GrapheneOS is extremely comfy although I don't know if I would be able to daily drive it due to lack of banking apps. However I ran it on my second phone and it was really really good.

I have some questions about Graphene:

1. What "independent" organizations have audited Graphene's code?

2. How are these organizations funded/who is funding them?

3. Which entities are the biggest sponsors of Graphene OS?

The reason why it's Google phones is because you can unlock their bootloader to actually install Graphene. It's not really a conspiracy.

This is what perplexity says:

1. **Independent code audits:** There is no public information in the provided sources confirming that GrapheneOS has been audited by any *independent organizations* specifically for its codebase. The official FAQ and related sources do not list any such audits or organizations involved[7][9][11]. If you require a list of audits or third-party security assessments, it is best to consult the official GrapheneOS website or contact the project directly.

2. **Funding of organizations:** Since no independent audit organizations are publicly listed as having audited GrapheneOS, there is no information about how such organizations would be funded in this context.

3. **Biggest sponsors of GrapheneOS:** GrapheneOS is primarily funded by **donations**, including individual contributors and sponsors via GitHub Sponsors[1]. You can view the current list of sponsors and major donors on their GitHub Sponsors page[1]. There is no indication of large corporate or institutional sponsors dominating the funding; the project is community-supported.

i haven't used a custom android since 4, but i wouldn't recommend. or unlocking bootloader even. i just need a phone that works, and the oem os will work, while custom has loads of bugs. if you need to do anything power user do it on pc.

This is only true if you use some rando's ROM from XDA. Official LineageOS/GrapheneOS is very stable, definitely more so than stock.

Everyone of them can run games. Apps compatibility depends on the requirements of the app, which is almost always if Google Play is installed.
Compare them here: https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm
If you can, I suggest you to go for GrapheneOS.

Must be a vibe worker. You can do all you need to do with banking via their websites. Apps are usually just stand-ins for the website anyway.

This, forced auto updates are the only reason I don't use grapheneos. Graphene could be compromised and then the feds could push an update to compromise your super locked device. With manual updates you can wait to make sure there are no exploits later down the line.

That one is made by a seamonkey schizo even more unstable than GrapheneOS one. Using an old build is fine, but I wouldn't update it in case he implemented some time bomb after having another meltdown. Once he archived github repos "in protest" so what's stopping him from nuking everyone's devices.
