As someone that wanted to use linux at 12 it's obvious that you have to present it as something that is more fun, more personable, better, more responsive, more controllable, and interesting than windows. which shouldn't be difficult seeing as windows is worse than ever, but you can't really do it directly, going on a speil about it will make them lose interest, they have to come across it themselves. I think the damage she could do to the system would be even smaller if you use a immutable system or something with snapper. Anyways she can do the typical things kids will do with computers and you can have her get used to a good DE which is anything but gnome.
