>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: current 9070 prices in the US are too close to the 9070XT's.
>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.
Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.

Just bought this with Amazon prime day. Is it good?
>>105832025It was a popular OLED monitor during the last holiday season.
The only nitpicky thing is the 16-hour mandatory panel refresh cycle.
But you can always pre-emptively run the protection cycle before an extended session.

I'm leaning towards i9-14900K because it's under $500 and has 24 cores. I've heard threadrippers have bios issues, but I want a lot of cores. The downside of the new i9s is the E-core P-core split. I guess that means proxmox will just assign machines based on needs.

worth building 10th gen Intel boards these days? i've been wanting to upgrade one of my computers since its on an ancient LGA 1155 board, and its giving me a hard time installing linux. nothing i've tried works, and rather than waste more time on It, i've been thinking of upgrading it to the same specs as my other computer, which is 10th gen intal (was the newest at the time i built it).

You'd be better off building on 12th gen or even Arrow Lake trash if you must go intel.
Otherwise go AMD.

Thinking about upgrading to an i9 13900kf and a 5080 Super, depending on how they pan out and if I can knife-fight scalpers. Thoughts, or alternatives?
I have a 360mm AIO and a 850W PSU currently. If I do upgrade would the PSU need replacing?
Best model for the 5070TI? I know I have to avoid gigabyte since they are leaking shit
>>105835738Back in the day you had to be a literal chimp to break anything. We have asiatic crap now. I mean, it was then too, but they were on Western specs. Everything was thick.
You had little screws on the sides of connectors. ALL connectors, except the keyboard. Even the mouse screwed in.
so here i am again with another pcpartpicker build
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/pTj4VF
this bundle would cost 1247,88€
my question would be about the mainboard:
the MSI Pro B850-P wifi and the MSI B850 Gaming plus wifi are only 10 € apart from each other
and i can't see a difference between them
for the case:
i took the Meshify 2 because it can handle rather big GPUs and the installed case fans are good as far as i read on reviews to it
so instead of going for a cheaper case with bad fans that need replacement i thought its better to invest it into a good case from the start
>>105835807Should I get the Logitech G502? I'd use it for gaming and coding
>>105835961just to add to this :
would i run into issues with the vrm with that board and cpu ?

>>105835975Fuck it I just boughted. 28€ seemed good
>>105836072Also boughted a height adjustable desk. I'm hyped bros :)
>>105835882Everyone else is good this generation, no outliers other than Gigabyte with their leaky gel. You're just paying for the cooler and presence of dual BIOS. On that note Zotac does have a worse D-BIOS switch because it's a toggle button rather than a lever, so you can't tell physically what mode it is in.
Do you want standard or SFF? Do you want SFF just to save on money? Do you want to Ventus because you really want to save on money? Those are the standard questions you should ask yourself.
>>105835961>B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI>- PCI_E2 (3x1) and PCI_E4 (3x1) share bandwidth with PCI_E3 (4x4); using either will make PCI_E3 run at x2.The B850-P has no lane sharing problems. Curiously the "WIFI6E" variant of the Gaming Plus seems to have no lane sharing either and different component slots, so I guess it's a revision (gives up one Pcie gen4 x2 slot however!). Double check which model you're looking at.

>>105835994All modern enthusiast boards are overbuilt, there will be no issue. Only risk comes from the ultra budget B840s which you are not looking at.
>>105836124its the wifi 7 version, curiously the price difference is 5€ between both boards now
so now the only difference i see is that the pro version has hdmi 2.1 onboard and the gaming has dp 1.2
>>105836157I've looked at the AM5 mobo sheet again and MSI's official site, they seem almost identical besides the Pro having an HDMI out only while the Gaming Plus Wifi7 has DP only, and the latter has a proprietary MSI fan/rgb connector you can ignore. The video out type is only relevant if you wish to use iGPU or want to troubleshoot a discrete GPU. I would personally go with the Pro since there's no real downside.

laptops are bigly restricted by cooling/heat, but newer stuff is massively more efficient than older things so they run cooler and need less cooling so they can run faster
>>105836632At the margin it depends heavily on the power/cooling budget of the specific laptop. An 8845HS will convincingly beat a (stock) 8700K with its full "54W" power limit but not if it's in some ultrabook with 20W of dissipation.

>>105839716Buying monitors that self-destruct isn't very smart.
I'm worried the M27T6 miniLED might be too bright
1500 sustained full-screen brightness, kek.
How long will those backlights last?
bros do not merge partitions on a live disk, especially without backup...
>>105839925That's peak brightness. HDR1400 only requires 900 sustained. Still a crazy good panel for the price.
>>105840073It's 1500 nits sustained, over 1800 nits peak lmao.
Even Monitor Unboxed Tim says 1200 nits full-screen brightness is too much at a monitor viewing distance, kek.

