I disconnected the spare parts PC that was running the TV and storage for some renovations, and now the thing won't start at all, like jumping the power pins has no effect, and I'm not really sure how to figure out whats wrong without replacing everything. PSU seems to be working because the board's always on RGB is doing its thing, tried every RAM combination in case one cooked. Any way of figuring out what's dead other than trying every single part with shit out of my nice PC?

I've had my laptop for five years and when I first got it, the sound wasn't playing even after reinstalling drivers. I used KMSauto after re-installing windows on it, but now I wonder if there's any way to retrieve or reinstall the OEM key it was shipped with? Tried some methods from google searches but I am a bit tech illiterate

I pay for claude pro. Claude code is excellent. Not in the sense that it will do your job for you, you still need some braincells and be able to think, but often instead of e.g. spending 5 minutes looking up docs and figuring out a library's API I can just ask claude "do X thing here" and it does it first try. What's more, it often works well even with our own codebase, so instead of jumping across definitions and declarations I can just ask claude. It's excellent at implementing things whose context is all available locally, too, even pretty complex things as long as it doesn't need to remember a vast chunk of your codebase to get it right - e.g. I recently had to parallelise some databse lookups into an async loop with message passing to improve throughput, which would be annoying to think through carefully, but because it was largely confined to one component claude was able to almost one-shot it.
It's basically a nice tool for shortcuts, you need to know what it's good at and what it's not and when it's best to stop it and redirect it into the right direction, but if you use it correctly it's great.

Maybe there is, I'd say more likely than not even. But IMO it's almost certainly not worth the effort, even the effort of looking it up. Whatever the current KMS method is usually works great and there's basically no reason to care about windows keys in this day and age.

I know this might turn off potential replies, but I am trying to do this because infringing upon the rights of a corporation, even one as big and evil as Microsoft, is considered sinful in islam and so I was thinking if I could do right by them or alternativey switch to one of the Linux distros. Normally it should be automated but it does say it sometimes doesn't work right away so you have to log out and back in and stuff. Presumably mine somehow failed hard enough that even logging out and back in and waiting a couple of weeks doesn't help.
I did check spam, my email's on cock.li which I don't believe ever just silently drops mail. (Unless it goes down but I haven't had any issues recently and I emailed a couple of different times, both times I'm pretty sure cockli was functioning perfectly.) The admin could also just fix my account without necessarily having to write back to me.

>have windows license
>reinstall windows
You do you anon but I'm pretty sure this is only an "infringement on their rights" if you're going by a very talmudic definition. Digging out a license key just to make sure it's registered doesn't actually change whether you own the license or not.
You can also just... not activate windows at all. Microsoft explicitly allows that so it's not infringing on their rights, you just have to live with the faint "Activate windows" text in the bottom of your desktop.

There's clearly an issue with my account anon, I'm not so much asking for ideas on fixing it since I'm pretty sure only the catbox admin can do that - I'm mainly asking whether anyone has had luck contacting the admin, since I'm getting radio silence from him.

It means hiro is going insane again trying to combat the schizo spammers
Board? Let me guess /vg/ or something. If it's on a normal board then I dunno.

From the hack leaks we've seen some "trusted" metrics were used on some specific boards to try to combat schizo spammers and evaders, they've obviously probably changed the code since then, but if it's similar in idea then basically don't delete your cookies and ideally don't change your IP for a while and make a few posts. The trusted conditions that we know of were shit like "IP has been seen for at least 30 minutes and has made at least 3 posts", slightly different for the different boards and generals it affected.
Obviously like I said this could be completely different now though.
No idea what email context means.

I have open with add-on for firefox I can pass that to a bash script that do what I want.
Ideally the container should be running, and would listen to incoming URLs, so either CLI utility or webservice.
It's mostly for saving videos from social media feed.
I tried doing it with a script but then I realized I'd be downloading multiple files at the same time with no waiting period, so I'd be throttled or banned.
I'm looking for doing it that way so it would wait for the first URL to finish and proceed to the next.
I hope I'm making myself clear.

