Now there's CrossOver but it's expensive and the Apple Porting Toolkit is there but nowhere close to level of Proton (not that it's supposed to be since it's solely meant to be a toolkit for devs to port their games).

Anyone who recommends an MBA should be shot. I bought one recently and of all the $1k+ laptops I have ever owned it was by far the most physically uncomfortable to use. The poverty-tier netbook I had as a teenager was more pleasant to type on. The GPU performance was also apparently subpar because the desktop felt shitty and stuttery half the time, lag and input latency out the ass like I was using Compiz in 2008. Windows 11 has a fucking React Native UI and feels snappier.
And none of this even touches on the miscellaneous faggotry of MacOS that no one warns you about (or sometimes even fucking lies about).
If you want to buy Apple shit, don't bother unless you're willing to pay for an MBP.

I have a MBP M2 Max and my sister has a MBA M3 and honestly the MBA is much more pleasant to use, it's very light and compact compared to my own laptop. I don't even feel its weight at all when I put it in a backpack. The mac keyboard might feel weird if you are coming from mechanical keyboards though, and I'll admit I am using my own mechanical keyboard if I'm programming for an extended period of time.

MBA has pretty good speakers too (I usually use my airpods for everything admittedly). Anything better than what is on MBA you literally need the extra room inside the chassis like MBP has or you will just get distorted slop noise. I find that putting the volume at 50% is a pretty good spot.

I find the keyboards on macbooks pleasant to use, but I prefer my mechanical keyboard if I am programming for a long time.
