i know enough to say they're using zsh, but whether bash 3.x is still available i couldn't say, i could only /assume/ they replaced it, but they could well have kept both
bash 3.x is pretty old at this point, i would be surprised if they spent the effort to keep it working on modern macs, given i know enough about their other practices regarding not supporting apps that are from my perspective not very old at all (32bit and opengl are big ones)

I don't see the reason to have desktop icons. You have a whole filesystem made just for categorizing different files and most people don't even attempt to use it. Pin your most used applications on the taskbar, put your 2nd most used apps on the start menu, everything else goes in it's respective folders.
