RTX 50 Super rumors: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

I just installed a new SSD (Samsung 9100 Pro) and now neither it nor my existing boot drive (Intel P4800x) show up in the boot options, although both are identified in the NVMe configuration settings. Both drives show up as boot options if I enable CSM, but then I still can't boot from it. Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?

I finished doing some more troubleshooting and the problem isn't with the 9100, apparently there's a 100mb EFI partition on the otherwise empty 16GB drive I took out to install the 9100, and my computer won't boot without that. How do I fix this short of a reinstall?

My Corsair Voids cracked in half after 5 years of service and are being held together by duct tape.
Any advice one a reasonably priced pair of wireless headphones? When I bought mine from walmart in 2020 they were like $70 but on Amazon when I looked up the Void headset they were damn near $140.
Doesn't have to be corsair, I just don't want chink shit which well fall apart in 6 months.

Anon helping his astronomy telescope program boomer neighbor here. Here are the two parts lists I've come up with (many thanks to anons in the previous thread for helping with this)

Intel build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gYbPTM
AMD build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gjqZ74

I've gone ahead and sent these to him; but I have to give a final input on which one to go with. Previously, some of you said that AMD's IMC is shit and struggles with large amounts of RAM. For cost and complexity's sake, I settled on 2x64GB as frankly the idea of 4X64GB scares me on a deep level. I was aiming for a budget around $4,000; still waiting on a response from him as to whether he's willing to go full nuclear threadripper mayhem and drop $20k on a build. Knowing him, I would assume not.

For those who missed the previous thread, this is the program which he's using for astrophotography
https://pixinsight.com/benchmark/
https://pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html

The GPU would just need to drive a couple of big 4K monitors. Most important is the CPU and RAM, second most important is storage speed, which I believe both those NVME SSDs handle easily. I think the builds are 95% finalized.

Depends on the case. Usually they are all mesh from all sides so you can have as many fans or dual rads as you want. I usually leave the side open and use no case fans at all, works good.
Thats an old pic, it looks more cramped than it has to be because i forced an mATX mobo and ATX psu into an ITX case. Had to actually cut the bottom with an angle grinder. You can see the mATX board sticking out.
Newer, even smaller NCASE M2 build that doesn't require any cutting:

AMD build.
get the 420rad for the AIO not the 360, for normal usage the 360 is plenty, but he's gonna be running that pc at high load for extended periods of time, and the bigger AIO is needed for better perf long-term. The top-end Phanteks glacier and Lian-li AIOs are better at cooling than Arctic freezer aswell, they're just much more expensive.

Get a small 500gig m.2 for the OS, keep the 4TB, but also add a physical drive, one of those 12 or 20 TB ones for mass-storage, WD Black only. I have the same case, i know they come with 1 physical HDD slot, its fine.
Also, as much of an anti-Njudea hater i am, you really need to be suggesting one of their 5090s for this build. A 5080 just doesn't have the vram.

In both pics, the front is the only side that has no mesh, so the psu had to be the way it is. Also, those 750W corsairs can put out about 300W in passive mode, and thats about what i pull even under load. The CPU blows to the back and that just goes out sideways on its own. There are no case fans. The first pic has one but that was just some testing.

5600 is about 100$ and its the last gen on AM4. Going below that will only net 20-30$ savings. With 6 cores rendering videos will take longer, but if you aren't a pro, just wait and do something else while it renders.

I would check the warranty on that EVGA PSU; it might be limited to 2~3 years because EVGA is winding down their business.
The warranty is long enough to deal with a defective unit (bathtub curve), but other brands offer 5~12 year warranties.

This is an alternative PSU I would consider if you want a unit with a longer warranty (10 years). FSP is a reliable OEM.
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/qv3mP6/fsp-group-hydro-g-pro-750-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-hg2-750

Hopefully, you've avoided the early batch of Gigabyte RX 9000 video cards with problematic thermal gels.
Don't vertically mount that video card to play it safe.

Thanks anon, much appreciated. I was torn as to whether the 5080 would be enough, my neighbor thinks the GPU is not as important for this rig but I'll pass this on to him.

I will also gather the SSDs and find a big platter drive for him. My rig currently has a 16TB seagate enterprise drive which took a lot of finicky setup to run right, I'm sure the WD Blacks will be more user friendly.

I also didn't know about that Gigabyte GPU issue. Thanks for the heads up. That card is actually my second pick anyways. I'm hoping that an ASRock 9070 Challenger card is available at a decent price when I pull the trigger on ordering everything. That's my first pick for a GPU.

They made 10 years' worth of profit during a single COVID-19 lockdown year, so the owner decided it's time to cash out.
NVIDIA was also leaving less margin for the board partners, which is part of the reason why it's hard to find an RTX 50 series card priced near MSRP.

Does a 4k monitor really need to be 32 inches? Because I'm on a 27 inch one and I already often feel like it's fucking massive.

Also, on the topic of monitors, text on OLED apparently sucks when not on 4k. Has that changed yet?

