RTX 50 Super rumors: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: current 9070 prices in the US are too close to the 9070XT's.

Bad one causes HDR content to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Case manufacturers usually list the maximum CPU cooler height and GPU length in the product specifications.
Maybe subtract 3-5mm from those figures to be safe.
Compare that maximum CPU cooler height to the one listed in the cooler’s spec sheet.

Posted this in the previous thread. Work at a thrift store.

Someone dumped a bunch of PC stuff

Scored an amd ryzen 5 2600 + MSI b450m pro max mobo (no ram) and GTX 1660 super

And 3 mice (glorious model 0, some endgame brand mouse and razer dewther adder)

Question, which of those mice is the best

And is that CPU and mobo worth using over my current i7 8700 based build that I scavenged a few months ago (still on a GTX 970)

Or should I just put the 1660super in my current i7 8700 build?

Is it worth putting some money in the amd build?

Stability testing manual memory OC takes a bit of time, expect this to take at least 2 weeks if you're starting from scratch.
You can't just punch in others' memory timings if you want a tight OC.

This guy shared the more reliable 9800X3D + memory OC & stability testing experience, I don't think his Nova board killed the 9800X3D.
Check a few Buildzoid videos and comb through 9800X3D + DDR5 OCing topics in Overclock.net
Do not trust most of their "daily stable" OCs unless they show proof of the system passing a variety of extended stress tests.

https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/103664434/#q103665508

If you want to skip all the tedious bullshit, follow Buildzoid's EZ timing for Ryzen 7000 (leave tRAS @ EXPO or JEDEC values, tighter tRAS shows no benefit).
You can follow Rzyen 7000 memory OC guides because the 9000 series CPUs have the same I/O die (memory controller) & interconnect bottlenecks.
https://www.patreon.com/posts/low-effort-rank-77403831
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS_NeTwjOvY

You OC the memory first before you OC the CPU because the CPU is the component that can check memory errors.
Set lower CPU power limits if you don't want to waste too much power stability testing the memory OC.

Man. Here in Germany the trays cost a few bux more than boxed.

No one buys trays here, it's like getting your GF fucked by someone else before you're allowed to touch her. (overclockers buy 10 to 20 CPUs, bin them all and send back every single one but the best).

Your PSU capacity is fine, 7800X3D sips power (arguably the most power-efficient 8-Core CPU released in the past 5 years).
The CPU and GPU will rarely be running at 100% utilization simultaneously.
I'd argue even a 650W PSU is fine for that system config, but stick with 750W for peace of mind.

Let's say hypothetically, I have a budget of around $1100 to build a better machine compared to my current machine of:
CPU: Intel i5-9400F
GPU: 1060Ti
Mobo: Gigabyte Z390 UD
RAM: 32GB Ripjaws something or other
Monitors: LG 24GN650-B and HP 24mh

Ideally, I'd want to be able to play Dying Light 2 without having the fans spike up in speed (which is what currently happens on Medium). I'm in the US, FWIW.

No luck. be Quiet units here are expensivier and underpowered (650w or lower). Otherwise are of that System Power lineup (aka disposable).
Montech units available are a bit more expensive and not of exactly that model (G5, Titan). Also, they would imply more fares to me (not in the same store).
Thanks for the recommendations anon, but I guess the most feasible PSU to me now is that Asus one. A 10-year warranty must mean something, no?

just do you're config in pcpartpicker and check power draw - it does estimates for you. keep in mind that for cpu and gpu it estimates based on stock values, and 9800x3d can peak like 140-160w depending on your overclocks and thermal headroom.

In serious computing almost all CPU coolers are passive and chassis fans do 100% of the cooling for all components.
They aren't CPU fans because they are cooling everything not just the CPU .
If that fan fails everything would overheat not just the CPU .

Gaming PCs and components aren't built this way since children can't thermal engineer so putting a fans on everything makes up for most oversights.

Hello! I've been considering buying a new GPU (5070 Ti or 9070 XT, leaning towards the latter) as I've been struggling to run the Silent Hill 2 remake. I currently have an i5-10400f, 3060 Ti, 16 GB DDR4, and use a 1440p monitor. I'm unsure if I should also consider upgrading my CPU. At what point does it become evident that my CPU needs to be upgraded? I live near a Micro Center, so I'd probably go with one of their bundles (maybe the 7600x3D or 9800x3D) to pair with one of the aforementioned GPUs. Would I be fine with sticking to my i5-10400f, or is it kinda situational with the games I intend on playing? I don't really use my PC for anything other than web browsing and gaming.

