Give me 1 (one) cool idea for a side project? Most the projects i find all around the internet are lame or just good enough for a total beginner, after you learn you cant keep going.
>home server
I like the concept of cloud computing but already did a few setups and learned a lot. I have zero interest in some netflix clone so after i learned, there was no point in keep going.
>webapp
Had 3 webapp running in the past but tech is the easiest part. You need to come with a digital product to get users and i wouldnt bother with that so i gave up after learning how to setup a fullstack proj in cloud.
>scraping, automation
Thats was pretty fun when i tried, even ran bots to post on image boards, but i never could find a good usecase. I could scrap data from instagram but never found any use for that.
>linux, raspy, arduino
It was cool to play with and learn about how the computer works. But i even had a embbeded job in the past so i know enough. I dont see the point in ricing a linux at home or whatever, theres nothing cool i could do with it. Raspy and arduino too, i dont wanna make some maze robot nor snes emulator.

I would like to play with trading bots and data analysis but i always end up stuck at the point it would cost a lot of money to but api keys.
Im excited about AI applications, although same, costs a lot of money to do properly.

Oh and btw ive been working as a backend for 5 years.
>do something at the job
Not gonna work for free, fuck (((them))).
>think about something YOU would use
I dont need any automation in my life, at job i just create a python script in a couple hours when i need. No need to automate my life outside work.

Scraping is valid there is only one builtwith and wappalyzer and for the most part its just builtwith and they charge and arm and a leg.

why bother? why you need to know the exact stack? just copy the looks and functionality, use the stack you are most familiar with.

there's two reasons people need to know stacks.
1.analytics
2.hacking

I want a bulk renaming tool that takes an arbitrary list of paths and lets me either move or delete them to new paths by editing them in a standard text editor. There are existing things like this but none are very robust and I don't trust them to not fuck up my files

use your own damn brain faggot, making your own project is more about showing your creativity than showing off a bunch of languages you can use

Use the existing program but instead of running at source dir, make a tmp copy of the entire dir and work on that.

Iam creative but all interesting ideas i came with require money or too much time:
>running webapp/digital product
Requires a lot of research, market analysis and then paying for cloud hosting.
>trading bot
Requires a ton of paid APIs, you cannot scrap real time tick from yahoo finance.
>AI
Requires paying cloud or buying hardware.

Currently i am working on an art project that involves tech but it is like 2% coding, 90% market research, execution and 8% AI from cloud. The bulk of work is not on developing but instead market analysis, branding, marketing, advertising. Similar to the time i tried to make free webapps.

Being creative is also about finding the doable solutions. Also, just say "perhaps with more resources we could do x x or y" HR ladies dont care and people will be more willing to overlook the shittyness of your project if all that youre missing is money, the important part is to show that the ONLY thing youre missing is money and not smarts.

Think of a thing you want that you don't have, then make it.

Here's a lame example off the top of my head: I like anime, but I don't want to pay for it (obviously, fuck anime) and I can't keep track of what new stuff comes out each season so I end up watching whatever the most popular slop is according to whatever ukrainian website I find on the piracymegathread.

I kind of want a program that checks/scrapes a bunch of anime rating websites (I don't even know what these are besides IMDB) to find hidden gems, presents me with some pictures + synopsis + scores from multiple websites, and then direct links me to whatever piracy streaming (I'm not torrenting shit, fuck torrents) anime website is currently still working (dunno if it's still the case but they kept being taken down constantly) that day.

This side projects are not supposed to be resume padding, i can straight up lie if thats the case. I want to build things for fun, because i genuinely enjoy programming, didnt go to this path purely because of the money.

Think of a thing you want that you don't have, then make it.
I tried that in the past, see:
>an automated method to given a social media user, search for theirs interests, similar persons, liked pages
This is possible using some paid api for ig but i cannot do for tiktok
>run vidgen, imagen gen locally
Requires upgrading my machine.
>scraper that collects for market analysis, enrich ml models
Again, requires paid APIs. You can do some hacking to selenium prompt you to solve the captchas but fuck that, i dont wanna become a captcha operator.

if money wasnt the problem:
>refinivit, blomberg real time stock data
>program a bunch of shitty trading bots, backtester, logger, machine learning engine
>just spin every component as an ec2 instance
>see what coding AIs can do to maintain the system
>enrich the data using reddit API for sentiment market analysis
This toy would cost hundreds per month in APIs subscriptions.

Basically my cool ideas are always related to big data, cloud and now AI. I dont see the point in playing with open source projects, low level, linux, smart home, home servers and arduinos.
This year i started a side project but it involves only social media and manual market research with small datasets. Theres no coding.

yeah right, there's no escaping the money machine anon, even it it's purely for fun you or someone else will find a way to monetize peoples ideas especially on this site.

But if you really like programming trying to install as many OS as you can in a really old machine is a good way to pass time.