Nyo
Once you find a comfortable position for a given size of monitor, buying a larger one just means you will move it backwards to match the same FOV. There is literally no point.

Now the question is are 27" 4Ks less expensive than 32" 4Ks? It never made sense to me that when dealing with so many individual components the smaller and thus more electronically cramped screen is cheaper to make than the larger one.

It's a personal preference, I would go 32" for 4K.

Not really because the subpixel layouts haven't changed.
Your eyes get used to the text fringing, but the adjustment period could take anywhere from a few weeks or longer.

It's not that it's cheaper, but rather that it is easier to convince people to spend more money on a bigger screen, so the prices of bigger monitors get jacked up.

I may have applied way (way) too much paste trying to make a butter spread all over a Zen5 IHS. It's been working "fine" for about a month now, but I do wonder how much or little better it could be if I spread an extremely thin layer instead. The mounting pressure (AIO, typical springed screws) is max so it should have squished it completely, but I also know how viscous paste can be and how it can keep a really defined and thick layer together. Should I really open the thing up and redo it or just leave it as-is?

Some stress tests and ultra heavy shader compile will hit 90s, but generally 60s or thereabouts under normal normal gaming loads. The ramp up time from idle 45-50 to Tjmax 95 is about 3-4 seconds ish, though that's partially from lowering the fan curve as I've had it hover around 90 during colder nights and jet-engine fan speeds before. The temp ramp up does not noticeably bounce on reaching equilibrium so I guess it's working fine?

That is the most general generic request ever.

Buy things that are recent at the power level you seek, unless a moderately-used or slightly-older item appears at a big discount in your area. Non-AAA but not minimum spec? A class 60 GPU will do. 5060 or 5060 Ti or 9060 XT, the "regular" 9060 isn't out yet. Minimum spec? 5050. For the CPU, try for a 9600 / 9600x, but a 7600x will still do if the price is much cheaper. Consider a micro ATX because they are often cheaper due to being a smaller product compared to full ATX.

Is i5-14400F sufficient for 1080p gaming compared to something like 12700KF, 13700KF or 14700KF? I want to pair it up with RTX 5070 or something like that.

In my experience when you have to squeeze performance out with overclocking, usually your platform is already too old and in need of upgrade. 14400F is 150 euros and I can keep my DDR4 so it is very appealing compared to AMD, cheapest X3D chip is like 370 euros here, motherboards are more expensive and it makes no sense to keep DDR4. So that's an easy +300-400 euros between everything, compared to 14th gen Intel.

Barking up wrong tree. It depends entirely on how CPU bound an application is. But if you're an Intel bagholder with those price prisons then it may be your only choice if the current CPU is causing problems by being too old. The next product step up has a big price increase.

It's not worth buying into AMD AM4 (DDR4) now. I have no idea about Euro prices. The min buy in is really AM5 7600x or 9600x now. Which is not a bad spec really, that class of CPU will last you a damn long time. But you are going to be paying for CPU, motherboard and new RAM. It's all about keeping the current system going or spending money for the future.

Hey guys, I made a list of components about 7 months ago but have postponed building my new PC until now. Wanted to ask if this build still looks alright for mostly multi tasking and very light gaming. The build is supposed to last me another 7-10 years like my previous one: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/tvrkrM

Additionally, my uncle needs a new PC too, mostly for work, so a bit of multi tasking with 2 monitors. I chose a slightly cheaper PSU that should still work fine imo, and changed the SN770 2TB to a 1TB. Huge HDD is also unnecessary for him. Other than that however, is there even a point in choosing a cheaper CPU? 190โ‚ฌ for a 9600X shouldn't be too much, even if it's likely stronger than what he needs. He obviously doesn't need a beefy GPU though. Which GeForce card is good and cheap? What about the motherboard? I believe it was recommended to me here https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/FsDLgn

Thanks for taking a look at it.
I heard there's not much of a difference between 9600X and 7700. The 7700 has better multitasking due to more cores, while the 9600X is more efficient. Or is there another reason you prefer the 7700?
What's your reason for going for the MSI mainboard though, simply because it's B850?
Thanks a bunch for pointing out the 5000 series is out, would've accidentally bought the old 4000 without noticing, and it's a whole lot cheaper too. I see there's a MSI Ventus 5060TI for even cheaper at 437โ‚ฌ though. Any reason to go for the Gainward?

Ryzen 9000 is honestly a huge disappointment in performance uplift. The extra 2 cores on the 7700 will help you much more than the 10% performance difference between Ryzen 9000 and 7000 would

Asrock has been disastrous these last 6 months with them being correlated with high sudden death rate of Ryzen 9000 CPUs. Thankfully the tomahawk is even better than the SL in terms of features and has a better bios.

