16 core with 3D cache on all CCXs.
I bought into AM4 with the 5800X3D, and it was well worth it (extremely mature platform), so I might do this again at the end of AM5.

Just bought myself a 5950X to upgrade from my 1800X. First Ryzen to last AM4 Ryzen, essentially 8 years of platform support, as the 5950X can still be bought new for a reasonable price.

Now I'm just waiting for a sub-120W AMD GPU. Hoping there will be a Radeon 9050 release.

fpbp and same. I could go AM5 if I wanted to but my 5900X still does everything I need it to and does it fast. burning through at least $1200 (CPU, mobo, RAM) just for what, 25% more performance at best, isn't worth it to me. upgrading my GPU was a higher priority imo so I upgraded my 3070Ti to a 4080 Super 8 months ago, and I increased my RAM from 64 to 128. that's gonna last me for a while

absolutely nothing, am4 was utter dogshit on too many points for far too long.
reminder that the day one usb issues still aren't fixed on many chipset, am4 ram support is abysmal and board QA does not exist.
this platform, just like every amd platform, is embarrassing.
i'm currently on a ryzen 9 5950x with a rx7900xt, I've had enough of this mid-tier company.
they have so much money and yet every fucking thing they do is mid, absolute pajeet behavior, I don't care about shintel aviv and ngreedia at this pooint, atleast their platforms have QA and work, performances don't matter if you can't exploit them reliably like you can't on am4 if you want to do anything but G@YMaIdsNG

you're most likely using only two e-die 32GB r1 cl18 3200MHz sticks, it should work fine. anything higher end is lottery

The company which made CPUs that had actual manufacturing defects which killed them has QA and provides a product that works? Pretty surprising.

Not even gonna talk about nvidia, I've used them since Riva TNT and nothing about their products is high quality. The latest cards don't even have per wire current monitoring shunts, that's how much they are cutting corners.

Usb dropout can't be fixed via firmware for every system since some are caused by wonky Io dies that slipped through QA. Some people only got theirs fixed after RMAing with AMD for a new CPU and didn't have to fafo with BIOSes.

maybe I should grab a 9900x now, they're pretty affordable atm and my 5800x feels rather dated

Because the difference will be very noticeable. I upgraded from a similar CPU to a Ryzen 3800x and was blown away, web pages load much faster.
If you're happy now then you'd be even happier after an upgrade.

I have a 5700x. If I upgrood anything it will be my 3060. Possibly once the 5000 supers come out but maybe not depends on performance of the 18gb 5070 super and 24gb 5070ti super

I went from 3600 to 5700x and got another 10fps on every 4k game. And the 5700x3d was like $160 on ali express a year ago. It's too late now for good prices you'll have to just wait.

My rule used to be $15 for a game before they printed $14,000,000,000,000 globally over a literal cold and destroyed the value of currency. Now it's $30.

Fucking lol
I have 2 different RAM kits with different timings and XMP profiles in my 5950X home server and it's been rock solid while running 24/7 for years. I just enabled the XMP profile from the slower kit and all 4 modules just werk flawlessly. I think you're a bit confused, it's DDR5 on AM5 which is troublesome with 4 modules, not DDR4 on AM4.

Am5 is so cheap you can get 32gb 6000cl30 voor โ‚ฌ90 a Ryzen 7 7700 voor โ‚ฌ160 on aliexpress and a ASRock b850M-X wifi R2.0 for โ‚ฌ125 which has PCIe 5.0x16 and wifi 6e then when zen6 or even zen7 launches get the highest end 16/24 core and you're good for 10+years

I've been using a Ryzen 2700 for three quarters of a decade. I look at benchmarks on new CPUs and I only see at most a ~100% improvement on single-threaded performance. The only things that ever stress out my CPU are single threaded video games like Kenshi, so why should I bother upgrading? Back in my day "twice as fast" was the kind of improvement you expected in a single generation, and it was ok to skip a generation before upgrading.

Keep using what you have until it no longer suits your use case. I finally dropped Sandy Bridge early this year for a new AM5 build (actually all used parts on eBay lol) with a 7400F.

In 4 years I'll upgrade the CPU to a 9800x3d or some other zen6 X3D processor and use it for another 5 years. I fully expect to be on am5 for a decade.
