I was at a job orientation and at one point they had us put on some vr headsets and do some retarded VR training. Anyway, I wasn't impressed with the headsets. It just felt like whatever I was looking at was through binoculars and it wasn't immersive at all. But those were some shitty meme headsets for corporate bullshit. Is stuff like the meta quest and valve index much better and is there any place where you can demo them?

SteamVR using headsets generally have decent support, most other PCVR headsets rely on jank FOSS software that is barely passable, even if it is quite impressive that small underfunded efforts like this are usable at all.
Unfortunately for freechads, while standalone headsets do seem to work quite decently with streaming (wivrn, alvr, etc.), they are still locked down Androidslop.
Presumably when Deckard releases in 2042 it will be some flavor of standalone, but much more amenable to using other software like the Deck, since Valve historically can barely be fucked to do their own maintenance when they can piggyback instead.

The focal distance of most vr headset is about 2 meters, so if you can see clearly at that distance you don't need anything. Otherwise you buy magnetic correction lenses that snap on the headsets lenses and then you don't need to use your glasses. It's about 50-60 bucks for a pair.

i had an index and it worked fine but i switched to a quest so i dont have to deal with wires, everything works fine and im streaming gameplay over wifi to the headset but you do need another runtime for those headsets i dont remember how i did just read the arch wiki

i think i actually get slightly better performance than i did on windows too
