>What Mobo, get more than 32G ram, more storage, get better PSU brand.

In Australia a lot of the budget pre builds do deals for specific parts so there is limited choice with some parts. Iโ€™ll look into getting a better case though thanks.
I have already purchased regular 4TB storage and have another SSD so I can split OS.
But I hear what youโ€™re saying about it not improving boot times etc. I think itโ€™s just for making sure the dedicated SSD for OS doesnโ€™t get cluttered up with other shit.
What power supply brand would you recommend?
This is the supplier and the build with options to change. https://www.nebulapc.com.au/products/vanguard. (prices AUD)

>Wait for 5080 Super or Get 5070ti
So I get this, I am debating it. Issue is that letโ€™s say itโ€™s releases February 26. It will be scalped and be crazy over priced. And will have to wait another 6 months from release before prices and availability calm down. Correct me if Iโ€™m wrong - just looking at the last release, and they were only 16GB. Maybe to 5070ti would be better, but Iโ€™m struggling to find a decent deal on a 5070ti compared to this. Open to suggestions though.

How would I know if my GDDR6x is dying? I think I fucked up when I opened up my GPU to clean it some months back because one of the thermal pads started disintegrating but I kinda just left it there and put the GPU back together, and when I turned on my PC after that, for a day or so, there were these weird visual artifacts on the screen. But then they just went away and I haven't seen them since. I wasn't sure if the vram was throttling itself or doing something else but when I checked hwinfo nothing looked out of the ordinary. Temps were reasonable and from my memory the clocks were fine. However I read today that GDDR6x can cook itself to death over time. What are the telltale signs?

Is it just possible that Nvidia believed its own hype and outsourced GPU driver development to AI? Because I can't understand this enshitification otherwise. Even with older GPUs: for example, I keep some of my Pascal rigs on 560, because 570 sometimes wouldn't even install properly. Recently I've read that 580 series will remove support for Maxwell/Volta/Pascal, and while it's usually bad news, I'm actually feeling kind of relieved right now.

gddr6x runs really hot which is where those rumors about cooked vram come from but to date, there hasn't been mass death of gddr6x modules or anything like that so it's FUD
as for artifacting, it could be your vram having memory errors from becoming too hot and unstable, or even possibly your gpu actually being fine but it ran a corrupted shader that's caused by an unstable cpu/ram OC (xmp included)

>seat CPU, install RAM, mount motherboard in case
>want to reuse AIO cooler from last build
>put in spacers, start putting on pump head (CPU touching portion)
>feel wetness
>small leak from connector
>can see some small droplets outside of the CPU
>mop them up with q-tip
>leave motherboard out to dry while I run to store to buy new cooler
>3 hours later, return and finish build
>wtf no response when pressing power button
>connections correct
>start disconnecting components one by one to isolate problem
>remove ssd, system briefly powers on and fans twitch, power LED stays on
>down to CPU and cooler
>unseat CPU
>can see more small droplets in socket
>no discoloration
>now leaving components out to dry under a heat lamp
So how fucked am I? I didn't observe any smoke or loud noises during the whole process. Water didn't get on anything else either.

Increasing the power limits is only useful if you have extremely good cooling.
Undervolting with core optimizer/shaper is only worth it if you have the time to put in stability testing.
Clock offset is fairly simple, just make sure you don't get clock stretching.

i am looking thru the AM5 Motherboards Sheet but i'm kinda confused with the MSI mainboards

Don't know why the hell they'd do that even if the degradation is the fault of default motherboard settings in the first place as much as a bad bin having bad clocks at bad power out of the box (Eastern Europe getting worse quality products as usual I guess) but good god even with an open case getting 145W on all cores at 4 GHz with these temps is just unacceptable.

Wondering if that might have factored into worse idle wattages too for the I/O die and whatnot.

This guy always thinks he knows what he's talking about, but he just references random buzzwords.
WDDM is based on DirectX (co-developed with NVIDIA), and 3.2 contains optimizations for virtual GPUs which NVIDIA dominates.

NVIDIA was also the first to release DX12 Ultimate-compatible consumer GPUs.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/explorer/diy-builder/cpu-coolers/x870-vs-x870e-which-chip-you-choose/
from my understanding the only real difference is that the E allows more connectivity e.g. USB or SATA ports and whatever the manufacturer wants with the extra lanes. Best call is probably to read into the manual of each and see e.g. how the M.2 slots are handled regarding lane sharing and so on. the X870 and E usually have the issue that the USB4 lanes are dedicated so some secondary m.2 slots may snatch bandwidth from the GPU reducing it from 16 to 8.

Someone dumped a bunch of PC stuff

Scored an amd ryzen 5 2600 + MSI b450m pro max mobo (no ram) and GTX 1660 super

Is that CPU and mobo worth using over my current i7 8700 based build that I scavenged a few months ago (still on a GTX 970)

Or should I just put the 1660super in my current i7 8700 build?

