If you're not paying the electricity bill or don't care about its up to if you want to risk it but as the one footing the bill, I take consumption into consideration and since I prefer older games anyway, it was a no brainer to skip Intel cards.

you dont have to overpay for modern features. if you dont need those modern features though just get an old nvidia or amd gpu from a couple generations back.

that's not true with DX9 anymore hasn't been true for at least a year by now
>>105786356
it's overblown.
Yes it's higher and it is pickier on monitor resolutions than Nvidia.
If you're powering multiple monitors on any card it's high. Compared to AMD it's not bad.

I would probably put it in my server so knowing it's good for transcoding is nice.
>>105786455
It has fans though...
>>105786459
It does become a bit of a concern if it has a high idle draw, I would be fine with it taking a lot during high load but since it will have a lot of downtime I would want it to be kinder on my bills.

For my extremely niche use case apparently if you want to buy an Intel Arc A310 for a low power system with HDMI 2.1 support as the spec sheet implies it can have, most vendors have decided to just NOT include HDMI 2.1 because Intel explicitly states that they don't enforce it which is retarded
Also Battlemage doesn't have any 75W GPUs either

They sell for $300 minimum and even with 12GB VRAM they can't compete against a 9060XT with 8GB.

>is the power consumption really that bad?
it stopped being an issue in January, but you have to enable ASPM on the BIOS, which filters many 'tards, it drops to 8-9W on idle

Is the driver free? What about libraries for opengl, opencl and vulkan? On amd you can (at least could) choose a free option for each. Can you do it with these cards? (I know I could read it in distro wikis and forums but you never know for sure till you've done it with your HW)

>electricity bill
non-issue unless you're a retard paying way too much from some scam company. We're in the age of EVs now. My car charges every night and uses more electricity than my computer would ever come close to lmao. Not to mention AC in summer. People who think a (single) GPU are big electricity bills are clueless

>low end
shit efficiency, okay price/perf but nothing special, actual performance is questionable, drivers still kinda shit intel is 2 years away from being sold off for scrap
>high end
high vram cards are absurdly expensive because muh enterprise (lol) - most notably they're more expensive than nvidia's high vram cards (lmao)

in short - there's a very narrow poorfag tier where an incel gpu makes sense, but at this point you might as well scrounge up an extra $50 or so and buy some used 4060 which is better in every way

I believe there's no pro-drivers on linux like with AMD, most of the Intel stack is free except maybe compute API, never used that so IDK

lack of basic power management features at hardware level make it very inefficient if you don't play games all day, runs at like 50 watts when playing vids or scrolling the web, only at complete idle it doesn't have this problem (thanks to aspm), this also means 0 rpm mode pretty much doesn't work (or works herratically) on these cards
plus huge amounts of driver overhead, on a ryzen 5600x with a b580 you are already getting like 30% less performance than an rtx 4060/rx 7600 on cpu bound titles
these two were complete deal breakers for me (poorfag with no ac that rarely plays games and when I do it's all cpu-bound stuff and I only have a 5700x, plus pc is on my desk and i don't like fan noise), that's why when my rx 580 died I got an rx 7600 despite it having less vram (actually the b580 was also 50+€ more expensive cause they aren't like officially commercialized here in italy or something like that so you get to pay a bunch of import taxes on it so yeah, kind of a shitty card for my use case, and I think they're quite overrated in general, they're still in like a beta stage, will probably be fine in a couple of generations)
>>105789045
where did you get that number from? 34 is quite a bit more than 19, and yes, that is quite a lot as constant consumption for a gpu sitting there doing nothing.
>>105789199
>aspm drops to 8-9 on idle
and then jumps right back to 34 watts when doing anything with hardware acceleration (scrolling in your browser, watching a movie), not really a fix.
Anonymous No.105792977 [Report]
>>105790588
The actual hardware is okay if you got it for a reasonable price. But holy fuck the drivers are so bad, "kinda shit" doesn't do it justice.

you are reading total gpu power when you should be reading total BOARD power.
total gpu power is just the power consumption of the chip, it doesn't account for the consumption of vrms + vram + rest of the board
and at low loads, your vram running at high clock is a significant percentage of power draw
tl:dr: retard

if anything, it's full of people reporting shit power consumption even at total idle and with aspm enabled

biggest issue is driver overhead, it would be much faster if it was properly multihreaded, right now the situation is similar to amd 10 years ago.