Ya its not really an adequate heat sync .
Fin density is to high for this low airflow setup and it doesn't even fill up to the end of the 2nd slot of thickness.
That said its the biggest 4060 heat sink I can find and I believe the 4060 is the best card for this even though the lowest you can set it is only 90w .

>kit
The closest thing I found is people using a Nh-P1 hacked onto a 4060 and I couldn't even fit the 1st NH-P1 without using a saw so a 2nd would be too much.
I wish someone made a triple slot passive kit with a fuck ton of heat pipes and low fin desnsity but I doubt the market will ever be there for passive consumer GPUs .

An OS, not even games, will never saturate the bandwidth of PCIe 5.0 NVMe. Makes no sense to waste the slot for this. Get a cheaper PCIe 4.0 SSD and put it in a 4.0 slot. Reserve the PCIe 5.0 slot for some IO heavy application that can make good use of it and get a larger SSD in that case, 4 or 8TB if it becomes available.

For example, POST Code LED Readouts like on >>105813480 are extremely useful for troubleshooting issues and used to be found on $150 boards (they cost less than 50 cents to add) but now you are lucky to see them on boards costing $250 leading to posts like >>105813520.

I had to choose between that and the ProArt PA602 (wood edition metal panel) because I wanted a 420 AIO in top mount. The ProArt finally won the competition for my wallet because it has excellent airflow but also full dust filtering and it has wheels in the rear and also the option to install standard office chair castors in place of the rubber feet. And bars on the top sides that allow to lift it more easily. And of course the wood elements that give it a nice touch. It wasn't cheap though.

what mobo will you buy?

Ram; get more than 32gigs of ram, otherwise good choice
Case; case is fine for the price, but a good case will last a literal decade+. Sure, the one you picked is okay and cheap, but why not a nicer one? you have no reason to upgrade from a nice case, the fans die? replace them for peanuts.

Also storage, putting the OS on a top-end M.2 drive is a total meme and will not improve your startup times. I have a nice SSD i put my os on, been using a samsung ssd like it for over 7+ years no problem, i'd be lucky to shave half a second off if i were to have my OS on my brand new 990 pro m.2

Also you need more storage, get a 4TB SSD or additional M.2 or whatever.

Pick a better brand power supply unless the PSU came in a bundle with the case

Njudea? eww, but understandable.

NZXT? they make decent AIOs, but at that price tag? you should be looking at a Phanteks aio, or a TRYX, for ultimate style points. Arctic freezer pro III is the best AIO for price+performance.

Ultrawides in theory are cool (even if I don't like curved screens they now can bend them at user-defined angles with both OLED & LCD). The problem is how they are executed:
http://screen-size.info/
https://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/technology/ppi-calculator.php
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#r=768002160,512002160,512001440,344001440&sort=price&page=1
Going from a 32" 4K panel @ 137 PPI to a 34" 1440p UW @ 110 PPI is a downgrade despite the latter more often than not being more expensive than the former and often they skimp on vertical resolution too with 5120 x 1440 panels instead of 5120 x 2160 at the same or larger sizes. They also tend to nerf the refresh rate on ultrawides too except the most expensive ones.

3x1440p/4K high-refresh 27"/32" panels gives you more resolution and screen real estate for your money.

Looks can be deceiving. Because of how the diagonal panels are angled + high floor of the PSU shroud it's more cramped than another of the same dimensions with a standard layout. They're good for AIO-based builds but awful if you go air-cooled.

Thanks. As a general rule you want TLC NAND and some form of RAM caching (onboard or HMB) for a main drive. If it's on a modern system you might as well go for a PCIe4 bus as well because the price difference, vs. 3.0, is basically non-existent. If your platform is PCIe3 then it doesn't matter; can maybe save a buck or two with a 3.0.

Going by US prices:
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#A=1000000000000,24000000000000&sort=price&c1=di_m2.pcie_40_x4
The cheapest model with those specs and no parts swapping BS is currently the Team MP44L at $58.
