The End of Manifest v2
30 June has come and Chrome's Manifest v2 is no more.

>Vivaldi on track to end Manifest v2 per latest announcement
>Brave news is exclusively NFT shilling with no clear statement.
>Microshit turned it off ages ago
>Firefox still winning

Will Chromefags stop updating like the Windows 7 fags until everything stops working?
Will someone fork Chromium like Palemoon to keep it stuck in 2023 forever?

Switched from Firefox to Chrome because Firefox sucks balls.
Tried Firefox again and I switched to Brave because Firefox still sucks even to this date.

Brave is barely tolerable with the bloatware disabled. There's still some bloatware you cannot disable or hide like Web3 nonsense.

Let's just be honest here. The only reason all this Manifest V2 drama is because of one extension. uBlock Origin. Everyone just wants to block ads on YouTube.

Brave's rust-based adblocker uses uBlock filter lists anyway. Vivaldi has a built in adblocker as well and the rest of the extensions I use have been updated to support Manifest V3.

Firefox market share is shrinking every year anyway.

Think of brave as polished chromium with the basic bugs solved and a baked in adblocker that just works, that's it. Remember to disable anything if they ever force it by default.

I would still use firefox if it didn't objectively suck.

Yeah. You can disable AI, VPN, Wallet. Rewards, Tor with a group policy. For Web3 you can disable in settings, unfortunately there's no policy for that, but it doesn't get in the way.

https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/360039248271-Group-Policy

Firefox has this same nonsense still where you need to tweak shit, because default settings are just pure garbage.

there's too much money to be had in wasting your time online
it was only a matter of time before the gatekeepers made an imbalanced compromise of giving you a free option across, with the caveat that they fuck you senseless as you walk across the bridge
manifest v3 is a defensive strategy from google that disproportionately benefits them because of how massive their ad network is compared to competitors, and despite this, it somehow isn't antitrust
it's all bullshit

Never had any issues with it. It works just as good as uBlock Origin. Never seen any ads on YouTube with it, so it is good in my book. I can update all filter lists at the same time whenever I want.

I remember last year when YouTube started introducing the anti-adblock scripts, uBO removed the ability to have one click updates for filter lists. Now you need to click the refresh button for each category. Dumbass move.

So I'm just fine with Brave and every single TrannyFox user should hang themselves, including (You).

>Brave's rust-based adblocker uses uBlock filter lists anyway.
Mv3 causes many filters to be dropped at conversion time due to its limited syntax, creating your own filters is iffy at best, the element picker is a joke, it doesn't support per-site switches or dynamic filtering. By its nature, brave's ad blocker can't compete with ublock origin, since ublock origin isn't just a dumb list of blocked urls.

The significance is that all the major ad blockers rely upon information given to them by the browser (permissions) with manifest v3, that information is now not given out. Google says it's to improve security but considering they are the largest advertising company in the world, the fact it breaks all ad blockers makes it rather convenient.

Dunno if you're still here but if you want a genuine answer: For the longest time Firefox has always been in support for freedom of browsing and being a platform that respects it's users privacy, and has built a good community from it

But then a bit ago they put out a new update to their policy and basically were like 'yeah we know we've been privacy based for the longest time but now we're gonna start taking your browser's information for more "data research" but don't worry bout it it's all peachy keen kay?'

So they're starting to take any data you have and use it to send to god knows where, and I've heard some people say that disabling telemetry works and some that say it still sends it even when disabled, I haven't confirmed myself yet.

So if you're someone that really cares about your data getting sent to others, might wanna consider either Zen (Firefox based, still beta) or Brave, but if you don't care about telemetry stuff then it's probably nothing for you

That would be more hypocrisy according to the hypocrite.

Isn't Zen an aesthetics focused fork to look like Arc or Safari, rather than a non-Spyware one like Librewolf/Arkenfox/Icecat? If your concern is telemetry, use an explicitly tinfoil hat build, not a "web browsers look just eww, let's make it chic!" build.
Am I missing something here?
Reminds me of projects like Rockmelt, Chrome plus a Facebook/MSN Messenger sidebar, that no way in hell was ungoogled. The focus was eating into Pidgin/Trillian/eBuddy's market share, not protecting you from Spyware.

On an iPhone it is because you can't install adblockers yourself I think.
Outside of an iPhone? Lol. Even on Android, Firefox has uBlock Origin.

This might be a stupid question but why doesn't ublock just make their own browser at this point? I go where ublock goes, simple as, and I'm not the only one like that.

unfortunately, Gorhill is a lazy fuck. There's been so much fucking drama from just updating his extensions. Now imagine making a browser fork.
