I didn't have to realize this, because I never used VLC. I disliked it the moment I first tried it. I went from MPC-HC to MPV.

You can do that with MPV too though. The only reason to do anything with the configuration files is to make it better and make it look nicer. Seek thumbnails for example is a good feature to add.

I think VLC is every bit as shit if not more so out of the box as MPV is. I know that MPV can be made good through the configuration file, but I've no clue if VLC can be configured to be good since I've never tried to do that. I've only used VLC in its default configuration which is unbearably awful. Just like MPV.

For me it was:
WMP -> VLC -> MPC -> MPC-BE -> MPC-HC
VLC was great back then because you didn't have to use cancer like the realplayer but it's a mediocre player for today's standards.

As in, I went from MPlayer to mplayer2 to MPV, because VLC was always a meme in Linux.
VLC was/is only big among wintards who need protection from the mental limitation of both their systems and their selves. They use reasoning like "it just works" when describing products, not realizing that "working" is supposed to be the most minimal of requirements.
This is why I also identify with the voices that call for dropping winshit support from projects like MPV, because their argument that continually attempting to satisfy retards is not a good idea, is a sound argument.
