My daughter signed up for computer extracurriculars and is always asking for a computer now and I will gift her a crappy old laptop I used to use for her summer gift
How could I bond a bit with her teaching her linux? I don't want to over do it and her ending up as a tranny

What practical function do you think knowing riced desktop autism linux will serve for her?

If you mean real linux, get her started specifically on networking, since that might actually get her a job one day

As someone that wanted to use linux at 12 it's obvious that you have to present it as something that is more fun, more personable, better, more responsive, more controllable, and interesting than windows. which shouldn't be difficult seeing as windows is worse than ever, but you can't really do it directly, going on a speil about it will make them lose interest, they have to come across it themselves. Or at the very least, feel like they came across it themself
...
but why is it that this post makes me think you're not serious...

Give her KDE Plasma since it's customisable. Kids love personalising their avatars in games and making a pretty desktop is no different.

He wants a macgyver autist not a materialist whore. Show her how to make due with what she has and she'll never want for anything.

Well the use case for being chaste is to not activate unwanted pregnancy.

Give the little nigga a easy to work with distro like mint or those new meme gaming distros if she plays minecraft. Setup minecraft with her and proceed to show her how to download software on linux using a app store.
I think the damage she could do to the system would be even smaller if you use a immutable system or something with snapper. Anyways she can do the typical things kids will do with computers and you can have her get used to a good DE which is anything but gnome.

you don't
either a child will be inclined or they wont and generally if she is a girl she won't
let her go and do girl things and if you are lucky she will get herself knocked up and you will have a grand child. too much linux and she might end up an autistic virgin that does youtube fetish videos for money

This is a good answer, make it fun. If there's an inkling of interest she'll run with it. Who knows what aspect of the system she'll be interested in. I guess first thing you could do is check with the school/program what OS would primarily be used and go from there. Good luck, have fun!

Many parents want their children to start reading regularly from a young age, but simply telling a child to read rarely works. One of the most successful ways to get a child to read more is for them to see their parents reading. It gives your advice more authenticity if you follow it yourself and it also allows them a glimpse into what it's like to "do Linux stuff". I suggest you start modeling behaviors like programming, editing family videos, or really anything that might catch her eye. The ultimate goal is to teach her basic computer skills through Linux and if she latches onto anything specific to Linux, motivate her to learn more.

The odds are against you, it's hard to make anyone care about Linux in the first place. Good luck

girls shouldn't do linux. Macos is designed for the female mind. Chromeos is acceptable if you are too poor for a mac.

Why is this even a question? Help her install or set up a justwerks distro and then answer questions about how to do what she wants to with it. She's gonna learn Linux if it's the only thing you give her.

Although if she's already taking other computer classes, she may get annoyed that you're giving her a special snowflake computer instead of what she uses at school.
