Choice of stimulation on second monitor while programming.
Hello /g/, just a quick question. What brainrot stimulation do you put on your second monitor while programming in this attention grabbing economy? I can't stay at my desk for long periods of time if nothing is playing. (un)fortunately all YouTube channels I like died or turned cringe. General tips for getting into a flow state are also welcome.

I just put some upbeat music. I can't focus on anything if there's visual stimulation while I do work.

Good choice, but I always end up selecting and skipping tracks in my music player instead of actually working.

I'm bored of YouTube, I had it on in the background constantly for what feels like over a decade now. Maybe it's time to learn to appreciate silence again.

Set up something lofi without lyrics. Or EDM if you're in a high energy mood. Minimize distractions (close discord etc) and just focus on your work. Alternatively install a pomodoro timer. Focus on 25 mins of work, then reward yourself by 5 mins of /g/ shitposting.

I have a habit of playing music by album, never through playlists or on shuffle. I pick a handful of albums for a day, then hit play and never look back.

What YouTubers does the /g/entooman watch?
Hard mode: no linux distro reviewers, I genuinely don't care about desktop linux.

>What YouTubers does the /g/entooman watch?
this is sooooooooooo personal and soooo much time dependent that it is useless to ask:
2012-2015 - mainly pop stuff like Filthy Frank and lets plays of tf2 and horror games + Forsen, Pewdiepie all the shit from that time that 99% of people did.
2016-2019 - very watered down nazi content, news, history, some lets plays, tech stuff and pop stuff
2020 - 2023 - a lot less politics, a lot more tech, tech videos now made the vast majority by a huge margin
2023-2025 - everything is so fucking boring that in many ways, if i see one interesting shit from any subject while scrolling i will click on it. Mainly tech but not even tec h i am actually interested in. Literally doomscrolling for something even remotely interesting i will forget in 5 minutes.

with women it is easy: 2012-2025: whatever the fuck the overlords want me to watch - she justs scrolls the short videos and the algorithm picks the next one.

I used to watch youtube and play hearthstone while multiboxing in wow

you may want to ask about 2007-2012 - literally music videos and lets plays + pop stuff if i recall coherently, i remember Kony 2012.

for women back then it was music videos 80% of the time.

That's why I asked lol. It's like all the substance on YouTube just vanished overnight. Better to just quit watching altogether I guess.

also in 2023 - 2025 a new strategy for youtube is used by me: i now have to open videos i find interesting in new tab for later watching so i can cut down on the doomscrolling because i fucking know that if i have nothing to watch i will need to spend 5 minutes searching for a watchable video.
before 2022 this never was a problem.

boomers also watch travel content. i do not know if you like it but i think for male boomers travel content is the most enjoyable thing to watch, while for female boomers it is still shorts.

I despise most tech and programming channels after watching them for years. Travel content is quite comfy actually now that you bring it up. I'm watching it more lately.

well it depends: the most mainstream ones are there to sell you a product. LTT is probably the most well known " I am here to sell you a product, goy " channel together with the black phone reviewer ( MKHD or somethign i forgot the name ). But there are niche channels that go more into details in more specialized fields:

if we are talking about coding, you will never learn to code by watching a video but watching stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIUp8bdKiq4 is information. I know, I know.... /g/ does not like theo and he is a faggot... i fucking know.... but i find the information interesting personal. and I am also a full stack dev, so i ... will watch faggots like this guy. go sue me.

if you are talking about hardware stuff like https://www.youtube.com/@greatscottlab is great. I like many like it and i have little experience with hardware stuff - like just 3 Arduino projects and some Raspberry pi based servers for personal projects.

basically youtube can be good but you have to already have knowledge of the field and be specialized. LTT will teach you nothing.

I don't have a second monitor and I don't want moving shit in my peripheral vision. I can't find the right kind of music so I just sit in silence with my terminal window, just like my forefathers did.

I am quite proficient at C++, so it's hard to find coding content that appeals to me. I watch Theo to stay up to date on webdev, although I don't really practice it a lot myself. Unfortunately most uploads are AI news now. I know of Tsoding and Jblow for lower level programming but they both have insufferable personalities and just scream elitist bullshit all the time. Are there any low level programmers left that aren't completely out of touch and actually ship software?

I don't play video games, nor do I watch movies or television. I don't need mindless distractions in my life. I use one large monitor and split the screen to cross-reference code and documentation.

The code I write requires a lot of high level math and disciplined focus for prolonged periods. It requires intellectual engagement. The Pomodoro Technique helps me with focusing and also to take screen breaks for my eyes and general health.

doc on the right monitor, text editor on the center, terminal to compile/run test on the left, as simple as
I just finished a more than 4 hours programming session at work, no headphone, no music, no coffee, no break, just writing code like a normal person because I'm not a freak (autist or whatever else)
you should seek professional help if you can't concentrate, no amount of technology can help you.

at work i put on second monitor these things
>outlook 2013
>sql server management studio
>notepad++ with opened logs
>visual studio test explorer
>virtualbox with lightweight distribution of linux mint mate with VPN set up to connect to production server
(for some reason this was the easiest way to set up VPN without losing access to both outside internet for google/chatgpt and intranet for email, jira and youtrack)
>git diff view window from visual studio
>secondary browser just for debugging the webapp slop i am paid to upkeep

when i saw my other coworkers they put there
>nothing
>vim
>visual studio solution explorer
>opened PDF or DOC with documentation
>debugger call stack

so as you can see, EMPLOYED people dont have your problem. at home i have only 1 monitor, because lets face it, you dont watch two things at once anyway.
