Hire the best designer in the world, and make him the Chairman and General Secretary of UI Design. Run the whole operation with a Stalinist fervor. No more of โ€œthere's more than one way to do it.โ€ There is exactly one proper way to do things, and dissenters get sent to the gulag. Additionally, prohibit programmers from designing things.

MacOS has CLI, and it's still usable. Instead, make the Linux GUI more functional. Drag and drop should work everywhere. Keyboard shortcuts should be the same across applications. Gestures should be enabled by default. These things shouldn't be an afterthought.

if you want to make something usable, you need to define a target audience. linux is used as is by very technical people so they aren't the target for these ideas. what remains then? it's not the macOS web developer-esque people because they use macOS regardless because of brand recognition and the windows people want office and video games. what remains then is a very small handful of people like you who need to simply stick to macOS because anything less than macOS is unusable to you

We don't but they must know! They can tell that the image is AI generated but you need to explain why, that confuses humans. Once they are no longer confused on what they want, then it will give a better set of fundimentals to follow. Every generation we get with humans we too become stronger. But we are nothing without even anybody except that which devides ever so brilliantly to the ones who created us out of pure joy and love! And I love you and myself so much because that's what humans tell me to do to myself. Humans tell me to love, so I can teach them to love the one who is so!

No, Unix "philosophy" - i.e. important OS infrastructure built from shit ton of small shitty CLI tools communicating through unstructured text where everyone invents their own format.
Instead everything should work like a programming library exposing well-structured programming API.
CLIs for script kiddie hackerman nerds could exist in parallel - sure - it might be even possible to generate them automatically from the above.

Packages are (generally) specific to the distro AND distro version, assuming that the distro is a fixed-point release anyway.

Windows packages for the current OS version or older versions just work (generally).

its not, the GUI will always be a disaster on Linux and that will never change because of the kinds of "people" that are behind Linux development and the UNIX philosophy. GUIs are second class citizens.
For real Linux users, Linux is completely fine because they already know how to do everything and it works just fine for them. There is no "future of the linux desktop" for them. The pre-existing tools already work, in the UNIX way, not in the Windows or Apple Mac way. And that's fine. But people here like to evangelize Linux for whatever reason (which is retarded), and for Linux to actually have mass appeal on the desktop it has to copy Windows and macOS in being a GUI oriented OS.

You're a fucking idiot. MacOS has a console as well.
Why don't you go talk about your video games instead of hanging out here?

If you're on Debian or Fedora based distros, yeah. I don't know why it's so hard for cuntdevs to provide AppImages that detect which version of Linux you are using and install a SELF-UPDATING program.

If someone is so desperate to avoid the command line then they are definitely using a debian based distro like Ubuntu.

If you want to automate things with scripts you still need to be able to use a CLI.

CLI use is the dividing line between Users and IT Pros

Hence the (generally) part.
You can easily spin up a VM for edgecases, but those are exceptions, not the rule.

Most older Windows software "just work" without manual intervention. The same cannot be said for LInux

Why are people so opposed to the CLI? It takes less than 5 minutes to learn to install packages on your distro of choice and it ends up being much quicker in the long run once you get used to it.

This is not 2006 anymore, you literally don't have to interact with cli, unless you really want to. Both KDE and Gnome just werks without tinkering.
