It involves aqua regia. Sane people use fume hoods. To break even you need to make recovering electronic scrap a full time profession and keep like a warehouse of stripped copper and other recovered metals and watch fluctuations of the market price. Also the actual old components do have some value so you spend a lot of time sorting them and tracking the market prices.

Pewter smelting and lead soldering is also fairly safe with air circulation while your body naturally cycles out lead overtime.
