Because i was aware of the issue before buying and i read somewhere that unless the connector audibly clicks in the socket it's not seated which causes the melting. I had to push with such force that i thought the pcb was about to crack but then it clicked. If i hadn't known that i wouldn't have pushed as hard and it would have melted.

The only way you can believe that is if you don't have a Windows install as a point of comparison. Nvidia on Linux isn't a total bug-ridden mess like it used to be, but gaming performance is still dog shit in relative terms. Vulkan games only see a small performance hit, but anything running on DX12 has a 10-50%+ penalty versus Windows. You're essentially downgrading the card you paid for several performance tiers.

> Are you happy with it?
Mostly. Performance uplift from my 2070 Usper is pretty substantial, but to see full gains I would like to upgrade my CPU from my 3700X.
> Experienced any driver issues lately?
Not necessarily. Sometimes games crash and say I'm too VRAM far above the VRAM limit, even if I'm only using 9GB out of 16.
> Does it have coil whine?
This is the quietest GPU I've ever had. My 9800GT, GTX 660, R9 390, RX 580, and 2070S all ran hot and loud. The 390 and 9800GT were the only ones with coil whine though.

3060ti. Picked up just recently on the cheap, thanks to the massive influx of new 5000 series owners dumping their old gear and driving prices down. Upgraded from a 11 y/o 1070. Honestly I wouldnโ€™t have upgraded at all if not out of necessity as I donโ€™t play PC games anymore. Unfortunately my old card stated flaking out in the one game I do play (pic related) with persistent screen freezes. Thankfully the $150 3060ti fixed the problem. Honestly the absolute state of PC gaming has me completely turned off even opening a PC as a whole. Not even mentioning the grotesque GPU price gouging but things like $750 mobos, and Wintrash 11 cluster fuckery has me wondering why anyone even bothers with this. For console port sloppy seconds at that. Once Win 10 eosโ€™s this fall my next desktop PC is going to be a M4 Mac Mini

Not really, however I only play older titles mostly and some CoD DMZ, which sometimes crashes, but it's more like a game problem than driver.

Every GPU above 200W power consumption has coil whine, it's unavoidable.

>Are you happy with it?
kinda, it's more than enough for the games I play but the whole 8 gb drama is making me anxious for the future, i got it after my rx 580 8 gb died in february (used market is shit here and was one of the few viable options) and i would've gotten a 9060 16 gb for 100โ‚ฌ more instead if that had existed at the time.

>Does it have coil whine?
it had A LOT of coil whine when I first got it, but after a few months of breaking in it's now barely noticeable, fans are way louder than the whine.

>Are you happy with it?
Yeah I'd say so. Got it at MSRP too.
>Experienced any driver issues lately?
Back in May I was finishing up playing Oblivion Remastered, and after a month of playing it with zero problems I decided to update my drivers from launch drivers to 25.5.1 since it's been out for a while and new games were coming out. Apparently AMD broke something out of nowhere to cause blue artifacting in the sky at night for that one specific game (this was apparently a very common problem for other 90 series owners). Solution was just to downgrade drivers.
Now it's July, I'm already done with that game, and I'm on 25.6.1 now. Every other game I've thrown at this GPU from old games, to emulated games, live service slop, and new unoptimized slop runs great, and usage outside of gaming in general the entire time has been flawless.
>Does it have coil whine?
No, but if it ever does then I won't hear it because of the window fan in my room that I use to drown out my tinnitus and keep things cool. Exactly how I treated my GTX 1060 before this lol

Not on linux I had issues on windows because monster hunter wilds is such a broken piece of shit that reflex would crash the game, the issue has been fixed but the game still runs like dog shit and I refuse to play it or buy any more RE engine games. There are 3 cards I use relatively frequently.

>RTX 4090 in my main desktop
I'm very happy with its performance, in fact this is one of the cards I've been happiest with. It's really, really fast and a massive leap from the 3000 series. Haven't heard any coil whine. I have had multiple driver issues this year, NVIDIA really fucked the drivers up, though they're kinda stable again but not entirely.
>RTX 3080 Ti in my home server, used with GPU passthrough
This was never a great card. RTX 3000 kinda sucks, 12GB VRAM isn't great nowadays either, perf boost over the 2000s was small, perf/W is bad and the 4090 feels like double the performance. Didn't have any driver issues but then again I don't use this one for "fancy" use cases like HDR and shit. No coil whine either.
>Radeon R9 380 in my retro emulation system
This PC is built so it can feed a signal (over VGA) into a CRT TV for authentic-looking retro games. This requires Radeon cards basically and the R9 380 is one of the "newest" and fastest compatible cards which still has VGA output and as such avoids the need of an external converter. I bought this card 2nd hand and had to replace its fans (one of them was mangled, pulled off basically), then I had to fucking BIOS mod the thing because Sapphire went full fucking retard on the stock fan curve and the thing was overheating to >85C but the fans were barely spinning. It's fine now with the custom BIOS I put on. I have to use CRTemudriver on Windows but most of the use it gets is on Batocera (Linux) and there were no driver issues there. Like the other cards, no coil whine on this one as well.

