How difficult is it for a retard such as myself to pick up Linux? I just want to play video games off steam, browse the internet on firefox and have some way to play videos. How difficult is this on Linux compared to windows?

They are both equally difficult for a retard such as yourself. You should pay someone who isn't retarded to set it up for you.

make a bootable usb with a distro iso using balanetcher or rufus, reboot your computer and boot off the usb, go through the installation steps, once installed you can just google "how to install X on whatever distro" and im sure a result will come up

So it's just the set up that's difficult? Once it gets going it should be fine? I can follow a step by step guide to set it up, but I don't want to constantly have to deal with shit breaking, not working, or games running slower.

Linux Mint probably won't break unless you fuck with the system. As long as you're just doing what you would do on windows you'll be fine.

You should really have no problems once all your software is installed and configured how you like, I find my system to be way less fucky than windows. In terms of gaming most games will just work, on the off chance a game has problems theres usually a solution on protondb. Really any problem you could ever face has probably been solved by someone online

The setup isn't difficult. It's no different from installing Windows unless you go full autismo and use Arch or Gentoo.
>>105874596
Don't use Mint. It's great for putting on grandma's old laptop for web browsing and solitaire but you'll need to configure it for gaming. Use Bazzite.

Is there any issue with stuff like Easy anti cheat? I want to play Elden Ring.

Wasn't Valve going to make their own Linux distribution? What's up with that?

Also, are there any issues or hurdles to run minecraft on Linux? It's a Microsoft game and not on steam.

If you're not using Linux in 2025 but you use a desktop PC everyday you're either retarded or underage.

SteamOS is just Arch Linux with a read-only root filesystem, removed package manager, and custom kernel and GPU drivers (mesa) built for the Deck.

I'm not a stickler for Mint anyway, it's just the one I'm most familiar with. It's worked pretty well out of the box for me, though I don't play many graphically intensive games.
From the small amount of distro hopping I've done, most of the ones I've tried seem pretty much the same as Mint installation-wise as long as they come with a desktop environment.

Steam and lutris should already work wonders with gaming.

As for which is more difficult, I genuinely think the idea that linux is more difficult is largely due to the fact that for most people you have to install it yourself whereas windows comes preinstalled on whatever device you purchase. Most people never installed windows once in their life.
As far as usage goes they're both pretty similar desu.

Also arch based distros might be more ideal seeing how valve switched their distro to arch from debian, not to mention that arch will provide you with newer drivers quicker which should be ideal for gaming.
Anyway, I don't have a lot of experience with arch based distros so maybe someone else can give you a more proper recommendation but look into manjaro, endeavour, and cachy.

I think they have a linux distribution, it comes preinstalled on their steam decks. Probably called steamOS or something similar.

I've just used it all my life. All our family computers were Windows and my first and current pc came with Windows 10 on it. Now that I'm trying to build a pc $140 seems like an unnecessary expense. I could just pirate windows I guess, but even then it has issues. Hell this computer let candy crush run in the background by default when I first bought it, I never installed candy crush, it just came that way.

>I think they have a linux distribution, it comes preinstalled on their steam decks. Probably called steamOS or something similar.

I was under the impression it would be coming out for PCs.

libreoffice, plus if you don't mind using google services then google docs should work fine.
I believe microsoft also has a cloud/online version of microsoft office.
Or you can learn latex and use that, if by papers you mean publishing material then might as well learn latex.

ChatGPT is telling me I won't be able to access the online features of Elden Ring on Linux, but that seems wrong seeing as it's on Steam.

Is ChatGPT fucking retarded or am I?

Just use a simple distro like Mint or Ubuntu, you don't even have to use the terminal if you don't want to.
With the release of the Steam Deck, most Steam games will run on Linux just fine because of Valve wanting to promote their portable that runs it.

>for gaming
I will never understand why retards keep recommending debian based distros with 2 yo kernels to people new to linux.
You niggas ever visit the mint and ubuntu forums? most of the complaints are about hardware not working 'cause the drivers aren't in the outdated kernel and the rest of the complaints are about outdated software.

Use an arch based distro or solus instead, OP. Ignore anyone that recommends ubuntu or mint.
