But essentially, those switches have to be pulled out to shift positions, so it should be a very intentional act.
There was a bulletin about possibly faulty switches (on the 737? it is mentioned in the vid but I don't exactly remember) but the Air India 787s weren't checked because it wasn't a high priority bulletin or something.
Down being CUTOFF itself is probably a problem. I think you'd rather down be ON, because up would be a much more intentional movement.

IIRC Korea of all places was the worst for this occurring in the airline industry up until the 90s when they had like five crashes in a year. Which at the time was a fucking ABSURD amount of failures.

they do; elevator brakes are "fail on" (meaning they need some outside input to NOT brake, so if they "fail" they clamp onto the rails and keep it in place) and elevators in general are counter-weighted so they don't move very much or at least don't instantly go into complete freefall if the brakes don't do anything.
