RTX 50 Super rumors: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

I just installed a new SSD (Samsung 9100 Pro) and now neither it nor my existing boot drive (Intel P4800x) show up in the boot options, although both are identified in the NVMe configuration settings. Both drives show up as boot options if I enable CSM, but then I still can't boot from it. Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?

I finished doing some more troubleshooting and the problem isn't with the 9100, apparently there's a 100mb EFI partition on the otherwise empty 16GB drive I took out to install the 9100, and my computer won't boot without that. How do I fix this short of a reinstall?

Anon helping his astronomy telescope program boomer neighbor here. Here are the two parts lists I've come up with (many thanks to anons in the previous thread for helping with this)

Intel build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gYbPTM
AMD build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gjqZ74

I've gone ahead and sent these to him; but I have to give a final input on which one to go with. Previously, some of you said that AMD's IMC is shit and struggles with large amounts of RAM. For cost and complexity's sake, I settled on 2x64GB as frankly the idea of 4X64GB scares me on a deep level. I was aiming for a budget around $4,000; still waiting on a response from him as to whether he's willing to go full nuclear threadripper mayhem and drop $20k on a build. Knowing him, I would assume not.

For those who missed the previous thread, this is the program which he's using for astrophotography
https://pixinsight.com/benchmark/
https://pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html

The GPU would just need to drive a couple of big 4K monitors. Most important is the CPU and RAM, second most important is storage speed, which I believe both those NVME SSDs handle easily. I think the builds are 95% finalized.

Depends on the case. Usually they are all mesh from all sides so you can have as many fans or dual rads as you want. I usually leave the side open and use no case fans at all, works good.
Thats an old pic, it looks more cramped than it has to be because i forced an mATX mobo and ATX psu into an ITX case. Had to actually cut the bottom with an angle grinder. You can see the mATX board sticking out.
Newer, even smaller NCASE M2 build that doesn't require any cutting:

get the 420rad for the AIO not the 360, for normal usage the 360 is plenty, but he's gonna be running that pc at high load for extended periods of time, and the bigger AIO is needed for better perf long-term. The top-end Phanteks glacier and Lian-li AIOs are better at cooling than Arctic freezer aswell, they're just much more expensive.

Get a small 500gig m.2 for the OS, keep the 4TB, but also add a physical drive, one of those 12 or 20 TB ones for mass-storage, WD Black only. I have the same case, i know they come with 1 physical HDD slot, its fine.
Also, as much of an anti-Njudea hater i am, you really need to be suggesting one of their 5090s for this build. A 5080 just doesn't have the vram.

Anonymous No.105909764 [Report]
>>105909639
In both pics, the front is the only side that has no mesh, so the psu had to be the way it is. Also, those 750W corsairs can put out about 300W in passive mode, and thats about what i pull even under load. The CPU blows to the back and that just goes out sideways on its own. There are no case fans. The first pic has one but that was just some testing.

I would check the warranty on that EVGA PSU; it might be limited to 2~3 years because EVGA is winding down their business.
The warranty is long enough to deal with a defective unit (bathtub curve), but other brands offer 5~12 year warranties.

This is an alternative PSU I would consider if you want a unit with a longer warranty (10 years). FSP is a reliable OEM.

I will also gather the SSDs and find a big platter drive for him. My rig currently has a 16TB seagate enterprise drive which took a lot of finicky setup to run right, I'm sure the WD Blacks will be more user friendly.

NVIDIA was also leaving less margin for the board partners, which is part of the reason why it's hard to find an RTX 50 series card priced near MSRP.

Once you find a comfortable position for a given size of monitor, buying a larger one just means you will move it backwards to match the same FOV. There is literally no point.

Now the question is are 27" 4Ks less expensive than 32" 4Ks? It never made sense to me that when dealing with so many individual components the smaller and thus more electronically cramped screen is cheaper to make than the larger one.

I may have applied way (way) too much paste trying to make a butter spread all over a Zen5 IHS. It's been working "fine" for about a month now, but I do wonder how much or little better it could be if I spread an extremely thin layer instead. The mounting pressure (AIO, typical springed screws) is max so it should have squished it completely, but I also know how viscous paste can be and how it can keep a really defined and thick layer together. Should I really open the thing up and redo it or just leave it as-is?

Some stress tests and ultra heavy shader compile will hit 90s, but generally 60s or thereabouts under normal normal gaming loads. The ramp up time from idle 45-50 to Tjmax 95 is about 3-4 seconds ish, though that's partially from lowering the fan curve as I've had it hover around 90 during colder nights and jet-engine fan speeds before. The temp ramp up does not noticeably bounce on reaching equilibrium so I guess it's working fine?

