I'm on Mint, and I use Lutris to play Diablo 2 Resurrected. The only thing is that every now and then there's a sort of push-pull effect in the game, that is, a noticeable stutter where the fps fluctuates in the 30-60 range, when by default I'm stuck at 144fps (having a 144Hz monitor) in most of the sessions I play (same when I played it on Windows 10). Using mangohud I noticed that this thing happens when I move focus to another window, like the terminal or the browser, and when I return the game starts doing this stutter and I notice that the GPU and CPU usage fluctuates between 30% and 25%. Why is this happening? Does it have something to do with Xorg or the compositor? The strange thing is that the effect remains even if I restart the game, it only disappears when I restart the OS.

Also fuck Mint. I'll stick with Fedora.

if you want a GPU, you could just sell or send back the nvidia card and buy an AMD radeon RX6600 or a newer one

i use RX6600 and it works perfectly on arch
maybe your kernel is not new enough for that nvidia card you use

it used to be a problem for my GPU (the same RX6600) when i used to use mint, the kernel couldn't even update and i couldn't change it back then to a newer one or something

then, i changed to arch and it worked

my advice is, if you're using a linux distro, just use AMD radeon

linux will never be usable if it depends so much on hardware, not a problem on windows BTW

Look, for several years now, because of Nvidia, I've been distro-hopping like a madman, switching from various kernels to open-source drivers, and only recently have I seen a marked improvement with Mint.

>inb4 skill issue
>inb4 use arch

No, even though I know how operating systems work (thanks to my university studies and Silberschatz), I still consider the Linux environment to be immature, despite the enormous and recognizable strides made. The problem is that it would need a little push from the big guys like Nvidia and AMD. Currently, Valve, which isn't very hardware-oriented, is trying to patch up this alternative to Windows...

Changing GPUs for gaming seems like a crazy idea, even though I know AMD is the winner on Linux... But with the GPU of today, my 12GB 3060 is still the best around.

As for Arch, I'm not at all used to PacMan and have been too spoiled by Ubuntu-based builds (partly because of the university). Plus, there's the Desktop Environment issue to consider, with all the submodules and the display server, which I consider a horror, both in terms of Xorg and Wayland—two damn zombies... In any case, I think the problem was a flatpak update (I don't understand why) of the Nvidia drivers... I'll investigate further.

define worknig properly, if it turns off randomly during sleep to save power on a laptop it's working exactly like ti should, besides, how is that related to you being companylocked to AMD because nvidia (best graphics card out there in terms of laptop) simply isnt compatible?

when you click the wifi menu in the status bar on windows 10, i couldn't see the routers most of the times
and there should have been like 10-20 networks around
that UI space would be just blank, sometimes would work, sometimes would not

after a few years i thought that maybe it was a problem with the drivers on windows 10 for these wifi cards

I had similar issues on the 550 proprietary drivers, and now I’m on the proprietary 570.133 drivers and haven’t experienced it yet. I do think it is a driver issue but I honestly don’t know what version it was fixed in.

iirc 555 was the version that Nvidia drivers got good
I used to be on Nvidia (2060, later upgraded to 7900 XT) and 565 was the most stable experience I had on Linux (Fedora 40)

kiddy stricted in my country. Besides, wasn't this video ages ago? has the GNU plus Linux ecosystem not gotten any better since then? Why such slow development in the free world?

Have you tried the Zen kernel or anoyher custom kernel aimed at gaming? also try:

'sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=1' idk what it does but it helps with stuttering in some games for me. Has to be run each boot and can be run at any time, performance gains should be immediate if theyre gonna happen.
