I'm the only person in my closest family to even use a computer of any kind. Everyone else has moved primarily to smartphones.

I just bought a new laptop for my dad and I purposely searched for one with Windows 10 so I didn't have to manually downgrade it myself.

"upgrade"
You have no control over background services in Windows 10 either. Translation: You own nothing and you're happy.

Going to have to deal with this on my dad's laptop. It's pretty old, so fucking 11 might just not work on it. Is there some way you can check before attempting the upgrade?

Will people be able to keep using 10 indefinitely with windows defender or some antivirus program? Apparently you also can pay like $30 for another year of support.

My parents don't use a PC, the smartphone is enough for covering their necessities but i have a aunt with an old ass acer laptop with WinXP she can't find reasons to get rid of (despite the fact my uncle gifted her a macbook air long ago). Basically i updated it with legacy update, installed openoffice, supermium and sylpheed and she's super happy with it. If push comes to shove i'll eventually migrate the os to a linux distro like puppy.

I bought my father a thinkcenter with Windows 11, since he is tech-illiterate and doesnt really care. On my new machine I have 10 iot ltsc, but on my daily driver I still have Windows 7 (a.k.a. the best windows release so far).

No, they will just use their laptops until they die and get a new one, that's what they did with their old laptops, used W7 until it died then got new W11 laptops, skipping 8 and 10.