Yeah that makes sense. Probably a local webserver makes the most sense, you could also use a socket though.
So you add a port binding to your docker container, have the server inside (e.g. a simple nodejs script) listen to localhost on that port, and your firefox extension makes a call to localhost on that port with the URL as a parameter (GET or POST, your choice). Only difficulty I foresee is extensions having some security or permission thingies preventing them from querying localhost URLs, idk.

Also you can probably still do it with a script, especially if it's a service worker of some sort maybe? Try looking into that. Maybe won't work though. Or if it's all on the same page then you don't even need workers, just an intelligently written userscript.

Natural gas piped to stoves should burn cleanly. If combustion is near-complete, it only produces minuscule amounts of CO which is basically not worth worrying about in the overwhelming majority of cases.
Minuscule but non-zero so it can possibly be dangerous if you completely close your home from ventilation and run your stove for hours on end. But then again in slavic countries some people run gas stoves as makeshift heaters in winter, with all windows obviously closed because it's cold outside, and CO poisonings are not exactly frequent. This should give you an idea of how little is actually emitted.

If you really want peace of mind, CO detectors are cheap and easy to throw on top of a cupboard somewhere and forget until they beep, which they almost certainly never will but that's what peace of mind is for.

It depends once the program starts to scale up. C being hundreds of times faster than Python makes a significant difference when your working with datasets in the millions, billions, or trillions even. But for most simple scripts or coding problems it's a non-issue.

This completely, totally and utterly depends on what you're doing.
If it's a script to automate some small task on your PC, it literally does not matter. You could use a language that's 500,000 times slower and instead of 0.001 millisecond it will take 0.5 seconds and you probably still won't notice it.
If it's something that's not a bottleneck for a program, it matters less - as long as it doesn't become the bottleneck. E.g. a GUI for something like a browser or any slightly heavy application. Your browser will spend 99.9% of its time rendering the webpage and running the javascript, and 0.1% of its time rendering the UI and processing when you click on a different tab or type in the URL bar. So if you make that 20 times slower, the browser as a whole will be 101% as slow as if you write it in the fastest language. Or more likely these will be on different threads anyway, so one thread will be busy rendering and the UI thread will be busy 0.1% of the time, so you can make it 500 times slower and the UI thread will be busy 50% of the time while the browser as a whole won't slow down. (As long as the UI actually remains responsive and doesn't feel laggy, of course.)

And then there's stuff that actually matters because there's just a ton of work to do. When you load a webpage in the browser, it has to parse it, process the HTML, process the CSS, apply all the styling, render everything, process the JS, and start running the JS virtual machine. If a webpage takes 0.3 seconds to load, it feels fast. If the browser was written in a language that's 10 times slower, that same webpage would take 3 seconds to load and render and it'd feel super slow. If instead you use a really slow language that might be 100 times slower or more, you're looking at 30 seconds to load a webpage which is completely unusable.

Stimulants can do that. I don't know why specifically why, other than stimulants change the current neurotransmitters balance, but it happens.

This is probably part of it too. You're taking it when you're in a bad mood so it's ramping up the bad mood.

>Do I need to configure the router for Pi-Hole to work properly?
No? I don't think anyone does it that way. Assuming you meant configuring your router to use the Pi-Hole's DNS service.
Normally you configure your local computers to use Pi-Hole or not.
>Can't I just put the IP address into the computer's DNS settings?
Yes, that's how it's normally done.
>I don't want the Pi-Hole on the whole network, just specific computers.
You can apply firewall locally on the Pi-Hole to only allow specific IPs or MACs. Assuming you want to prevent anyone else from using it.
I guess you are confused about something here. The Pi-Hole doesn't do DHCP advertisements if that's what you are thinking.
>Does it help if said devices will be connected with the Pi-Hole on the same switch?
Help with what? No it doesn't add tinfoil if that's what you are asking.

