I came to realize the only thing of real value in the Linux world is the kernel and the basic userland tools that make the terminal functional. This is because market-driven companies agreed to collaborate on a vendor-neutral substrate, the kernel, as a shared standard. Everything else built on top that serves "retail" is a meme.
Why? Because there is no need to listen to users when no one is paying. That makes most of it irrelevant in the larger scheme. Still, it's impressive how much has been built in spite of that.

FOSS communities attract lots of communists who have lots of skeletons in their closets, the FOSS ideology is perfectly aligned with communist ideologies, so they get attracted to it and infect the random community they set their eyes on, and then proceed to expel everyone who isn't "literally me" ideologically.
This is quite literally why the gnome foundation is probably going under, mastodon is a complete extremist echo chamber and most distros are losing developers and contributors at speed of light, recently debian was asking for help because they can't find people willing to contribute, last time I saw something about this, the plasma maintainer was leaving because he was right wing and they basically bullied him out of the project by psychologically abusing him.
