the idea of stale metaphor really works here, say "cattle" you want to invoke this idea of a passive group of people but most people are far removed from the farms. most people don't know why being called cattle is derogatory. they know from literature that people call others cattle because XYZ but the metaphor itself can't invoke an image for people who have never seen cattle at work because the majority of people live in urban environment. you want to be above the "cattle" call them ants. an ant is something that still visible in the suburbs unlike cows. how they march to work and back home with no sense of individual curiosity, much like the people who use ring devices, biometrics, and so on, they just want to do work and rot at home with no will to ask more
