How many of you use trackballs?
How comfortable are they?
Do they take effort to master using?
Any suggestions for brands/models?

It's about as difficult as a touchpad. Mice are still superior.

I’m way faster on a mouse with five or more buttons
I still like my Clearly Superior Technologies trackball because it has soul, though. They’ve changed their name to this: https://xkeys.com/l-tracbk.html

thanks

They're pretty damn comfy and my wrist thanks me for it. I can even play (singleplayer) first-person shooters quite naturally with mine. I get my ass kicked quite hard in multiplayer games.

I love it for comfort so I use it. I wouldn't reccomend playing games with it, because you might not be accurate enough.

bought one to nurse a strained wrist, as good as a regular mouse for most things ,only annoyance is that you have to clean them often as dead skin will build up on the points of contact, i would say precision can probably be better than a regular mouse , but it greatly depends on how much friction the trackball has, getting oen with ball bearings rather than slip pads is a good idea.

I also feel you probably could learn to use it for games, but the motion is different and you could probably leanr some different teicks to take advantage of having infinite camera rotation and momentum.

>How comfortable are they?
very, i use a thumb-trackball and its the only mouse i use now.
>Do they take effort to master using?
you'd think so but they really don't, i had zero issues when i made the switch.
>Any suggestions for brands/models?
everywhere i look online people say that finger ones are far more accurate, comfortable and using a thumb one will make your joints explode or some shit. i'm perfectly happy with my thumb one but do your own research, i got no clue what will fit your claw-hand the best.

I started out with thumb-based stuff like M575, MX-Ergo, TB450, MXT3DRBKG, etc...

They were good, but had firmware issues or switches that died, etc...

Then I decided to make the switch to finger based with the ploopy classic. It took a little bit of adjustment (couple of minutes tbqh), but it's very comfy and has solved all of the issues I had with the other stuff. If you still want the thumb trackball you can get the ploopy thumb, but the classic is my favorite so far.

dont buy elecom shit, they are cheaply produced and require heavy mods to be somewhat usable.

how does that qualify as a trackball even

It works if all you do is browse 4chan. I tried to play Half-Life 2 with one and gave up after about 45 seconds of doing so. Felt genuinely awful.

good point, after all nothing is more intuitive than just using your fingers and poking at where you want the cursor to go. ill drop my interest in a trackball and hit up my apple store. you saved me money i would have spent on some overpriced "pro" junk when really, simple = better.

Yes.
I got used to mine in a day of playing Quake with the boys.
Elecom, wears out easy, but nobody makes 'em better. Maybe the new Gameball will be good if they ever ship the bastard.

they are fucking stupid, no matter how much you practice with them they are still objectively worse than mice in pretty much every way. literally the only benefit a trackball has is that it takes up slightly less space on your desk because you don't need to move it around.

>muh ergonomics
buy an ergonomic mouse
