What should I learn to avoid or prevent myself from getting hacked when living with someone who is good at pentesting? I have an android phone and don't mind using linux for my pc if that helps

I ran into this guy at my gym who was sitting in the lounge area working on something and I asked him about his macbook. He started telling me about the pentesting he does, about his diy wifi pineapple, all that shit. Told me about his neighbors networks that he owned, and all the unethical shit he was doing. He's not even a guy who does it for a job, and he just started offering this information to show off.

Really spooked me to even be near this guy who seemed like a total psychopath who knew just enough to potentially cause real problems for people. I've done my own share of that sort of thing with my own network over the years just to learn, but a guy who's actively doing it to break into his neighbor's networks and fuck with things that don't belong to him is a problem.

I was a cybersecurity analyst and CTO fired me after few weeks after telling him I had experience with hacking when i was younger (I used to ransomware few thousand computers out of boredom, didn't even give them keys when they would give me money)

Anywho, long story short, I told him I have hacking experience because i thought we were cool and that people would not only respect me more but also utilize my powers for good and whatnot

OP, if that guy told you, that means he doesn't use his skills for badness anymore, he wants you to trust him. If you don't, he might get angry. Seeing a guy as a threat, that is actually a threat, will only make that person angry, especially if that person wants to be friends

Take it as an advice, be friendly, don't be nervous and ask him for a hacking advice or even help for revenge, he will do it and you will gain a powerful friend :)
