I thought I should dive into high end collector thinkpads, and I bought the rarest type of 701c, a working factory AMD X5 one with the German IBM AMD board in it, not an aftermarket mod. The shell of the 701c is complete trash and it didn’t survive a tear down to clean out battery corrosion. Most of the plastics cracked or failed in some way, and the entire body had rubberized shit that turned into goo. I ended up giving the boards (cleaned of their corrosion) to another person to restore their dead 701c with tolerable plastics.

I tried 192gb of ram which didn’t work because “only good boards will truly support four dimms” and I bought a very average B650 board, why even have four ram slots? Whatever. My 9600x ended up being very unstable even with a normal ram configuration, the 4070ti super had bad coil whine, and it was all overkill anyway because nothing I do needs that type of hardware. I sold it all and bought a 12400f based system for a third of the cost.

So my desktop speakers had this dead zone of noise which was just a lack of bass, I wasn’t looking for window shattering bass, I just wanted the low frequencies filled out. So instead of buying a subwoofer I bought $1000 reference iems and a $500 dac/amp and they sounded really good.
About 10% as good as a $150 subwoofer plugged directly into my powered $200 bookshelf speakers. Which is what I use now, and I sold the iems and dac.

I bought a pure sine wave UPS which takes external lead-acid batteries. The thing shat itself and shut down several times while in use and then finally broke completely after a few years even though it was hardly used (power doesn't go out frequently). Piece of shit device, honestly. I should not have expected differently.

Now I've still got a good, barely used deep-discharge battery but nothing to really use it with, unless I roll the dice on some other crap UPS.

Found it a the thrift store. Thought it might make a nice companion machine instead of pulling out the Thinkpad. Looked up the specs ... I swear I saw i5. Turned out to be Celeron; I guess the first clue should've been the "Intel Inside" sticker not saying anything else.
But the purchase was done. And it is a nice slim machine, so let's make the best of it and max out what I can. Opened it up and found out the 2GB RAM and *32GB* SSD are soldered. Some models can be expanded, but mine has solder pads where the M2 slot would be.

Out $50, but still.

i have a fiio btr13 and the screen gives me a decent middleman audio settings menu for eq and stereo balance. theres also separate 60 level volume and built in track skipper and podcast fast forward. so its just a nice extra. it has usb dac and car mode, so its still usable if the battery des and becomes usb only.

I regret buying a vr gunstock. The one I got requires me to install these big and heavy components in each controller of my valve index, so that I can hold the gunstock. Most games don't need a gunstock, so I remove the thing from my controllers because it makes their weight noticeably uneven and also made me more prone to accidents. But installing and reinstalling that is a pain. And for games that "need" a gunstock, honestly it never gave me much of an advantage.
I paid 200$ for that piece of plastic.

index controllers are shit, buy HTC Vive controllers... i have both and dont use the index controllers, they are too small, it is painful to grip them for more than hour, does not feel like gun, does not feel like saber. The Index controllers you feel like holding a gun or saber, are more heavy so it actually feels like holding a saber in beat saber.

Plus the Valve Index controllers thumb stick starts drifting in a 6-10months of few times per week use...

Index controllers are cool gimmick, but for long time use the HTC Vive controllers are miles better!

I bought intel optane back in like 2016. It came with 32gb of intel optane memory. I thought this was memory because it said memory and only had 32gb of it. Then it didn't post and I found out it was just some retarded nvme too small to even load windows+office suite. Basically completely worthless. During this build I also bought intel and I bought a watercooler. A lot of mistakes were made. But I had redemption with an am4 machine which I have used since 2020 to now having gone from a 3600>5700x and a 1050ti>3060 12gb>9070xt on and can comfortably just wait for am6 gen 2. It has a peerless assassin and a 10tb refurb hdd that cost me $76.

My nigga. I carry a skeleton in my side pocket and a style and minibic in my back. My wallet is a pretty standard trifold, lightly loaded.
My phone is a unihertz jelly star. Little thick, but tiny otherwise, plus it has an IR blaster.
I like being prepared even if I rarely use some of these things. The skeletool gets a lot of use anyway.

I dropped a grand on a Wacom Cintique back in the day.
They're probably great, but the one I had wasn't big enough to be useful for drawing on screen.
I was also on a mac and the driver didn't work well with it. It wouldn't allow me to select a specific area of my screen to display, instead it treated it as its own monitor. Which meant it was clunky af to work in things like PS on it because I'd have to look up at my tools on another screen.
I've used regular drawing tablets for years and found them useful, but a cintique that's too small is expensive and useless.

I also got drunk one night and bought like $800 worth of domain names.
In those, I actually had some really good ones, but a couple years later when money was an issue I dropped all of them.

Lol I bought the Wacom One pen display and I actually thought it wasn't as bad as people said it was.
Sure, it doesn't have all the bell and whistles of a Cintiq since it's a low budget offering, but it's a lot better than the XP-Pen competitor I've used before.
A better bang for your buck would honestly be an old Fujitsu Lifebook T-series laptop or their Thinkpad equivalent. I almost exclusively draw on one of those things now, as there's significantly less latency compared to a separate pen display.
Thinkpads in general have a bit of a meme tax on them though, so it would be easier and cheaper to buy the Lifebook since it's not nearly as well known.

I use mine when I put on a tv show or movie and just run controller games on it. I was playing twilight princess while watching 3 billboards outside ebbing missouri the other day on mine.

Tablet and pen for note taking. Atleast I can use the tablet but pen is useless.
