Anyone else feel like the end of the Internet as we know it is fast approaching?

Everything on the WWW is about to become completely unusable through a combination of AI + jeets + bots. Nothing will be genuine anymore, even here the effects are already being felt.
Increasingly people are clamoring for walls to come up or to completely segregate the internet or to disconnect altogether.

On top of that governments are pushing for internet IDs to access content and want to censor media. The EU in particular has been a huge detriment to the Internet, it has ruined every website with its cookie laws and protections making browsing any site an exhausting experience.

Anyone here thinking of making their own closed-off network with no link to the internet?

I feel like like network systems like that need to use completely different and expressly incompatible protocols of communication so they can't be tainted. Something radically different.

Yet since LLMs and AI gen can be run on your average consumer desktop you need only one bad actor to have the network flooded with AI content.

I think the solution in the long run is to simply disconnect altogether, not use digital networks at all, but real face-to-face human communication.

I want to believe this, but all the parked domain sites over the past decade make me think it's less that the end is near and more that the end has passed and yet we're still here. Google searches were already shit before LLM's became public, for example.

As for communities they just gather on bigger platforms, because of convenience and ease. In the past people needed to create and moderate forums. This, honestly. I know everyone hates it and I hate Google, but their AI results are better than scrolling through those fake AI generated articles. At least with goog you know that it's an AI approximation of the knowledge. Still use Searx on my personal machines though, I only use jewgle at work. It's also nice not having to sit through 3 seconds of picrel just to find out the website doesn't have what you want on it.

I think so too, because during covid people could organise and criticise the government relatively freely, which ultimately limited the extent to which the government could impose control. So that's their agenda, they know they'll need more control next time so they need to do something about the internet. However, internet companies made a lot of money from people working from home. So, when the governments of the world do their next big trick, they want to keep the internet running, but they want to be able to shut down the freedom aspects.

With the amount of turd-world immigration to western countries, even if you blocked off non western countries from the internet, you're still going to have cancer on the internet from said migration. (Although it would be substantially reduced, for awhile)
