Apparently scaling from 5000 to 50000 to 5 million on good ol' LAMP isn't so much an issue.

And I'm will to bet scaling to 5 billion on today's hardware with the same setup ain't much of an issue either. Fags just like things to be different.

The website was much simpler. One or more PHP webservers and a thick Database server were more than enough.

This was before "web frameworks" which take 100ms / request before even calling your handler function.

Knowing how to design and segment your services, building a caching tier, setting up federated user databases, sticking your groups of servers behind VIPs, config management.

Also daily reminder that serverless is literally just having someone else run the server and provide the one service you need to you. That's been a thing forever.
