I set out 5 years ago to do this. I can't keep up with all the work that takes to hack around their constant attempts to lock down the PC and their army of paid goons to make it happen. You can't even try to get help on a forum with 5 people total posting on it without them following you around and attempting to socially shame you. I figured out that it's a bit of a lost cause. Since they'd just block all the users of my OS from accessing the internet anyway. You need to build and OS AND a browser. In addition to operating a "foundation/non-profit" to handle the money side of things. Which they just attack through the legal system. They constantly ddos your servers using the same ones they claim are for anti-DDOS purposes as well.

You run all day trying to keep up and they throw up more and more roadblocks. Anyone that's been maintaining their own distro through projects like Gentoo and LFS already knows this. It's so much work to hack around bullshit like the systemd project and it consumes more and more projects every year. Then you have dbus and everything else freedesktop shits out.

Most of lower level userspace in the Linux eco-system is malware now. The kernel is riddled with DRM too. Don't even get me started on the two browser engines.

I don't mean to sound defeatist I'm just trying to make it clear what anyone that attempts doing this is up against. I spent the last several days yelling at my ISP to assign me a new IPv4 address. Since any time I push updates to the stuff I maintain I get flooded by various bad actors no matter where I do it from. At one point the entire IP range my ISP uses was blacklisted from most of the usual places like github, gitlab, the FSF and most everywhere else I need to access. You can say just use VPN/proxy but most of those are already on the blacklists. I need to push from my real IP.

I used to have to swap IP addresses more than 10 times a day because I'm actively attacked due to two projects I made and maintain. The only thing I can figure is they watch me closely through the ISP I use. I'm always dealing with outages as well. Even though my neighbor's service with the same ISP works fine. Provided I'm not using it. Always shits the bed within about 15 minutes if I do.

I know it isn't malware hiding on my local computers. Have audited them all as best I can but I'm sure there is something on them I haven't found hiding in the firmware or BIOS. Any device I buy gets pwned within about 30 minutes of purchasing it.

Good luck finding anyone that'll listen and take you serious though. They'll just say you're a crazy person and most people will believe them. Pretty much everywhere I go someone is always around to demoralize unless we vet each and every person coming into the channel/thread through IRL means. A long time ago, to try to catapult his own career, Lunduke tried to ruin Stallman's life. This was over a decade ago before others started doing it.

He had this weird video podcast called "Linux Action Show" or some shit, where he portrayed himself as a free software supporter and educator, except all he did was attack free software.

In one episode, Stallman said what he has always said for decades. That proprietary developers will have to find a new job if freedom wins.

And as for wayland, good fucking luck getting anything new in there. The package breaks are pretty minor, like symlinking libopencv.so.411 to libopencv.so for a day until the package update pushes. 9/11 times it's because I installed something from the AUR like qimgv which isn't officially supported.
There were more fixes needed when I first started a couple years ago. DKMS packages, default kernel and less systemd dependent services makes things smoother. The biggest thing you notice is how little you use an init system once you leave systemd.
