I'd rather buy a couple 128GB USB sticks for a couple of bucks and give them to relatives for the remote case where my house burns down with both my main disk and my backup disks in it

will likely get lost. you will also need to update the data every couple of months or years. doing so (the time spent) will cost you more than what you could earn at a job in that time. it is not worth it

That's ok, nobody ever looks back at these pictures anyway. It's enough that the USB exists even if nobody remembers which drawer it's buried inside

Cheap thumbdrives and SD cards use bottom tier flash chips binned from more expensive SSDs that are rated for lower endurance and will die within 10 years when kept untouched in cold storage
The only way they can even store anything somewhat reliably is with heavy error correction

They delete stuff anyways, I had custom ROMs stored on my GDrive. Mysteriously the ones without the Corona tracking API vanished, only the .zip files after that was added to LineageOS remained.

That's equivalent of interest of $2400 in treasure bonds, before taxes. Do you really want to dedicate $2400 of your savings to have automatic backup of your photos?

You don't need to pay at all, everything you need can be found for free if you know where to look.
And it won't be "personalized", you won't need to share contact or payment information, it won't look for updates if you block it through firewall, and with proper backups it's basically yours forever.