I don't think it's really possible for the mobo to interfere with a card's fan RPM sensing. If something was fucked with the PCIe slot then you would almost certainly have more serious problems with the card, or it would not work at all.

Sadly the case for the consoles are dwindling. Console users seem to lack the understanding that if the game runs like shit on PC it also runs like shit on console because they don't understand that 90% of the games they play don't even run at 1080 60fps natively. People are waking up but the truth is capcom is going back to it's old mindset which is why they are going to lose a shit ton of money moving foward. People already rejected the new Doom game because of it's performance and I think monster hunter wilds was the last straw after a long line of shill influencer induced gaslighting and lying from the studio. Capcom is not the only studio that has done this but enough people bought wilds to get that bitter taste in their mouth.

Also if nvidia keeps improving DLSS the way it does the reasons for having a console keeps shrinking. A 3060/ti system still mogs consoles and with DLSS 4 you're basically getting a better upscale experience that those consoles leverage harder than anything else on the market. The old saying is still valid because people who bought a 3060ti system still ended up saving money in the long run counting the console the higher prices and PS+. Even something like a controller shits on sony because you can get really good controllers that are more durable than the DualSense for half it's price. Also your PC can make you money as well as have more uses.

It's physics, I ain't gonna explain shit. The more voltage the GPU gets the more loud the coils are. You may hear the coil less if the fans are blowing like crazy, but the wine is always there. Sure, not every card uses the same transistors and coils, but every card I had so far had coil whine. If you decrease the voltage or load it gets noticeably quieter.

first of all, more powerful gpus don't require "more voltage" than lower end ones so with this it's already clear you have no fucking idea what you are talking about, maybe you meant current.
2. ...you know that glue exists? a coil can't vibrate if it has glue on top of it keeping it steady, picrel is literally the fix, it's common on psus (most psus are full of white glue everywhere) but not on gpus because jews like you have to save a cent

ye it's actually more current not more voltage but still glue can't do shit. depends on the frequency, that shit has to be soaked in sometihng that dampens the ringing. poor quality inductors is my guess.

These .reg files of course also work for Radeon:

Yeah, from room temperature to lukewarm if you got the right GPU with a premium cooling solution. Nothing that would make it age any faster.

the pic i attached is a poor example of coil whine mitigation, there are all sorts of more advanced solutions including covering the whole inductor in rubber
my point still stands, it's not "impossible to fix", literally just cost cutting because doing that (or like you hinted at, using higher quality inductors) would cost 50 cents more per unit and that would make a jew unhappy

AMD RX 6650 XT

>Are you happy with it?
I was on a budget at the time I built it and it was on sale. Not expecting much from a upgraded refresh of an 8gb vram, entry level card from a few years ago. Plus I have a 1080p monitor too. As for games, it has aged well as it surprising can keep up with modern, graphically intense titles (Cyberpunk at 1080p high without FSR for me is 70+ FPS). Every once in a while you do have to compromise with low to mid settings. Any frame rate that isn't lower than 45 is perfectly fine with me. As for AI/programming, its meh at best. While it is improving, ROCm is shit compared to CUDA. Hopefully it keeps improving or AMD adopts oneAPI. As for media, it unfortunately doesn't have hardware encode / decode for AV1. Overall, it's decent especially if you need something cheap. Originally was planning to upgrade this generation to either 9070 or wait for the B770 but I think I'll ride things out and wait for UDNA gpus or Intel Celestial. Hopefully they have VVC decode.

>Experienced any driver issues lately?
One time, I had instabilities issues after an update on Linux (I use Arch btw). Spent a whole day trying to debug the issue by analyzing the error logs in journalctl. I even downgraded the kernel to LTS and was still having issues. Thought that I was experiencing a bug in the amd portion of Linux's drm stack. As it turned out, all I had to do was update my BIOS which I hadn't updated since I bought my motherboard.

>Does it have coil whine?
Never. Even in long and intense workloads.

Some eastern ones have had proper gameplay. But their graphics are usually way worse than western AAA, though, so you still don't need a strong GPU. (except Monster Hunter) Western games are as hopeless as ever after TLoU mindbroke all of them, though. The only fun to play western games are indie ones now.