That's what all the guides I looked up suggest I do. Even when looking up to just do it for specific devices, they seemed to still suggest configuring the router to use the Pi-Hole's DNS service.
>Help with what?
Speeds or something like that. I wasn't going to setup a VPN on it, but some were talking about how you lose ping if you don't go through the router and do it directly to the PC. Doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Tell you to use the Pi-Hole as the parent DNS for the router? Do all routers in the world even allow that? Using a local IP as a parent I mean.
Or are they talking about modifying the DHCP advertisement? Makes more sense to me. Well anyway that's all OPTIONAL, you don't need to do that, its outside the actual functionality of the Pi-Hole.

I just live with some people that think I broke the internet if they stop seeing ads. I'm being serious. So I just want it on my devices instead of network wide which is what the tutorials seemed to want you to do.

>pi-hole is a client of the the router getting it's own address (set a static lease)

???
As far as protecting you from other users retardation, no, your client firewall and OS settings are basically it between you and them, assuming that you're on a run of the mill router without VLANs.

personally, i'd find something that can run openwrt, be it a regular "wifi router", or an rpi or whatever, openwrt will run on tons of stuff. that way you at least know what's running on it, and i would trust openwrt to be more secure than some non-name firmware on a soho router

Stylechan is the currently maintained one, but you will have to remake your mascot in CSS since they removed that feature.
Alternatively, I fixed it in Oneechan by converting my image to a base64 URI string with this site: https://base64.guru/converter/encode/image/webp (outputting as data URI in that dropdown) then in the userscript storage, I modified the "OneeChan.Mascots" variable, replacing the previous url with the "data:img/..." string :)
I did try to just put the data URI in the edit mascot url box but they do some basic format checking so that wouldn't work.

I think so yeah. It's a really weird blocker that's super inconsistent, ublock is just better.
>Canvas Blocker
Depends. It prevents tracking scripts from being able to fingerprint your canvas rendering. uBlock will probably block the majority - if not all - third-party tracking scripts, so usually canvas blocker will be redundant. However, scripts you do allow might still track you, in particular website first-party scripts, so it's not totally useless.
However bear in mind that blocking canvas is itself very unusual; it's not as bad as having a completely unique canvas, but it's still a very interesting data point.
>Decentraleyes
Orthogonal to ublock and useful, though I'm not completely sure how comprehensive it is in this day and age. It locally bundles requests to scripts and JS libraries that would otherwise go to a third-party host, and which are usually necessary for the website to function so you can't just block them with ublock.

Why do subwoofers have insane enormous amps like hundreds of watts or even 1000? They seem to always be limited by cone excursion for low frequencies at like 20 watts. I have a 75 watt rated amp on one of mine and it is easily hitting xmax in movies with the volume knob 1/3rd of the way up. If you actually want to hear the bottom octave (the entire damn point of the things) it seems a huge waste of money that is passed on to the customer just to buy a useless bigger number. How the hell are you going to use those watts unless you have a high pass filter at like 40hz!
And why the hell are there all these 600 watts car audio amps and people are paying hundreds for these? It gets insanely fucking loud inside a car with 100 watts. You're less than a meter away from your sub with hopefully 90db sensitivity + 12 db/octave cabin gain from ~80hz or so giving you easily 120db @ 40hz with 100 watts.
It seems like the entire industry has its products specced completely wrong for people to buy a bigger number on the box, but am I missing something here?

CO doesn't build up generally. It's lighter than air so you need to be constantly producing it or using forced ventilation for it to be an issue. Houses in America have code requirements for a certain level of passive air exchange with the outside which makes it practically impossible. Also most people who have gas actually plan to use it and have a big fan over the stove to vent their high temperature cooking accidents outside.

yes, you could also obfuscate what sites are seen by the admin by using cloudflare warp, this is similar to a VPN in that it encrypts your traffic, so other local hosts can't see what you're connecting to, but it does forward your real IP address so the destination website will know where you're connecting from.

