I recall an article that mentioned a few ways
>facial structure, which can suggest sort of generally whether your family is from Northern vs. Southern India (Southern India is I believe the indicator of a higher caste)
>name, including both your first name and surname; in regards to surname, historically lower-caste Indians wouldn't actually have a family name- when they travel/migrate to other countries and register as citizens they then to pick one, and Singh is a high-caste surname that was often selected in hope of better opportunities and has subsequently become a defacto low-caste signifier
>clothing quality, ie. expensive shit accessed via family wealth or social connections
>personality/attitude, higher castes being generally more confident (backed by a sense of entitlement, not actual knowledge/skill)
>religious jewellery; insofar as the caste system is completely fucked it's enshrined in their creation myth (the Mahabharata) and each caste will have religious affects/totems they carry as part of their faith, which includes Dalits even though they're still ultimately considered India's untouchables and it grants them no social grace
So in the situation of a job interview or something, a hiring manager (generally a Brahmin/Kshatriya/Vaisya) that can't get a feel for whether or not they're supposed to discriminate against you based on your face/name/affect/dress/etc. will try to literally feel you up through your clothes looking for a Dalit necklace or bracelet or whatever
