Why can't Linux settle for an audio/video solution that just works?
It can't be that hard - it has worked fine in other operating systems since at least 1995.

it's called OSS

Audio hasn't been a problem on Linux for the last 10 years. Catch up with the times.

i really dont get these threads, if something doesnt work its probably your fault, I did sudo pacman -S pipewire and literally everything works, while on windows you have to install weird trojan jeetware like "virtual cables" and "voicemeeter" to achieve the same native functionality it has, and it still lacks 80% of the other features
Anonymous No.105809103 >>105809515
Why do you keep making these threads one after the other? Why can't you just ask Linux questions in the Linux thread? It's because you're actually just participating in this board's retarded turf war bullshit.

it’s a jay thread, don’t bother. As the pasta says, these threads will only stop when his gray matter paints the walls and ceiling

yeah bro, just install alsa, pulse audio, pipewire, sof-firmware, sof-tools, create a config in /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/sof-... oops, that is now /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/conf.d/ because let's change things after you get it working... We'll move it again to ~/.config/ and break your shit again soon.

I installed linux for the first time this year and the audio just works and I haven't had to do any of that shit you mentioned.

audio literally worked out of the box for me with mint. the only thing that didnt work was my 20 year old webcam that is so old it literally has no drivers available anymore but i dont video call anyone to need it anyway.

Nobody who develops for Linux takes it seriously enough to make it actually function. They want something to bitch about and cause drama rather than making it just work. It’s shit on purpose. When I realized that, my life got a lot easier. I switched from pc and android to all Apple and my life is a lot better because of that decision.

Just use you distro default, why do you need to tinker if it works ootb?
If you want to go from scratch here's the guideline:

- Do i need a basic generalist bitch solution that just werk? Alsa;
- Do i need a system for audio production? Jack;
- I don't fucking know man! Pulseaudio;
- i need more control over over the input/output devices (like compartmentalize application calls for audio devices and other mental masturbations)! Pipewire;

There you go.

What's with all these retards in this website that go out of their way to install Do-it-Yourself poweruser distros like Arch and Gentoo then cry about how everything is too difficult?

I've been on Linux since Ubuntu 8.04 and never had a problem with audio until pulseaudio came around. I've had nothing but problems since then. I miss the days of ALSA like you wouldn't believe. xbindkeys one-liners was such a magically simple way to control audio. It felt like discovering the holy grail coming from windows.

I have to manually switch my audio to headphones when I plug in my headphones, or it keeps playing out of the speakers. Thanks Linux.

Usecase for the computer making decisions for you based on arbitrary assumptions rather than simply doing exactly as your instruct it as a tool should?