144Hz is a meme, right?
Anime plays at 24 frames a second (I know it's not really, and is animated less, but it is in a container fps that gets played back as such and that's all that matters for this)
Consumer/self shot video plays at 30 or 60 FPS.
Euro shit plays at 25 or 50 FPS.

144Hz lets me watch anime and hollywood shit judder free but is less smooth for 30fps and 60fps content. Also some hollywood shit is 30fps (tv mainly) too so it's not all 24fps
Should I just embrace 120Hz so I don't have to switch my refresh rate between binging shows at 24/30 FPS?
I hate judder but also like smooth mouse movements.
I realize 240Hz is probably the best option but right now I have 144Hz.

if you don't have adaptive sync then you end up having to just change your refreshrate sometimes. 120hz is better for watching videos in common frame rates, but you would still need to switch to occasionally 100hz if you end up watching something in 25 or 50hz. If you're watching using mpc and madvr you can have madvr switch display modes automatically for you but otherwise you probably have to do it manually.
To me it's pretty dubious that 144 is really better than 120 for games and I'd be ok with leaving it at 120, but since I got adaptive sync I enjoy it so much that I would never buy another monitor without it.

Players and full screen and adaptive refresh can be nice but the moment you try watching something in PIP or windowed mode that doesn't work. Yeah I'm happy swapping if I'm watching some euroshit, but I think settling for 120Hz might just be the best.
144Hz is noticeably smoother to me but 120Hz is enough of an improvement over 60Hz that I can live with it. Guess I'll just settle for 120Hz. I suspected 144hz was a meme and everything I see tends to confirm that.

Some people see no issues with 24fps on 60Hz screens and they're a source of "works on my machine" misinformation because it doesn't, they're just accepting judder trash and are unaware of the issue entirely.

If monitors ever get smart enough to refresh pixels individually all of this will become a non-issue but since they refresh in columns/rows and assume the entire damn panel has to refresh at the same time I guess we're doomed to setting for refresh rates that match (or are a multiple of) our content's framerate.
Variable refresh rate only works in full fullcreen so so much for that being our savior.
600Hz when? That would fix everything. Satisfy gamers, be a multiple of 24+25+30+50+60+120.. year 2050 maybe?

>>105867379
You're trolling.
Come back when you can explain how to display a a sequence of alternating black and white frames at a cycle rate of 8 per second when you have a display that can only refresh its panel at 20Hz.

You cannot.
The only thing you can do is duplicate some frames, or try blending some into grey to fit into the 20Hz cycle of the screen.
This is the exact issue that causes judder on 24fps on 60Hz and plagues all 30fps/60fps content on 144hz displays.
Marketing faggots will tell you more=better but the truth is more is only better when it's a doubling or integer multication of the source framerate.

If you can genuinely notice the difference between 144Hz and 120Hz, then I think for you especially investing into 240Hz would definitely be worthwhile. Some people struggle to distinguish between really high refresh rates beyond a certain point, but if you can see a 20% increase, then doubling the refresh will definitely make a big difference for you.

there's at least two TN monitors at 540Hz and one IPS at 500Hz on the market, so not too long now
then a few more years until those monitors actually become good (more than 1080p, proper well-rounded panels rather than prioritising refresh rate above all else, etc.) but I'd say 2030 at the latest, if the market continues as it is now

Really stupid question. I've been often leaving pc in sleep mode for hours, days or even weeks depending for how long I've left home and I could always come back to where I've left it. Recently after coming back it wasn't in the sleep mode I've left it 2 weeks ago, booted normally and I didn't notice anything, surprising, but I've thought maybe the electricity was off for some time. After that a friend of mine asked to co-op split fiction with him and I've noticed that the pc is struggling to recover after we play. The fans get and stay loud like they never did before and if I put it to sleep, the screen dims out quickly but the pc still works for 3-4 minutes (fans spinning, flashing disk leds) and just turns off likely giving up on trying to enter sleep mode. Where should I look for solutions? Is it possible something got burned? Again it boots normally, now I think the fans got louder overall but that's it. Windows 10 LTSC, i7-6700k, RX6600, z170, 2x8GB 3200mhz, out of these I'd maybe suspect gpu.