Is it worth putting some money in the amd build? If so, what should I get for it

X670E is identical to X870E but you will notice there is no successor to x670 on x800 series as non x870e boards only have a single chipset whereas the x670 non e board had dual chipsets and way more lanes also all the x870e boards are extremely expensive for no fucking reason compared to last gen x600 series

5600 / 12400F depending on whichever is cheaper factoring in the motherboard, with a basic 120mm tower cooler and a B550M / B660M board, and 32gb 3200c16
stock cooler and 16gb ram will do if you're really trying to keep it cheap
if you can go for an am5 base that'll be nicer, 7400F / 7500F are especially nice if you can get them for cheap, otherwise 7600(X) and 9600X have dropped significantly in price
avoid the 8400F due to pcie lanes fuckery even if performance is fine

Yeah this is why i had no interest in x800 series (still using asus tuf x670e plus wifi) once i saw the pcie bifurcation bullshit on the x800 series boards and that there was no successor to x670 with the dual chipset and they jacked up all the prices i lost all interest

If you care about upscaling and RT, there's no contest.
No amount of 7900XTX owner coping will change the fact that FSR4 will always run better on AMD's newer cards.

The VRAM fud is pointless btw, the entire industry is moving on to neural textures that require less VRAM.
>Neural Block Texture Compression is a new graphics technique that dramatically reduces memory usage, while maintaining exceptional visual fidelity.

>FSR4 is ML super resolution, and it is built forโ€ฆ as we bring it to market, it will be built for our RDNA 4 architecture.
>RDNA 4 will bring a pretty massive increase in terms of ML [operations] and compute capability in the shader unit itself.
>So it is kind of fine-tuned for RDNA 4.
The truth is FSR4 was optimized for RDNA4โ€™s GPU architecture.
Thatโ€™s why modders canโ€™t completely eliminate the performance penalty when they try to run FSR4 on the 7900 XTX.

the xt-version is more powerful, but it also draws more power. regular 9070 would be also a perfectly valid choice if prices were not fucked-up this much - price difference between them right now makes regular 9070 completely irrelevant and rises the question on why it even exists. the xt-version you can also undervolt/underclock slightly to achieve same power draw as regular 9070.

This shouldn't happen if you've updated the motherboard BIOS to the one with the latest AGESA or Intel firmware version.
ASRock is saying their PBO current settings were degrading Ryzen CPUs, not related to memory/soc voltages.

Your DRAM should be tightly tuned to keep your very expensive CPU busy.
Tuned memory completes read/write operations in fewer clock cycles.

MSI has Memory Extension, ASUS has different XMP/EXPO presets, idk about the rest.

You can drop down to a Gen 4 2TB NVMe drive.
You can get a cheaper motherboard if you don't need USB4.
There are even cheaper boards if you're willing to buy ASRock (must update BIOS before CPU installation).
You can get a cheaper 1200~1300W PSU, drop down to 1000W if you're not planning to get a 5090.

fc's hypothesis was that steves test bench was cucked and could not deliver enough fps but due to driver optimizations he gained more fps due to the driver optimizations, but fc did not gain them due to running a faster system

Dipshit missed out on all the Intel hybrid core Windows optimizations pushed by Intel & MS on Windows 11, literally three full generations worth (Alder, Raptor, & Arrow Lake).
"Disable e-cores for gaming" meme is so old, there are plenty of games that know how to use them effectively to boost performance.
Disabling HT, enabling e-cores, and using these CPUs on W11 generally provides better performance.

It was like recently cs got a patch to fix it, before that it was stuttering due to estrogencores, lol
I would not be suprised if it still introduces problems in random shit

I have not researched it or have cared enough, strong claims since you lose the instant any buggy shit is introduced due to the hybrid cuckery
exactly the same why a 9800x3d just works and dual ccds cuck you
one just works, one you claim works, and not only that but better "generally"
again, strong claims

it still seems that hybrid shit introduces more problems than not, also the hybrid crap works better on new intel cpus since they seem to have solved it with a better scheduler and whatever dog shit

I have seen the ecore meme tested from HUB I think it was in CP2077 before too and it showed gains but other tested it and it showed no gains compared to an ecore off

I still have my doubts the ecores actually add performance at all, especially on older intel cpus before latest gen where they allegedly solved the scheduler fuckery, although it inherently has worse gaming performance so it doesn't matter again
the testing all over is too fucky to be trusted
I have not seen enough evidence of it actually mattering

I literally don't know, good if it works if you don't have to disable 80% of your cpu

I use picrel to store thousands of torrented games for the next half of eternity. It should last until I die. I only start it up every now and then to write at least a dozen of games to it or to copy several archives from it for installation. Most of the time the disk remains unpowered. I modded a switch in the IO panel of my case (ProArt PA604) not to choose front fan speed but to switch power for the disk on/off. This required some soldering but is worth the gained functionality. And it's so silent!

The PSU is unnecessary even if you eventually get a 5080 Super. A 850W for half the price would be enough for a 5070 Ti, 1000W enough for any GPU.
Do you need 64GB of RAM?
Get a PCIe 4.0 SSD instead of 5.0.

literally anything you buy will be gpu-bound because your pc is dinosaur-tech. High capacity PSU's are more stable when power fluctuates and you might not get a random shutdown, if you wanna milk a PSU for a very long time, dont be a jew and buy a low-wattage one.

if you're gonna jew out and buy a substandard build to milk for another 10 years, i suppose a 9700x/7700x with 32/48/64gigs of CL30 6000mhz DDR5 gskill/corsair ram, and a b850 MSI tomahawk will probably do for you.

