Any good place to sell old PC parts? R*ddit r/hardwareswap seems popular, but they have account age reqs which are probably impossible to get since r*ddit will auto-b& accounts for no reason now. eBay is an option but I'd like to avoid it as much as possible.

NVIDIA doesn't do price drops unless it's a big mistake like the $1200 4080.
Even though that wasn't an official price drop, NVIDIA just stopped producing the OG 4080.

Should I get used 3090 16gb for 550 EUR or 3090 Ti 24gb for 800 EUR for my i7 7700K?

Or do I bite the bullet and do a modest upgrade centered around i5 14400F & RTX 5070? I can reuse DDR4, SSD, cooler etc. to save money. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LPL3GJ
The used 3000 are installed in home PCs of respective sellers so I doubt they were abused hard.

I have the money for like ~2300EUR Ryzen 7 7800X3D & 5070 Ti upgrade, but I plan to continue gaming on 1080p 60hz so it doesn't seem to be worth it.

I was planning to use 3 on the bottom and 3 mounted vertically, and I also got the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III for the top.
I guess Iโ€™ll just have to flip them and hide the logo if I still want to use them as intake?

I mean if I had to pick between a 14900k and a 7800x3d at the same price id pick the 7800x3d but both sound overkill for the kinda build you want. The 14900k does suck a lot of power and properly undervolting it is a real hassle, its only worth it if you find a deal.

You should think about getting a better monitor oneday they've really come a long way since 1080p tn/ips slop.

I'm open to the idea of buying AMD GPU. In fact, until my current GTX 1060 I had cards like R9 270, 6850, 4870, 4850 etc. I changed coolers on them, overclocked them, it was lovely.

But for example in Cyberpunk, what is the shit that I'm hearing that I need to install mods to get equivalent analogues to Nvidia DLSS & FG? Is ray tracing for AMD GPU not supported natively yet?

Thanks for clarification. I did not mean path tracing, just ray tracing and upscaler to compensate for low frames. I gave up on path tracing (overdrive) since only unobtaniums like 4090/5090 seem to run it reliably.

I'm not seeing 9070 XT being faster than 5070 Ti at RT Ultra in youtube tests at least. The cost the same here and if I need to install separate shit into my game to get upscaler functionality to boost frames, I will just go with camp green.

I also used LLM and want to get back into it again, last time I checked only Nvidia with CUDA drivers can run them.

Bottleneck how? I'm fine at bottleneck over 100fps, I'm only expecting comfortable 60fps.

Yes better CPUs can get 20%+ out of 5070 but do I really need them on 1080p?

They go absolutely apoplectic if you even suggest buying AMD anything since they think it's making their precious moneyline go down. 4070 SUPER Ti are unicorns at 800-900 EUR.
There are no 4080 on the market at all.
Even 3090/3090Ti are rare at around 500-800 EUR used.
There is no middle ground between ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฌ ๐—ฎnd ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฌ here, nothing is ๐—ฎv๐—ฎil๐—ฎble.

So yeah, 5070 is going to be bottlenecked by i5-14400F. But there's nothing NVIDIA sells here that I can buy cheaper than 5070.

The 14400F build is like 1100 Euros with 5070.
The i9 14900K build would be 2300 Euros, which would be fine, but I am not sure that I need it for 1080p 60hz.
Ryzen 7 7800X3D would also be around 2300 Euros but again, I am not sure I need this level of performance for 1080p 60hz.

I would LIKE to have NVIDIA GPU that is between 3060 and 5070 in price and performance, but there are none for sale here.
I checked amazon & ebay too, same prices with delivery and tariffs.

If that were true you wouldnt need to constantly pretend that amd doesn't exist and that the only choice whenever anyone wants advice about gpus is Njudea, stop lying, its pathetic. Its especially obvious when 99% of the shill posts displaying Njudean 'superiority' are memetracing-ultra scores, a feature 95% of gamers simply never use.

You need LLM/AI/3Drendering/editing? sure, use-case is obvious, but outside of that in most scenarios AMD is the better choice and by far the more ethical, if you believe otherwise, you're the one spreading obvious lies.

