Tiling window managers exist on Linux which can do this automatically. i3 is one of the most common examples.

Red button doesn't close the application...except when it does
Yellow doesn't minimize to the icon, instead it becomes a new entity in the dock
Green doesn't make it maximised, it makes it full screen and hides the dock and title bar
Double clicking fits the window to its contents size, except with certain apps like firefox where it instead maximizes the window
Also the window borders are like 1 pixel wide so good luck hitting them when you want to drag to make them bigger.

Mac OS is a fucking joke from an usability standpoint

I remember when green randomly resized the window (it made sense in some convoluted way to macfags but not to other people)
then they added a fullscreen mode then they turned the green button into the fullscreen... and you can still maximize like its windows by doubleclicking the titlebar... funny shit

It can happen when you update kde while it's running. Next time just stop kde, update and start it again. Windows literally forces you to restart whole OS in such cases. Or just do what is written on your screen, if you like the wrong way.

I dont think I have ever used a Linux DE or WM that had such tiling features, either natively or by a simple extension. To think that apple took 20 something years to add this to OSX is baffling. The have probably only done it due to the fact that "Rectangle" (I almost called it "Square" at first) and other (((apps))) were eating charging money for a feature that sbould be part of the OS, so it got sherlocked.

the semantics are a bit different but usually yes. but cmd+horizontal arrow is the same as fn+horizontal arrow on windows on my logitech keyboard at least.
cmd+vertical keys go to the beginning and end of file, and cmd+opt+left move the window to the screen on the left (or the rightmost if there's none), for example.

Just wait till macOS "invents" a proper alt+tab where you can find all your windows and even different windows of the same app and have small thumbnails of said windows, I bet windows and linux are going to retroactively copy it as soon as macOS invents it.

Seriously, right now the cmd+tab of macOS is worse than windows 1.0.

But this is retarded, why create file system on top of other file system? This data is cached somewhere, cringe filenames can remain there for some time... This is a windows-only feature, because their fs is shit, don't know why KDE added it, maybe specifically for such threads. On Linux you can just use directories and hardlinks.

>Red button doesn't close the application...except when it does
It closes the window, which is exactly what it has always been defined to do. Many Linux WMs have the exact same feature.
The big difference is whether an application can keep going after its last window closes. That's more common on macOS, and rare on Linux (it's totally technically possible).

many applications continue running in the background after you close its window on both linux and windows but you don't have any visual indication of that being the case, other than sometimes the app putting something in the system tray.
the whatsapp native app for example doesn't even do that, it just runs forever in the background without windows telling you that it is.
at least on macos when you quit an app (cmd+q) and the dot under the icon disappears, it quits for real

I literally gave you an example, whatsapp, which is a uwp app installed from the ms store. you can close its window, check that there's nothing in the system tray, open task manager and confirm that it's still there. you need to go into Apps & something in the system settings and click Terminate.
another example is ms edge.
can't speak for linux since it's been years since I've last daily drove it but it's not hard to imagine the same thing also happens if some application chooses to do that

Linux is under GPL, they can't make a propritary fork and developing the whole kernel is too expensive, so they have no choice but to pay devs to do what they need in mainline. While what you wrote indeed has chance to happen, "influence" on GPL product is magnitudes of order less than influence on their proprietary products, so what you even wanted to say with that?

you are right, big corporations always have good intentions. When they invest into technology (which just so happens to be embedded into millions of different devices) it is for the betterment of mankind and not for corporate interest at all. The Linux foundation merely benefits from the kindness of corporations without giving back anything in return.

>Samsung contributes to the mainline Linux kernel by upstreaming drivers and code for their Exynos system-on-chips (SoCs) and devices. This involves cleaning up device-specific code and integrating it into the mainline kernel, allowing for broader support and easier maintenance. Samsung also works on enabling support for their hardware, like the Exynos 9810 SoC, in newer kernel versions.
>Microsoft primarily contributes to the Linux kernel through code focused on improving the performance and functionality of running Linux as a guest operating system on Hyper-V, Microsoft's virtualization platform. This includes developing drivers that enable Linux to better utilize Hyper-V's virtualization features. Additionally, Microsoft contributes to the mainline kernel to support its own open-source projects like WSL and Azure Linux.
And so on. They do it for their own profit, because they can't make a proprietary fork, I can repeat again if you are retarded. They also could make a free fork but contributing to mainline is cheaper for them, they don't need additional devs for regular merging mainline to their fork. You are wrong, they are not sponsoring Linux and developing it because of some conspiracy. From companies on your picture only Microsoft is a competitor of Linux, and they contribute to server features and some shit for wsl. Other companies don't care, they need to use it and they want improvements, that's all. Linux is in datacenters, supercomputers etc, your anime watching machine is not what they care about.
