I use Linux for servers all the time, and have a dual boot of mint and win11 on my gaming PC. The reason I don't use mint daily is because my most played games are hoi3, and league of legends. Neither of which are supported on Linux and I haven't fucked around with wine yet. Apparently league has vanguard which is kernel anticheat and it can't work on Linux

I'm a huge linux fag but I also own a macbook.
The operating system is a bit annoying but the hardware is hands down above and beyond the competition.
I think the best of both worlds would be linux on the arm macbook. I know about asahi linux but unfortunately it seems to significantly impact the battery life which is one of the reasons why I chose the macbook in the first place.
Basically stop being a consoomerist cuck, analyze what you need this machine to do, and buy the machine that best fits your use case.
Linux is very clearly the superior operating system, but when it starts to interfere with my usecase (long battery life) I just use something else (macos)

Yeah pretty much. At the end of the day I can play ps2 games on my macbook on an entire transatlantic flight even if the power outlets aren't working (that's my literal usecase btw)
I'd prefer it ran linux for the odd day when I go down to the library and work from "home" but I can use macos about 80% as efficiently as linux and if I'm only working with a few files vim splits are exactly the same anyways
Like I said just ask yourself "What do I want this machine to do" and then decide what to purchase. You might need to compromise in one area to support another.

macos' bash is actually bash, but their bash is 3.x because of licensing. bash 4.x uses gpl3, so they can't ship it, so the bash that comes with macos is 3.x, which is ancient at this point. i believe they've since switched to zsh as the default, or at least an option, which is mostly bash-compatible