>See some settings and stuff in the dashboard and can apply settings to it...
Ok this is where I'm at right now.
Right now I don't intend to do fucking ANYTHING with it, I just wanted to get here and have it serve me as an unmanaged switch with DHCP. So far it seems to be working. I did this thinking this will protect me from a drive-by adoption hijacking my switch if someone brings a Ubiquiti server or some shit onto my network.

Does what I've done so far protect me from this or do I need to do more?
Can I close the server app on my computer and leave it as is, knowing people can't hijack (adopt) the switch without either
a) guessing the password
b) factory resetting the switch, then adopting it

???
Any other info that might be helpful let me know. I bought this not realizing it needed some funky setup, my previous switches all had local configs and hosted as their own "server" with the credentials/etc stored and processed on the devices and I've never used anything Ubiquiti before this.

No, currently checking event logs but they just confirm that it couldn't boot due to 0xC0000001, as a direct result of a failed attempt to close system (logs after failed boot say that last close attempt failed to do so properly). Those fail to close system logs appear to happen between 15-30 minutes after it was ordered to sleep.
Also found 0x0000009f - I read it refers to power state transitions timeout/issues which adds, but I have no clue what causes it.

wtf is going on? So these front panel ports I have used to program STM32 "blackpill" boards (basically dirt cheap arduinos) and I these may not play well with USB ports, a few times when disconnecting that board literally every USB device drops connection for like 5 second, maybe that shit fucked up the USB controller for the front panel connector plug? Seems like it could be PD handshake fucking up, I plugged a usb power meter and I see 5v with amperage going up to 400ma before it disconnects. That cable is apparently a PD 40W cable, and I believe the cable itself has some circuitry for PD handshake, maybe that doesn't play well with the motherboard's usb controller.

I'm running a 2700x on a B450 motherboard btw, I know these are notorious for USB issues but I never had problems before using that specific cable.

I had a very close lightning strike which fried my Frontier cable modem, and my router.
Modem wont power on, ac adapter is outputing 12v.
Routers ac adapter is dead. I took the router apart, the dc jack has damaged circuits around it, and there are burn marks on the Ethernet input as well. See attached pic.
I had multiple devices connected to the router, 2 switches, printer, and my main PC.
All those devices are powered on and appear to be working fine, albeit not connected to anything.

How can I test my computers nic? I don't have anything on hand I can plug into it, all my switches are zip tied in place and we'll hidden.

Also, recommended me a new router. I had a tp link c3100. I like tp link and wanna stay with it. I don't need gaymer shit but could go for 2.5g
Budget is $150ish.

See pic related. There are no burn marks on any of the other output ports. Should the rest of my equipment be safe?

Is there a such a thing as a coaxial surge suppressor?

When it comes to whether you should plug headphones directly into PCs, the answer is unfortunately "i don't know it depends." But there is no need to rely on general advice when you can look up the specific specs of your devices.

You should be able to connect to the other devices directly. IDK if your switches have a web interface, but if they do that's what you should try first. If not, you can connect directly to another computer or the printer and try printing something (may require manual ip configuration though)

Here's a moronic OCD setup I want to have, is there anything like the receiver/transmitter paired USB dongles I'm imagining in pink in the middle section here?

Alternatively I hear most tri mode keyboards can connect to two PC's at once via different input methods and switch between them via switch or keybind, is that true? Or would I need to look at specific models? Do any tri-mode keyboards have removable batteries or take normal AA batteries if I'm worried about lithium battery swelling?

