For me it’s a Thinkpad.

None, I got a Mini PC because I only work from home and don't need to be mobile. It serves me very well.

what is the upgrade for the 12/13950hx anyway
I see both lenovo and dell are still selling the 13s despite being 2 years old. 14900hx was similar enough but only got marketed for gaming apparently (who needs 24 cores for gaming?). are there going to be xeon laptops again? Is intel qutting this segment/application? amd?
I mean i probably shouldn't care but i dunno you made the thread

A thinkpad that can barely run Teams in a browser and becomes a brick for the entire duration of your compile time.
Anonymous No.105851356 [Report]
I got a thinkpad but it fucking sucks shit. Fans spinning 24/7 and can't handle video chat because of something with the USB dock causing huge amounts of interrupts that bring the whole thing to a crawl. I fucking HATE this piece of shit

How do I get that kind of boring stable job where you don't make a ton of money and there's not much room for advancement but they'll employ you for decades?

I have a real job so I can't use a laptop
I have some dell desktop with a i9 14900, 128GB of ram energy and 4TB of storage power.

My work gave me a MSI 17.3 laptop i9 149000HX, 32gb, 4070 8GB 230w version, and 2 SSD's 1.5TB. It's nice but I use a T14s Gen 4 for most my stuff because I travel a lot.

Every tech job I've ever had gave me at least one macbook. I have 5 of them sitting in my closet because I never bother to send them back once I quit. They're all remotely locked bricks, but I'm still not taking the time to mail them.

they let us choose between an M4 pro macbook with 48gb RAM and a ryzen thinkpad with 16gb RAM, the choice was pretty obvious

It's sad that it has come to this, but nothing remotely competes with MBP for work, more ram or no.

My colleague's ThinkPad P-series sounds like it's aborting a landing when she's using Figma.

Don't think I've ever noticed a fan on mine

It's a choice between the T14 or the X1 Yoga.
Yoga is the premium option. It has a better CPU but the RAM is soldered on so we send out upgraded T14's for people that need a lot.
We also occasionally send out P16s for people that need a decent GPU.
Unless you are a temp or Indian in which case we give you a Surface Go or whatever we pull out of the recycling bin.

They still exist but you need to know someone. I'm working one now. Pay ain't great but it's literally impossible to be fired. One of my co-workers just straight didn't show up for work for almost an entire month and HR just gave him a firm "Don't let this happen again!" Another spends 2 hours a day on smoke break, and another watches YouTube on his computer all day. We order DoorDash on the company credit card sometimes multiple times a week. I'm one of the only three people in the department that actually does work but mostly because I automated 80% of my job with PowerShell and AutoHotkey.
Also even if one of us royally fucks up and breaks something, it's the smooth brains on the help desk that has to deal with the fallout, not us.

Until you realize you choose the one stupid gay retard field where the important software doesn't run on Mac so you need to use Parallels and even then it's a hassle
Anonymous No.105853495 [Report]
Dell laptop for office work, Panasonic Toughbook for field work, we also have a Thinkpad for programming certain hardware since our company's IT department was too stupid to get the programming software working through their deployment system.

Nice thread to share this:
I didn't want to keep 2 laptops with me at all times so I decided to keep the Thinkpad from work as a personal laptop.

The laptop was decent enough for all my daily needs and I could even play some games with it.

I had a plan: Use windows to go with win11, on a high speed portable SSD. I couldn't boot with it because they would keep UEFI options completely locked with a password. So I tried to find a workaround.

I managed to do it, just had to turn the laptop off during boot until the Windows troubleshooting screen would show up. Then I just had to pick the option to troubleshoot through windows usb. The laptop would restart, detect the SSD, and boot right into my windows to go drive.

I kept using that thinkpad like that during all the time I spent in that company without any issues whatsoever.

A Dell laptop with decent specs, running Ubuntu. It has thus far been the most ideal setup when compared with my coworkers running WSL or Silicon Macbooks.
Only issue is that it only has a 512GB drive and I have run out of storage multiple times