The same happened to Monitor Unboxed Tim when he was measuring a Display HDR 1400-rated ROG miniLED monitor in 2021.

It's handy to know then that if I buy those displays they aren't just no name junk but actually have some quality
Still undecided on size, but one thing I did want to ask is my monitor is near the window, which means I usually get a lot of glare.
What kind of panels do I need to look out for to mitigate this? What do I need to avoid?
>>105840978You'll be lucky to buy an 18GB 5070 Super for 600€.
NVIDIA's just coming up with more ways to increase their margins.
>>105833828Been really eyeing that KTC monitor since it popped up, but I really would like to try out the KOORUI S2721PM: https://www.koorui.net/productinfo80.html#page3
Unfortunately for me, it's available in Japan and Canada but not here in the US. Anyone think that there will be a US release? Anyone even find decent reviews on this one yet? The KTC monitor at least as a USB port so it can have firmware updates if needed, but the KOORUI is IPS.
No idea which way to go for this one. Any recommendations? Wait or buy?
>>105841040Display panels with a matte surface layer generally reduce glare and reflections better than ones with a glossy finish.
Pretty much all of those IPS monitors have a matte screen.

Save some money for a monitor hood or a desk shade if you can't cover the window with a curtain.
>>105832011 (OP)do (the best selling) cases really differ a lot in how much noise they block?
>>105832070It's kinda cool, I'd only recommend if you're upgrading anyway.
>>105832011 (OP)what's the noise difference between a 120/140/180/200 mm fan, all else being equal?
>>105841210The recommended cases generally have good airflow, but they don't have special noise-dampening features.
It's best to undervolt your CPU & GPU to run them more power efficiently if you want to set up a sound-optimized PC.
>>105841122I think it will perform similarly to the Xiaomi G Pro 27i, maybe it will have a better HDR calibration.
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/xiaomi/g-pro-27i#test_1560
KTC HVA miniLED has a higher HDR contrast ratio in the worst-case test pattern (9x9 patch 5K:1 vs 2K:1), IPS miniLED is an option if you don't want VA smearing.
>>105832011 (OP)WHY THE FUCK IS RTX 4070TI SUPER STILL EXPENSIVE??? AT THAT PRICE I'D JUST GET A 5070TI FUCK YOU NJUDEAAAAA
>>105841300If you want a set amount of airflow, larger fans can run at lower RPM to hit that target.
Fans running at a lower RPM usually generate less noise.
>>105841347TSMC stopped making RTX 40 GPUs last year because NVIDIA needed the production capacity for RTX 50 & other Blackwell chips.
>>105841345>VA smearingThat's really the only reason why I've been waiting for the KOORUI monitor to hit the (lower) North American market. I spend enough time reading articles or typing that I kinda don't want to run in to that issue. It might not be as bad on the KTC monitor since it is newer and relatively faster than older VA panels, but ideally I'd be going for the IPS miniLED monitor.
>>105841177Monitor hood wouldn't work in my setup, I'm really dealing with limited space ha
Thanks for letting me know the IPS monitors have a matte screen.
I've got some really good options and learnt about the brands so I'm happy with that. I wish the KTC H24T09P was in stock. Why would you say the KOORUI is worse btw?
Just mostly have to decide whether to go 24 oro 27 inch. I think before this thread I was set on getting an LG or Lenovo. I have had portable monitors before and there are so many random ass brands I thought monitors were the sme and the likes of KTC KOORUI and whatever were just advertising bullshit specs that weren't as good as the established brands.
>>105841517Someone reviewed two of those monitors and found the KTC has better color accuracy, response times, and higher brightness.

What brands are generally good for RAM? Been seeing a lot of Crucial on sale but I've no idea if they're shit and you can get better by paying a bit more for something else.
>>105841600Brand doesn't matter, most are produced by the same couple companies (Sk Hynix, Samsung, Micron) and don't have any noticeable differences. Just get the cheapest ones/the ones that look the coolest
>>105841600aren't most of them pretty much the same cause the memory itself gets produced by like two companies? I've been using some higher end Corsair for a decade and never had any issues with them but I only picked them cause of the timings.
>>105841600You want to avoid Crucial DDR5 kits if you want better XMP/EXPO speeds & timings for gaming. The difference isn't crazy, but it's there.
It doesn't matter if you're running the memory modules @ JEDEC specs.
>>105841600Crucial (Micron) was good for DDR4 but are by far the weakest for DDR5. They only recently released DDR5-6000 bins but they have weak timings and no headroom. Only really recommended for low-performance PCs that somehow require DDR5.
Just go by speed+timings and sort by price. 6000-30-36-36 on AMD or 6400-32-39-39 on Intel (can go up to 6800 if you like). Those kits will all have chips made by SK Hynix who currently lead in performance.