>>105921018
>>105919882
there will be no discernable price drop. This has repeated itself many times in history for Njudea in the last ~6 years, they deliberately structure their launches so that they suddenly run out of supply worldwide with little warning, you will be unable to source almost any Njudea gpus for up to ~1 month before the launch of the next one. You might see XYZ gpus discounted a bit, for a short period of time, but that will be just before all stock runs out and will be a per-distributer basis, not a genuine discount from Njudea themselves.

Amd does this aswell, sometimes, but its a case of supply issues to begin with. Strangely enough it hasnt happened with the 9000 series, they've been releasing the 7900xtx consistently post-9000 launch, which is strange as there's no reason to buy one outside of VRAM as opposed to a 9070xt, which is often cheaper ironically.

RT & DLSS weren't developed to set AMD back; NVIDIA's workstation customers needed hardware-accelerated RT performance.
NVIDIA developed RTX & DLSS for gamers to make use of that existing hardware, as they don't waste money designing a dedicated gaming GPU.
This is how UDNA is going to be designed for Radeon.

The industry is in agreement regarding RT anyway. Even Nintendo is patenting RT rendering.

The last time I built a PC was like five ish years ago and I've been thinking about doing a new full build recently. Since then I've gotten really into Blender/3D graphics in general as a hobby and (very small) side hustle.
I know that Blender generally plays well with Nvidia GPUs but other than that I don't really know what I should be looking for when it comes to hardware. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to look for in a rig for 3D motion graphics/general creative work type stuff? Not really interested in video game performance.
I'll probably sell my current complete setup (2070, Ryzen 5 3600, 16gb ram) and would like to shoot for the $1200 - $1500 range on a whole new build. Not asking for anybody to put a full list together (but if you want to or have something that fits what I'm looking for please feel free to share), just want to know what to look for in a GPU/CPU mostly. I'm in America. Thank you :)

Then you probably want intel since they offer very good multicore performance outside of games. Intel core ultra 7 265Ks are going for nothing now so you should consider getting that.
Other than that, a modern Nvidia GPU with 16gb or more vram will work well. So, 4060ti 16gb would be ideal. If it's too pricy, the 3060 12gb should do fine too

I've spent the last two years dreaming and planning my build. Hundreds of hours on this general and at some point I started to wonder what was the point of it all.
I tell myself I'm going to play all these games I couldn't but will I really? I can barely find motivation to play the ones I can now.
Also even though I've done so much research into building I just don't feel anything anymore. Part of me wants to just not think about it and buy some shitty prebuilt and keep playing the same games I've been playing. It's hard to justify spending a used car amount of money on a tiny box that I'll probably fuck up somehow.
I think I've researched myself into a corner and don't know how to find the joy I had when I first began dreaming about it.

you've been procrastinating for 2 YEARS over an upgrade? why? just fucking build it, the 9000 series X3D chips are great, there's reasonable supply of both Njudean and AMD gpus, which all perform well enough, if you don't mind the Njudean driver bugfests atm, what was stopping you?

Imagine WASTING YEARS of your LIFE, just to plan an upgrade? if my car exploded tomorrow, i'd go and buy a new/used one within a week or two, i wouldnt lease a car for 2 years hunting around for a 'deal', that'd be fucking stupid wouldn't it? No, if i need a new car, i go and get one, simple as. Theres an argument to wait for the 'next' gen when you wish to upgrade near the end of the current, but not 2 YEARS, thats insane.

there's no point in complaining about gpu prices outside of niche scenarios like the 5000+9000 series launch when both Njudea and AMD lied about msrp, there never was, consumer demand is trumped by corporate demand, read the post, understand the intent, figure it out.

You whining about the impossible, and strawmanning the polite rebuttal to your manchild demands, does nothing. There will always be a % reserved for mega-corp profit margins, but the price rises were inevitable.

TSMC is making multiple, multi-BILLION dollar factories, each individual one requires an estimated DECADE or more of construction. Who pays for those investments? their consumers do, which is us, and every server farm on the planet. The demand for high-quality silicon has only increased and increased, and the use-cases for them has only increased, stop whining, figure it out, stop bitching, and go buy a used gpu.

