There used to be a web browser called Galeon for Linux, which took the Mozilla engine and wrapped it in GTK and was a completely independent browser. It also had a fork called Epiphany but that changed to webkit.
That is probably the closest we had to a non Mozilla based browser using Gecko. A similar project was K-Melon for Windows but they switched to the Pale Moon engine.
