Euroscart was the perfect connector
>easy to plug
>easy to fix
>highest VA quality of its time
Why did it have to die? Why did we adopt gay HDMI?

Analog and not HD. But worked perfectly.

It was the best if you never needed to plug it out or move it.

God was it thick and god forbid you wanted to change direction.

Also almost all of them I had were too lose and would fall out and required fiddling with it.

And the TV connectors wore out after a time and becase lose too.

I remember I had to stack like 7 books to hold it at just the right angle so the is correct.

The cheaper connectors, which were common, literally fell apart after some use, and the pins of those were usually loose and you had to wiggle the plug to plug it in. Also it has no RGB in one of the directions.

To add: it was of course still much better than what the americucks got (nothing and then incremental "upgrades" to composite, svideo and so on)

Chink connectors were so disgustingly bad. I remember specifically buying Phillips because those never failed.

It's pretty obvious that OP never used one. Nobody called it "Euroscart" in Europe.
He likely never used analog video either. Zoomer nostalgia I guess.

It can basically carry VGA (with composite sync) so you probably would actually be able to send 1080p over a decently shielded SCART cable.

So that the HDMI cables would break every two years. This is what I'm considering buying, braided and """heavy duty""", we'll see how long it lasts.

The fact that ANY connector could operate as INPUT and OUTPUT was actually so based!

It was just 5 different standards put on one connector and you never really know what the device in front of you actually supported. It was just annoying to use.

Now that I think about it, it's like USB-C

Pretty much any tv with SCART also had RGB, RGB is more or less the native signal of the picture tube - if it takes composite input it has to internally decode that into an RGB signal to drive it. It wasn't a unique feature of high quality tvs.

And also outputting straight RGB is easier to do than outputting a composite signal.
Anonymous No.105837049 [Report]

sure thing buddy.
you either had crappy non-rgb scart cables (the 10 pin version) or the stupid rca to scart adaptors.

I appreciate the commitment, if I can be bothered I'll show you mine.
I think we did have some that were composite, but we also had some rgb ones too
Still though, having the same cable with two completely different video standards supported fucking sucked

Only if you bought $100 cables with individually shielded pins, otherwise you got video crosstalk up the wazoo and buzzing noise in the audio whenever the screen had a high brightness. A common trick in the 80s/90s was to open the plug and disconnect pin 19, the video output pin, this made the cables impossible to use to record from VCRs, but it halved or even completely removed the video crosstalk.

Many HDMI cables are made cheap and the weight of the cable is enough to bend the connector out of the plastic socket. I had to get 90 degree extenders to prevent that (and also to be able to put my AV gear closer to the wall).