If you want to talk about pricing, go to hardware unboxed's dollar-per-frame videos and make your choices on that.

>>105921933
im not aware of any super-great deals on pc hardware during sales, its usually the low-quality high failure-rate parts that get "discounted" anyway. You would probably snag a good monitor though.

the process to make it is onerous and complicated, there is no recycling of silicon, and im starting to suspect companies like TSMC will start treating it like the JEWelry companies treat diamonds, monopolising the source material to drive up profits. Feel free to source funds and make your own billion-dollar startup silicon formation factory, and undercut TSMC's silicon suppliers if you think you can do it cheaper.

But if my worst-case does happen, we'll get raped on pricing and it wont even be intel-avivs, Njudea or amd's fault.

you seem to keep missing the point deliberately. I'll try spelling it out a third time, but if you don't figure it out this time, please stop posting forever.

Njudea engage in all sorts of bullshit anti-consumer practices yes. But most of that is related to their effective monopolization tactics over the last ~decade or so, they're only really overpricing their shit by like ~30% outside of the flagship gpus, suppressing their competition with underhanded tactics, and abusing their monopoly with deliberate supply shortages are just as grave offences.
That doesn't account for the nearly-equally dramatic price increases in amd's gpus though, nor Intel-avivs gpus, even though they're desperate for marketshare, and are definitely much cheaper than their competition, but they're still hundreds of dollars.

Then there's the price increases with cpus and high-end ram, again, Intel-aviv is cheap currently, because they're desperate to retain what marketshare they still have after getting btfo by amd for the last ~7years. None of these price increases are solely explanable by just the tech corps jewing us. The other reasons are as listed, in my original post here >>105921888

There's a dozen+ factors as to why gpus, and cpus, and ram prices keep scaling up. High inflation alone is like ~5-10% of it.

It can be overwhelming, but if you can build one yourself you'll save money and feel accomplished. Its really not that difficult - the hardest thing most of the time is applying the CPU cooler properly, much of the rest is following instructions bit by bit.
>Prebuilt? Microcenter has a better alternative
If you have a Microcenter near you (assuming you're in the US) or if you know of any boutique independent computer shops/system builders (there used to be more, but they still exist) if you don't have the time and/or really don't want to buildit yourself.. you can go to Microcenter and basically pay them to assemble it. This way you can pick all of the components (I think they'll only install things they sell but I could be wrong, in either case , they sell a reasonable amount) and have them either do all or part of the install for you.

The $250 could go towards something else if you build it yourself, sure. Just keep in mind that on average buying a good prebuilt (ie one using all retail parts, even down to things like motherboards , cases, power supplies etc.. where you know the exact mode.) will cost way more than that, so having Microcenter assemble is in the middle on the value scale.

how's this for a starter budget PC?
Motherboard: Asrock A520M HDV
CPU: Ryzen 3 3300X
Cooler: ID-Cooling SE-214-XT Basic
GPU: RX 580/GTX 1060 6gb
RAM: 16 gigabytes Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhz
SSD: Adata Legend 710 512gb
Sata SSD: Adata SU650 512gb for my autistic hobbies and files
PSU: Aqirys Pulsar LS 550W 80+
Case: Aqiys Bellatrix Pro, it has 3 included fans, one exhaust two intake, so I'll use a fan splitter for the front ones.

No RGB because I don't need it. I'll use this PC for light gaming and browsing the internets. Is it worth getting 32gb of ram instead?

Nobody wanted to be a Radeon bagholder. That was simply the reasonable position to have coming off RDNA3. Even with positive reviews you just wouldn't know for sure, and by the time it was confirmed there wasn't horrible hidden drawbacks those people may have already boughted or set a plan in stone for an Nvidia card. Only the subsegment of AMD users that were brand cultists would have jumped straight into RDNA4 without looking. They came out of it okay but it was not an acceptable risk for the average person. The risk has been mitigated but again those people who held off may have already moved on with an Nvidia product or decided to stay put.