Anyone know WTF to do when your keyboard won't run at 1000hz and completely random latency?
I'm averaging about 20-100hz. Sometimes it goes to 1000hz. Latency is insane 40ms-260ms.
Bufferbloat is B rated, 21ms download latency.

I've had this issue on my last pc build (with an unstable 14700k) and just built a completely new build minus ram, GPU, peripherals, PSU.
(7800X3D brand new, with a new MSI x870e mpg ti wifi)

Keyboard: Main (Glorious GMMK 2 96%) + patriot viper v765 as a test keyboard. Both same results with latency set to 1/2ms.
Mouse runs at 1000hz no problem (razer viper v2)

Also can anyone upload a pic or let me know their results with keyboard polling rate tester websites? I know theyre junk but I want a baseline for what others are getting too

Why do you advise OLED to entrance tier builds?

I have 7800x3d and 4080, got this at the end of 2023.
Even with this build OLED is little too much, like 70-90% the price of the build. Monitors were always like 10-20% of the PC+monitor combo.

Because the quality of your monitor sets the baseline experience.
You don't need an OLED, but you should at least own an IPS gaming monitor that is known to present accurate SDR colors and have a decent response time.
Your LG monitor's fine in that respect.

People buy OLED because they want better blacks & HDR.

I still use a 3080 for 4K gaming with no issues achieving at least 60 fps. In multiplayer games I can hit 120 fps easily too. Whether that's at native in old games like battlefront 2 which didn't have DLSS or modern games which do have DLSS which makes it even easier to hit good framerates. A 4070 tier card can do 4K60+ gaming easily. I'm currently playing FF7 rebirth (just started it) and I'm running high settings with the resolution scale between DLSS performance and native. I can't even tell any resolution changes but I've so far had a basically locked 60 fps.

Completely depends in the usage case and also the quality of the monitor. There are several things which can make your experience noticeably shit when using OLED like the low fullscreen brightness compared to LCD which isn't ideal for a bright room and also how OLED handles brightness in smaller windows even in HDR which can cause gamma shift and make it look weird when going from a small white window (e.g. notepad) to full screen. OLEDs best usage case is with HDR but HDR on PC is hit or miss.

If you're going to buy an OLED TV then nothing but the high end is worth it. Mini-LED has surpassed the cheap OLED models by having way better brightness and consequently higher color volume, black levels perceptibly the same due to cheap miniLED TVs having thousands of zones now, cheaper etc. I have both an LG OLED and a cheap miniLED TV and the miniLED TV is literally as good or better than the OLED.

That's not the exact problem. Hot air rising is usually used as the rationale for putting exhaust fans high up and intakes below, the standard rear fan is where it is for this reason. To make a blow down work you'd have to rework and custom mod most cases. Even if you were to reverse the fan directions it is just not optimized for getting the hot air away from the case to avoid recirculation.

Even mentioned that he tried to contact Steve for video proof of the FINE WINE driver performance increase, but was ghosted. He speculates that the difference may have been a hardware change instead with NVME DirectStorage being enabled in the newer test.

Reminder that this was the same guy that spent any time at all trying to figure out exactly what bad things Asrock's boards were doing to 9800X3Ds, while AMD Steve #2 was trying his best to sweep the problem under the rug.

it does, you can use radeon chill to cap frame rates on a per game basis

Would it be a good upgrade over an i7 9700, or should I just wait for AM5 shit to get cheaper?

not a super meaningful upgrade, an AM5 would be a much bigger jump

FRTC/Nvidia limiter is garbage as per Blurbusters CEO.

In order of priority it should be: in-game limiter > reflex/antilag limiter > RTSS limiter

>Neural Block Texture Compression is a new graphics technique that dramatically reduces memory usage, while maintaining exceptional visual fidelity.
So everything will look like shit even with AI framegen turned off? Wonderful, I'm just not going to bother with new games.

I buy them on sale these days, unless it's a reasonably priced indie title. There hasn't been a AAA I would pay full price for since RDR2.

You are asking me why Jofoos does disable ecores still, he must think it has some validity
keep in mind he is running 500fps esport games not 70fps
so there must still be some issues due to his behavior
since I have not bought his course and not in his shitscord I have no idea why this is the case

>There is no hearsay when Microsoft and Intel took more time to optimize the Windows scheduler for the hybrid cores that benefitted Alder Lake & Raptor Lake CPUs as well.
This does not guarantee it behaves properly in esports and without issues

again you are trusting your sources

>nvidia wasn't able to replicate the issue
...wait what issue? the one where textures don't load on 8 gb cards or something like that?
I haven't been able to replicate most of what hardware unboxed reports either, according to their testing f1 25 requires like 13 gb of vram for 1080p high settings when in reality you can see for yourself by looking up "gtx 1650 f1 25" that the game works perfectly fine at 1080p high settings even on a 4 gb card, I truly do believe their testing is sometimes faked.
