yes, terms for phenomena are filtered through group adoption until eventually one term sticks. this is normal language development as words and names are needed to describe things. people don't use the word "automobile" nearly as often as they do "car" or "truck", and that's because the latter words are determined to be more useful by most people and eventually became the standardized terms. the same thing happens with design movements in the past, such as Memphis design and corporate Memphis design. even things like bauhaus we're retroactively given a term after their invention.

I agree that everyone calling it frutiger aero can come off as a dumb meme, but that's what we've collectively determined it will be called. start calling it aero design or something and if it catches on congratulations you named an entire are movement, but I have a feeling frutiger aero is here to stay as a term.

Aero was skeumorphic icons WITHOUT a standard shape, a majority simple white background with blue labels and dark text, a touch of transparent frosted glass with light rays effects.