UDNA1 will be where this has a chance to recover, but technically speaking it is yet again another hard risk. What if their merging of RDNA and CDNA into one arch proves to be a disaster? That is not something AMD Radeon can afford. They will probably try their best to not screw it up (hence only midrange cards this generation) but everyone already knows how AMD never fails to miss an opportunity...

GTX 10xx is end of life, driver support has stopped. You may assemble such a thing with all-last generation low-end parts but just know that it will be very restricted in upgrades going forward, especially with that motherboard. Does it even have the power supply for a 5600x? 8x2GB will do, no point spending money on 32GB of DDR4 which is being phased out of production. You are going to have to define "light gaming" otherwise we can't tell you if it is going to hold up.

The overarching consideration is price. Some of those components look weird but if you're getting a good (used) price on it it doesn't matter.
Comments:
>A520
Tend to be pretty cut down vs. higher-end B450 models. You do get PCIe4 but no card in your budget would benefit from it.
>3300X
There was never any stock of these so they might be overpriced. By contrast, 3600s were sold by the million and flooded the used market when people upgraded to X3Ds. Would even be worth another $10-20 to get 6 cores. Look around for the later AM4 chips as well: 5500, 4500, 5600T, and so forth.
>Video card
Very old now so good chance of failure and won't be receiving driver updates. Again fine if you're getting a good price but watch out for more recent cards going for trivially more.
>SSDs
Probably cheaper to buy 1TB. Plus you'd get HMB over the whole capacity instead of having half of it be slow-ass DRAMless SATA.
>PSU
Grim.

I have a PC setup with a 1440p monitor, which I also want to use for my gaming consoles, namely a Switch 1

Is there a way to set up the monitor (or Switch, I guess) to NOT fill the whole screen/display, and to instead just have a "windowed" 1080p section of the screen with black bars around it,, as opposed to upscaling the 1080p output of the switch to fill in the whole monitor?

I'm looking through the monitor's manual (a LG 27GP850-B) and I'm not seeing a way to do that, but I'd have assumed this was a basic feature all displays have

How do I properly use gsync, freesync, VRR, etc?

Do I set it as active in game, or in the nvidia control panel or vendor specific bloatware utilities if I'm on a laptop? Should multiple of those have it set to on? Do I also need to have it set on on my display if i'm using an external monitor?

Do I want a framerate cap on or if I do have it on? I think i've read something about you wanting to actually having a cap a few frames below your monitor's refresh rate, for some reason? What if I don't want it at my display's refresh rate to limit CPU temps? Should I change the refresh rate in my OS's settings or the monitor's settings, then, and then have the framerate uncapped in game?

You need to ensure the monitor has vrr setting enabled (+ use dp cable), then nvidia app can be used to manage the gsync for that monitor. Nothing more needs to be done, if nvidia app says gsync is on then it works.

I set max system fps on nvidia control panel 3d settings, I have 240hz monitor and I set it to 300. Idk does it matter, I just dont want apps doing thousands of fps for no reason.

Make sure your monitor has VRR enabled in its onscreen display, then in the Nvidia App or control panel you can just set the global option to enable VRR for that display. Once you start using it there's no real reason to turn it off in any particular app. Set a global cap on framerate so you're not wasting frames regardless. 3-5 frames below your monitor's advertised value.

>>105924205
No it works with either. Modern monitors advertising Freesync or Gsync will work with any GPU brand. If using Nvidia the app will say the monitor is "Gsync compatible".

>Valve hasn't updated Reflex since it was added.
There's nothing to fix; it's not like DLSS where the model gets updated.
It's pacing the CPU load to prevent the GPU's render queue from being clogged; these don't need version updates.
The game encourages you to enable Reflex & G-Sync for the optimal experience.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/418E-7A04-B0DA-9032

NVIDIA and Valve got it right the first time, unlike Anti Lag 1 which got accounts banned.

>>105924647
Different chip architectures have different performance bottlenecks.
NVIDIA GPUs have more lower-level cache compared to Radeon chips in general; they are less reliant on rebar for that reason.

The majority of COD's business comes from consoles, so the game is extremely optimized for consoles with AMD SoCs.
That optimization trickled down to Radeon cards, and they don't put as much effort into GeForce optimizations.