No particular reason for the gainward other than it having 3 fans and being one of the cheapest. Also msi's rtx5000 ventus lineup is pretty bad this time around

Okay, consulting with SPL PSU tier list, those are options available to me:

>Cooler Master MWE Gold V2 750W
B+ tier, looks to be best fit

>Seasonic Focus Gold 750W
A-tier, but must not be older than 2018

>ASUS TUF-Gaming-750B
B-tier but no details about testing

>Be Quiet! BN329 System Power 10 750W (Gold)
B-tier, not modular

I guess I will go physically check out Seasonic, and if it's older than 2018 - then get Cooler Master MWE. Thoughts?

elements of the arctic AIOs are hard to install, but components of them are also very convenient and easy to mess around with, and easier than the competition too. They're not much harder than installing an aircooler imo, i installed my first AIO, a 360arctic freezer III, a few months back, it was okay.

Is Arctic M.2 Pro SSD cooler any good? I got one for free from Arctic support because my MB included SSD cooler blocks the Arctic LF3 AIO. I watched they yt installation manual and it seems difficult to pull off the SSD, they even scratched that cooler in the video trying to disassemble it, plenty of comments under the video that is horrible design and someone claimed it damaged their SSD. I wonder if I should use it or buy some other SSD cooler from Thermalright or whatever

all ssd coolers are the same design. just two sheets of aluminum or copper sandwiching your drive. what matters more is that the pads arent too thick because drives have different pcb component layouts.

Any type of dual mode panel needs to be able to address the whole panel regardless of resolution.
Unless LG is doing some weird black magic, that panel at 720p/720hz is still has to be addressed at 1440p/720hz.

depends on the case cause mine is "white" as well with black parts but it's not really 100% white to be fair. If it really bothers you this much get a new case and cooler while you're at it and then just move the parts while selling the old ones used. GPU I wouldn't bother unless it's for performance.

Is there any chance I don't need to upgrade my computer to play downloaded 4k HDR movies and I should just try upgrading to the latest version of windows 11 clean install and maybe it will work better/right? I heard 10 has issues with HDR. Thank you.

fans are so cheap and come in packs you might as well stack your PC with them plus it might seem counterintuitive but more fans = less noise and dust since they can blow at a lower rpm. It really just depends on the setup and case in particular.

I pretty much just wirelessly connect to my NAS for a huge library. I just thought that it would eventually run HDR well when I actually decided to try it. It runs 4k 60hz SDR fine.

A barebones new build with 11 would be fine too I guess under $1k. I could test it, but it's my main TV and don't want it down for days.

Is HDR still shit hard to configure and set up for Windows? I keep seeing new releases with it more and more and think I am missing out since I have a less than one year old HDR10+ Samsung TV attatched to it now.

For some reason my eyes kept bleeding out and I couldn't figure out reason why, so I just went back to win7. Years later I went for win10 for VR & audio features and it was completely fine. In a year or two win11 will mature and quirts will be solved, officially or unofficially by users.

Taking the sticker off would help, also unify the rgb there are too many clashing colors. Why is only one of the ram sticks lit up? It does look like shit but I think it could be salvaged by just changing the lighting.

I... just want to see HDR movies right. Literally the only reason I'd upgrade if I need to. I just play movies I download on my home theater and watch TV in browser.

Anyways, I'll check back in if I find out I need to build a new computer. Heading to /fwt/. Thanks and hopefully I won't be back.

It's the default lighting which changes randomly. The other memory stick merely happened to be dark the second I took the picture. I didn't bother installing any software to manage the lighting cause it's ASUS and Armoury Crate can go to hell. I also don't want some unnecessary services to sit on the CPU the whole time. The glass has a foil applied to it and the sticker is part of it. I haven't removed it since I think it's a nice protection against scratches even if it might not look as clean.

but before buying, I wanted to know if anyone here has tried something similar.

DDR memory modules are designed to work best in pairs.
The 1x module set up is for cheapass OEMs or troubleshooting.
You'll find out when you benchmark a 3x DIMM config vs 2 or 4.

Aren't there usually two SSD slots where one is faster and the other one is slower?
Wouldn't you be better off putting a huge storage on the faster one and use it for all things (OS, games) rather than splitting them both?

In my experience, physically separating OS and applications, including games, is always better.
>Aren't there usually two SSD slots where one is faster and the other one is slower?
You do not need that fast of an SSD for OS, 200gb 2025 games loading hundreds of gigabytes of textures from storage, that's where speed matters more.

There's no stupid questions general up right now so I'm asking here

I'm using a 1440p 16in laptop, this is my first larger then 1080p display. By default windows scaling was set to 150% or some shit, which sized everything right, but led to obviously things being a bit blurry, so I set it down to 100%

However, that makes everything too small, and I figured I could just set say 150% text size in the accessibility settings... which fixes the text to be find, but that is ALSO scaling images in web browsers too (at least when opened a their own url), not just text, and that doesn't scale shit like the windows taskbar or UI elements

How do I scale text and have properly sized UI elements for a relatively small 1440p, that doesn't actually cause blurry upscaling and leaves images at their native size when you're trying to view them at fullsize?

Also, even if it didn't do that, that wouldn't resolve the windows taskbar and other elements being too small when windows scaling is set to 100%, and the fact that using that at a higher % also scales images up, which I don't want

I want something that scales or resizes text and menus, but leaves images when intended to be viewed at their native resolution at a 1:1 native resolution on your screen
