Are these reliable for continuous use? I recently moved to Europe and need a step-down transformer for my fridge which only supports up to 115 volts. the European voltage standard is fucking retarded (230 volts), i can’t use most of my appliances here because they either won’t work or risk overloading and blow up

Don't bring your US trash to the developed world if it can't handle a real electrical grid.
But seriously, get a new fride. I most likely uses too much power for an adapter like this

Look up the max wattage your fridge uses. This adapter looks pretty strong and it might be fine if your appliance is the only one plugged into it. Also look up the fine print on the adapter and see if they specifically forbid large appliances. The pictures on the product are all small, so I have to wonder.

>The pictures on the product are all small
it says is compatible with all American appliances rated at 110-120V, 0-1600W, the only problem i can see is the one in OP doesn’t convert frequency from 50Hz (EU) to 60Hz (US), but I’m not sure how much that actually matters since most American appliances support both 50Hz and 60Hz anyway.

Yes they probably are reliable
When I was a kid my parents moved from a 110v to a 220v region and took all appliances with us, so we had transformers all over the house. Everything always worked fine.

It was 110v 60hz to 220v 60hz though. Yuros use this dumb-ass retarded 50hz frequency. You have to make sure the transformer can deal with that, especially for appliances that use motors/compressors.

Not on average, but inrush currents can be very high when the motor starts.

Also the 50/60Hz thing is a real problem for transformers and motors. At the wrong frequency the magnetic material can saturate and overheat.

i get what you did, packing all shit so you dont need to bother getting news shit or whatever, not the most economical shit, but something is just easier that way
people on /diy/ probably know better
but a 240 to 120 v transformer is something that many old houses have, and many old shit was 120v too, shouldnt be that difficult to get one
now the 50hz vs 60hz... most shit shouldn't be that different, some motors will run on a different speed, not a big deal usually, but you could never be sure
i would oversize the transformers just in case.

also, you could do solar and batteries and a 120v 60hz circuit for your mutt stuff, or even just a battery charger and an inverter if you cannot have solar, so you have the extra advantage that you can charge when electricity is cheap

Half of the country is 50hz and the other half is 60hz. When they were getting their electrical grid started, one city got their equipment from Germany and a different one got theirs from America, and they expanded outward until they met up in the middle (and all hell broke loose presumably)
So they just make everything compatible with both frequencies

a charger + inverter i doubt is more expensive that the equivalent frequency and voltage converter, bc they are kinda the same. given how i guess those are more niche, i would expect them to be way more expensive for a given wattage than the "solar" solution

You're retarded for thinking 230V is retarded. Most of the world uses 220-240V. 110-120V is only used in north-middle America and Japan. 230V can deliver twice as much power for the same current (and wire gsugeu) compared to 115V.
You're better off replacing your appliances if you intend on staying for any significant amount of time. Type E/F plugs are also much safer than Nema.
