Pic related is a list of download managers off R*ddit. After trying several, I suspect that none of them are anywhere close to Internet Download Manager (IDM). Of course, the problem is that the latter isn't free and engages in a constant game of cat and mouse with those cracking it after every patch. It's not expensive, but I'd like to have a free alternative available as well. It needs to reach the kinds of speeds that IDM offers or comparable and, most importantly, offer a convenient in-browser one button, or close to it, video grabber (again, with comparable speeds to IDM). Anons keep saying JDownloader 2, but I've struggled even getting it to detect a YouTube video, never mind download it. And yes I know about yt-dlp, that's not the point.

It's not about downloading anything in particular, just about finding a good download manager that works for everything, which in my experience is only IDM.

Correct! Have all my upvotes. Now the information you seek: Chrome comes with a built-in download manager. You don't need any of these old-fashioned tools. But if you really want to, just use aria2 and read the manual to set it up for great speed!

jdownloader has no spirit of resistance. Like megaup fucks with them a little bit and they just quit trying completely to support it. Youtube is the exception, every time I've had trouble downloading from youtube with it, I just had to update the plugin

idk is super easily fingerprinted/throttled on some websites and the devs blocked hls video downloads on purpose. why would you even bother cracking this cuckware in 2025?