Also I only have one pair of pink dongles here, but if I need to buy two, one for the keyboard, one for the mouse, that's fine, I just can't find ANYBODY selling anything like that

I got a tech coming over tomorrow to check. I'll ask him about the coaxial suppressor.
In the meantime I ordered a TP-Link AXE5400. 50% off for prime day, good timing cause I had like 45 minutes left on that sale.

Thanks for showing me that poe suppressor, I'll add it to my list if the tech won't supply one

Probably. Assuming the brick is made to source 30W on one port.

Is there any way to change the black bars you get when playing SD content on an HD screen with media player classic? If not, is there another media player that does have that feature?

I've been watching old Sentai shows and the hard edge of the black bars is causing burning on my OLED. I bought it because I was tired of backlight bleed, but of course the exact kind of media I want to watch on it would cause burn in.

Option 2 seems doable but not practical. Just because you would have to switch the keyboard and mouse independently and it seems tri mode mice like to have a physical switch underneath.

I own a portable keyboard that can be wired+bluetooth and you switch devices through fn + 1/2/3/4 (4th is wired). I think most tri mode keyboards should support that but you have to make sure the wired sends data and is not just for charging.

>Do any tri-mode keyboards have removable batteries or take normal AA batteries if I'm worried about lithium battery swelling?
The point of wired is mostly to recharge lithium batteries. You're really limiting yourself with that concern. I was surprised to find one called Touch Tofu68. Kinda pricey. The user manual suggests you can switch bluetooth/2.4g/wired but I cannot guarantee the wired mode doesn't override wireless.

There are also tri-mode mice but I've never personally used one. Touch sells one with the keyboard I mentioned. There's also the Attack Shark X3 that is cheaper.

- - -

Idk anything about KVM with 2.4ghz dongles. But it got me thinking. Like I mentioned, there may be keyboard/mice where wired mode overrides wireless. So all you really need is some usb dock with a kill switch that "unplugs" or shuts the power of the wired connection so it will automatically default to the wireless connection. The keyboard and mouse should each have their own dongle like normal connected to computer 2. I would look up dual or tri mode keyboards that don't seem to have any manual switch functionality.

I'm curious why you need such a setup though. Like is Computer2 a laptop that you remove often and you don't like having usb cords tethered to it? I'd probably be disappointed if the answer was anything else.

Why? doesn't the KVM switch allow you to switch between sets of outputs all at once? The issue here is just I can't find any way to do wireless outputs from a KVM at all so far

>>105877705
>I'm curious why you need such a setup though. Like is Computer2 a laptop that you remove often and you don't like having usb cords tethered to it? I

Actually, it'd ironically be the opposite of this: Computer 1 would be a laptop I might remove somewhat frequently (but I would use with games, and I want the wired connections on that for the purposes of minimizing latency), and Computer 2 is a second laptop with a dead GPU I might still use for internet browsing and multitasking, and for it I don't care about latency so I'd rather have a wireless connection to minimize desk clutter

Apparently some wireless mice and keyboards are as low latency as physical connections but that seems kinda horseshit to me. I'm also realizing I can probably just use a software solution if latency isn't a concern on computer 2, right? People have programs to control multiple PC's with one set of inputs I think?

you can get wireless KVMs (TX/RX pairs) with usb. However, they're not super small like a usb dongle so is plugging your pc into an reciever really different from just a normal KVM.

Alternatively, There's software to share usb over lan though so you could get a rasberry pi zero to do that.
You can also get "print server" devices that can do a similar thing

First, the latency between MOST wireless vs wired mouse is microscopic. Undetectable to the human eye. We are talking about ~0.3ms difference (receiver, not bluetooth). There are many studies to show this. Here is one

https://www.rtings.com/mouse/tests/control/latency

Second, your poor 3rd world ass is using 2 LAPTOPS. Pretty sure your shitty hardware is going to eclipse whatever mouse "latency" you imagine in your head. You really think a gamer mouse is gonna make you a CounterStrike pro?

This entire setup is stupid and pointless. Fuck you.