What's the most bang for the buck used PC I can build that runs recent non-AAA games at an okay frame rate?

A friend of mine is low on cash right now and has a 750ti and even some recent indie games don't run on that machine. I want to gift him a better Mainboard/GPU/GPU combo that lets him play newer games until he has cash for more.

Ideal, but optional: Mainboard should have a TPM so he can run win11

look for used 8th/9th gen intel at minimum. preferably an i5 with at least 6c/6t
if you can afford to spend more, a ryzen 5600 with a b450/b550 motherboard and 32gb of ddr4-3200 ram will be a lot better

That is the most general generic request ever.

Buy things that are recent at the power level you seek, unless a moderately-used or slightly-older item appears at a big discount in your area. Non-AAA but not minimum spec? A class 60 GPU will do. 5060 or 5060 Ti or 9060 XT, the "regular" 9060 isn't out yet. Minimum spec? 5050. For the CPU, try for a 9600 / 9600x, but a 7600x will still do if the price is much cheaper. Consider a micro ATX because they are often cheaper due to being a smaller product compared to full ATX.

Is i5-14400F sufficient for 1080p gaming compared to something like 12700KF, 13700KF or 14700KF? I want to pair it up with RTX 5070 or something like that.

In my experience when you have to squeeze performance out with overclocking, usually your platform is already too old and in need of upgrade. 14400F is 150 euros and I can keep my DDR4 so it is very appealing compared to AMD, cheapest X3D chip is like 370 euros here, motherboards are more expensive and it makes no sense to keep DDR4. So that's an easy +300-400 euros between everything, compared to 14th gen Intel.

Hey guys, I made a list of components about 7 months ago but have postponed building my new PC until now. Wanted to ask if this build still looks alright for mostly multi tasking and very light gaming. The build is supposed to last me another 7-10 years like my previous one: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/tvrkrM

Additionally, my uncle needs a new PC too, mostly for work, so a bit of multi tasking with 2 monitors. I chose a slightly cheaper PSU that should still work fine imo, and changed the SN770 2TB to a 1TB. Huge HDD is also unnecessary for him. Other than that however, is there even a point in choosing a cheaper CPU? 190€ for a 9600X shouldn't be too much, even if it's likely stronger than what he needs. He obviously doesn't need a beefy GPU though. Which GeForce card is good and cheap? What about the motherboard? I believe it was recommended to me here https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/FsDLgn

AMD doesn't play that shit, B850 boards allow CPU & memory OCing.

no it’s just that I actually want a decent amount of RAM this time (16GB isn’t enough anymore), and I was eyeing that Kingston 32GB one since it was on sale ($55)—that’s pretty much the only reason I’m even considering buying it

but before buying, I wanted to know if anyone here has tried something similar.

I'll tell you that I tried plugging 8 8 8 and this shit didn't work on z270. Just add 2 more 8gb modules, 32 gb is more than enough for win10+ modern games and entertainment. If you need it for workstation tasks, consider replacing kits entirely.

DDR memory modules are designed to work best in pairs.
The 1x module set up is for cheapass OEMs or troubleshooting.
You'll find out when you benchmark a 3x DIMM config vs 2 or 4.

Aren't there usually two SSD slots where one is faster and the other one is slower?
Wouldn't you be better off putting a huge storage on the faster one and use it for all things (OS, games) rather than splitting them both?
Anonymous No.105919498 [Report]
>>105919478
In my experience, physically separating OS and applications, including games, is always better.
>Aren't there usually two SSD slots where one is faster and the other one is slower?
You do not need that fast of an SSD for OS, 200gb 2025 games loading hundreds of gigabytes of textures from storage, that's where speed matters more.

There's no stupid questions general up right now so I'm asking here

I'm using a 1440p 16in laptop, this is my first larger then 1080p display. By default windows scaling was set to 150% or some shit, which sized everything right, but led to obviously things being a bit blurry, so I set it down to 100%

However, that makes everything too small, and I figured I could just set say 150% text size in the accessibility settings... which fixes the text to be find, but that is ALSO scaling images in web browsers too (at least when opened a their own url), not just text, and that doesn't scale shit like the windows taskbar or UI elements

How do I scale text and have properly sized UI elements for a relatively small 1440p, that doesn't actually cause blurry upscaling and leaves images at their native size when you're trying to view them at fullsize?

Also, even if it didn't do that, that wouldn't resolve the windows taskbar and other elements being too small when windows scaling is set to 100%, and the fact that using that at a higher % also scales images up, which I don't want

I want something that scales or resizes text and menus, but leaves images when intended to be viewed at their native resolution at a 1:1 native resolution on your screen
